What is some of your dream gear for your studio?
A desk xD I just change my mouse for a track ball because of RSI and really right now I would do anything for a better desk and a better chair 😅
@@cefahprod I remember those things well and still experience them! The simple things are the most important
@@Producelikeapro it is so underrated and yet somehow equally important as some of our beloved plugin our outboard gear. And with technology evolution it is way easier to get ready tools wise for a mix with affordable good plugin than finding a good chair without spending too much.
SPL Iron and a Manley NuMu
Right now it's pretty much everything in this studio 😁
Donnie Darko reference. I love it.
38:35 The lamp on the organ is top. 😇
Marvellous!
Definitely the nerdiest video I've watched in '23.
Wish I had you ears and experience Warren, but really I've no idea what you're talking about: but I love the enthusiasm.
Haha that’s good to hear!
Mike’s been my Sweetwater Sales Engineer since 2014, love working with him.
Thanks ever so much! Yes, Mike Rules!
Optimus Prime and Megatron - MANDATORY equipment in my studio…
Haha great
Man sooooooo cramped but filled with all sort of fun!
Cool studio and tour! Shoutout to Avatar made in Idaho I have a 2- 10 500 watt bass cab @ 4 ohms and it is super check them out!
Mike is one down to earth cool dud, a real gentleman. That looks like a great studio full of goodies and some real gems. Thanks very much, great video
Mike is the best!
Warren your videos are getting better and better 👌👌👌
You’re very kind
Warren's videos have always been the best studio tour videos on CZcams. Immitated but no comparison! I've been watching them and learning abouf different outboard gear for years. Warren is the best studio tour guide - period
Cool studio tour. Look forward to the rough mix.
Great! Stay tuned! Coming soon
What a fantastic studio. Can't wait to hear the mix session from this. Absolutely superb gear choices for a studio humble in size, but no doubt gigantic in quality. Pleased to see 550As getting the love they deserve.
Really enjoyed that guys, thanks.
There are a few more videos from Mikes studio. Great sessions.
Great interview and wonderful studio. Thank you Warren and Mike.
Thanks ever so much David!
cool snow and warm sound - what an excellent combination. Maybe Mike can do a mix in his Studio for Friday for a critique at the academy ??
Haha yes, indeed!
And this is what I love about the api 2448,you can run the automation on the long faders ,and then use the short faders for your monitoring from protools
Exactly! Very well said
Awesome video. I will be watching this one a bunch of times. 'Love all the gear.
Thanks ever so much!
Wow really great gear in this studio.
Yes! Very much so!
WHAT a TREAT THIS WAS!!
Thanks Uriel!
Great studio!! A beautiful place with very good gear! 🙂
Absolutely!
Does Mike moonlight as a therapist?😅 Very calm, quiet guy. Great home studio! Wonderful equipment and layout.
And Warren, PLEASE check out JHS stuff! See if you can visit his place and see his pedal collection. That would be so cool to see you both together!
That would be fantastic! Would love to chat with JHS!
we definitely need a JHS-PLAP collaboration
Great studio!
Thanks Shane! Yes, Mike Rocks!
Absolutely beautiful studio you have there, Mike! I've mentioned in the comments before that Mike is also my rep, though we've never spoken. I'm just happy to know that I've got someone over there that seems like he'd be super easy to talk with, as well as really knowing his stuff, if I need help at any point. Looking forward to hearing the mix from that session! Great video, guys!
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
Yes, we are big fans of Mike!
I use a api 2448 and I bring back my audio from pt using the short fader and the long fader is for automation from pt or use long faders with built in automation on the api ,I wish I could control panning on the board as well.
In this age where people are getting better recordings than many of the records we grew up listening to in home studios entierly in the daw, are Large consols still relevant or are they just Recording Studio Jewlery?
A large format console has its place when recording a huge amount of musicians in a room
Fantastic ! But so much flexibility in such a confined space gives me pause.
Funny, Warren said the Effectron was the high point of that rack, or something to that affect...I own that same Effectron. I do like it for guitar and such as it's fun to tinker with in real time, but it has a very noisy digital floor, being old OTS ICs.
Marvellous!
I like the Effectron and the noise doesn't bother me
What a great collection of stuff! I’m home recording using ProTools with an Onyx Blackbird interface with AKG 414s and C1000s. This isn’t really much preamping is it? (Or is it fairly adequate, and purchasing inexpensive preamps would make very little difference? I do have to turn it up to get a good signal)
Good morning guys.
