Official music video for "Ooh LA LA" from RTJ4, featuring Greg Nice & DJ Premier.
we shot this video only a few weeks before the pandemic hit with no clue as to what the future held. the fact that we got the chance to do it is damn near miraculous in hindsight.
in conceptualizing the video with our friends Brian and Vanessa Beletic we imagined the world on the day that the age old struggle of class was finally over. a day that humanity, empathy and community were victorious over the forces that would separate us based on arbitrary systems created by man.
this video is a fantasy of waking up on a day that there is no monetary system, no dividing line, no false construct to tell our fellow man that they are less or more than anyone else. not that people are without but that the whole meaning of money has vanished. that we have somehow solved our self created caste system and can now start fresh with love, hope and celebration. its a dream of humanity’s V-DAY… and the party we know would pop off.
love, RTJ
ps: we’d like to thank everyone who busted their ass to make this happen from directors Brian and Vanessa Beletic to line producer Cat Restrepo to editor Biff Butler to the wonderful folks at The Mill who handled post production as well as everyone involved in shooting, prepping and executing this video. you guys gave us so much of your energy and talent during this crazy fucking time to make it all come together and we are truly grateful.

This feels like a classic. Feels like something I heard back in the day.
I know it’s a sample, but…the whole song feels like golden age hip hop.
Run the Jewels in a nutshell.
I just discovered their existence, a couple of songs ago. That one with Dj Shadow, Nobody Speak, then YT has recommended Legend Has It, then this one. They make pretty good stuff, one doesn't expect discovering groups like these in this decade but hey, there's hope after all.
Now if you'll excuse me gentlemen, I've got to check out the rest of their work.
Cheers. :)
@@fL0p That’s the trick, Killer Mike and El-P have been around for sometime, just they only joined together in the last decade.
@fL0p then you go from that one to Close your Eyes with Zack de la Rocha and JU$T with Pharrell and Zack, and then that's it. You're a fan for life. Would love to see them collab with Coast Contra.
Prolly because Greg Nice is the OG us 90s kids all know

I heard this before the S3 finale so naturally I lost it when it came on. It's also used in a luxury car commercial (instrumental) which is amazing, if only those people listened to the lyrics.
Oh. Something to look forward to in season 3! Shit is losing me with season 2
The dance the crowd is doing is just so on point, like thats the kinda dance you could see one guy starting and it just spreads through the crowd
Right!?!? It's the dance of a truly free being
Thank you to Ozark for helping me find this gem 🙏 This song was released in 2020 but resonates 90's hiphop to me💘
I 2nd that
I 3RD THAT....I LOVE WHEN GREG NICE DOES HIS LIL "OOH LA LA AH OUI OUI"....BRINGS ME BACK TO NICE & SMOOTH DAYS....
Heard this on an episode of Superman and Lois. I really thought it was a song from the 90's. This that 🔥
Screw helen
Using rap on ozark was totally out of place and really took away from the show. Absolutely terrible choice by the ozark creators. Used amazing songs but for the wrong reasons and it hurt the show.

Literally all the money will be good for.
RTJ FOREVER!!
El's been brilliantly calling out bullshit since the early 2000s.
He questioned 9/11 on "Accidents Don't Happen" in 2002 and also produced Mr. Lif's 9/11 skepticism song "Home of the Brave" for his Def Jux label that same year, and this was back when almost NOBODY had the balls to say anything about 9/11, not even militant leftist punk bands. Back then, you were treated like a holocaust denier if you didn't wholeheartedly agree that 9/11 was the greatest tragedy in the history of civilization, and criticizing the government's response to the attack or even suggesting that the whole attack was shady would get you labeled "mentally ill," with nearly everybody going along with it. Listening to these songs back then gave me tremendous comfort and made me feel like I wasn't the only one who noticed this stuff.
Then once the US surveillance state had become fully entrenched over the course of the Bush administration, El followed those songs up with the even more explicitly conspiratorial 9/11 song "Run the Numbers" in 2007, plus the video for "Smithereens" off the same album showed him being tortured in a Guantanamo-style interment camp, then in 2011 he wrote "Drones Over Brooklyn" etc. He's always had his fingers on the pulse of what's really going on.

@@brianetchison481 Considering Primo doing the scratches, I wouldn't be surprised if he had something to do with that piano sample as well. That's classic Gangstarr.
Same!
I was thinking the same and googled the song. Came to this, listened for more than the 30s sample I heard on Ozark and was disappointed :p.
I heard this on Ozark had the impression lol
I like the shoutout to odb because the commercial had me thinking it was him with the vocals and the beat.
I never even knew this song existed til today 2023 til i seen a commercial with this hook this is hip-hop why doesn't it say ft killa mike good to see greg nice goat status
I can't understand why RTJ aren't more well known. They never fail to deliver. Not to mention Greg Nice on the hook and DJ Premier on the tables!!!!! This should be in everyone's rotation.
Its because of EL-ps production style. Many purist hip hop heads don't jive well with it. I personally like it but I'm more eccentric.
Cause people don't want to have to think they just want to be entertained. Any artist or group of artists that tries to raise class consciousness is always buried
i think they are more well known in the creative circles, fellow artists and writers tune in to them and end up using their music in their own works
eg. this song was just used in ozarks season 3 final
nobody speak was used as credits music for silicon valley
legend has it was used for black panthers trailer
and many more.
I like it but a lot of people think the production style is played out.
1.2 million views in 4 days feels like pretty well known
'Today, is our beginning.' - Omar Navarro
Ig there were several days between the release of the song and the new season of the ozark, twas a great moment tho.