All of GOD’s blessings to all,
From cables all the way to print.recording is a universe with its own galaxies. Sound travels at the speed of light right. We get to play with that. Sing outside. I promise you that the entire environment will change your sound from your voice. Take a person with you. they are the speakers 😂 they will tell you the difference from time of Day. Weather. Wind. Rain. Sunny day. Perfect day. If all of that happens to have something to do with sound. That’s the deal. Not always the gear. The ear. But I love the gear that helps me make the sound I want you to hear. We’ve been blessed
This video helped a butt ton thanks guys.
Thanks ever so much for sharing that
I would be happy if I could just get what I have working as well as it was 8 years ago.
Aha! I hear you
Love the JHS show! You should check it out Warren. Maybe do a video with him.
Warren you should really consider doing a video with the JHS guys. They are really into production aswell and are just great guys
Would love to! Do you know them?
@@Producelikeapro no, I just follow them on CZcams. Josh is really into the history of guitar and guitar technology. He also likes to bust every myth that the "common" musicians love to believe, just like you do (and he is really ironic and funny). You could really get along pretty well.
@@ferdinandobarisciano6934 that's very cool indeed!
Absolutely cool Warren!
Thanks ever so much Bob!
Check out Black Sheep Audio in Michigan, absolutely lovely tracking room and some great gear!
19:50 On the topic of phase: On mic pairs like snares, overheads, kick drum, guitar cabs, bass cabs, and drum rooms I've been flipping the mics completely out of phase trying to get them as close to null as possible by moving the mics and adjusting the gain. Once I get the mics to null or come super close to it, I flip the phase back around so it's as in phase as possible.
(Sometimes I use phase tricks to get rid of things I don't want rather than just trying to make them sound huge.)
very top
Thanks ever so much Marcelo!
I'm not sure if I missed it, but what convertors is he using? Fabulous video as always ...Thank you!
Good question! Mike? What converters are you using?
32 channels of Lynx AuroraN and 16 channels of Aurora. Such great conversion, and a ton of io in a couple of rackspaces with no fans!
@@CellarDoorRecording Fantastic, I have long considered moving to Lynx Aurora when I ugrade my studio later this year .. I have a Lynx Hilo which I use for capture and I really love the transparency of those convertors.
@@simonfma7273 I wholeheartedly recommend the AuroraN conversion. I made the upgrade a few years back and they've been amazing!
@@CellarDoorRecording Thanks Mike, much appreciated ... Studio sounds fabulous!!
THe intro song always reminds me of Batman and Bewitched lol...
Haha thanks!
19:50 this was clearly shot before the jhs bad monkey video came out hahahah
Oryginal Sontec 432 ; )
Marvellous!
An atmos system
Marvellous!
He got that don’t keep touching all my stuff face on lol 😅
Someone is a Donnie Darko fan…
😆"The most beautiful phrase in the English language," right? I think the name really stuck because of the copious amount of John Vanderslice I was listening to during construction of the studio. His Cellar Door is such a great album
@@CellarDoorRecording
Ooo i didnt think about that one. Deep cuts! Youve got some hot gear there too to round it out!
Apparently so!
@@CellarDoorRecording very nice! Thanks for sharing Mike!
Working at the drive through
Watch me fry another day
Giant orders pending
Endless cars I have to face
Celery carrots and onions
Meripoix
Vinegar cab
bage and sugar
make coleslaw ahh ahh
ahh ahh ahhh ahh ahh
Diary of a fry cook
Work the line everyday
that's all I have so far.
Marvellous!
WOW!!! That's a home studio!
P.s Warren's not a fan of the rat?😢😢😢 😂😂😂😂
Yeah, first time I've heard Warren say anything negative. haha
@@annode 😂I know right. It’s about the rat too! “Strat and a rat don’t leave home without it” has been around forever for a reason 🤘
@@antcall6779 I don't understand. I was just remarking on Warren's unwavering positive nature.
@@annode not only is he always super positive but the time he says he dislikes something it's one of the most famous guitar pedals in history 😂
Haha who knows? I’ve been fortunate to record 100’s of guitarists! Only a Rat once or twice though. Most season players don’t bring one unless it’s asked for.
Sure would have liked to have learned more about the actual studio, in terms of the acoustic design and such, rather than just nerding out over the gear pile.
Am i the only one who experiences an odd vibe between them ?
that pitch black hair color looks so fake.. awesome studio tours tho
