  • Great Wall Motor has launched its new motorcycle brand, Souo, aiming to rival Honda's Gold Wing in the luxury touring motorcycle market. The Souo S2000 GL and S2000 ST are designed with features and innovations similar to the Gold Wing Tour, including a cast-aluminum frame, Hossack-style girder fork, and a unique design inspired by Chinese lion artwork.

Your comments about Chinese Quality may be right. But I remember when the first Japanese cars and bikes came on the market in Australia in the early sixties and they were crap. I had an early Honda and the front forks were held on to the frame by sheet metal which tore within six months. Look at Honda now great cars and bikes. As for American cars the last one I had spent more time in the service department than on the road. Got rid of it at 15 k miles and went back to Toyota.

that anti-dive BMW style front end is the only reason I sold my BMW K 12 hundred LT. It makes a heavy motorcycle even heavier if you have the handlebars turned slightly at parking lot speeds and tap the brakes. That only makes the motorcycle harder to manage/harder to hold up.
with a conventional, telescopic fork, when you tap the brakes, that kinetic energy goes into the fork springs, resulting in the front and diving just a little. It’s not noticeable after a while. That energy goes into the fork springs and your fork oil controls the spring rebound…
but with this anti-dive set up that they have on BMW that no one has copied until now, that made my BMW so hard to manage at slow speeds, that I dropped it twice in parking lots. It was… at a bike night gathering I spoke to other BMW riders with the same model I had. We were talking about our machines, and I told them I’m not used to mine yet after owning it for two years because I dropped it twice just using the front brakes in parking lot speeds. They started laughing and said, “get used to it, everybody drops them.”.. and they weren’t kidding because they showed me their bikes, and they all had scuffed rollover bars, and rearview mirrors from dropping their motorcycles..
I have been riding over four decades now. I have had many motorcycles, including heavy ones, three Yamaha ventures, a Honda, GL 1800 Goldwing, a BMW, K 1200 LT. The only one I dropped twice was the BMW with that weird anti-dive front end. In fact, that is the only motorcycle I have dropped over the last 40+ years..
I am surprised that this company came out with an eight cylinder engine. I was surprised when Honda went from a four-cylinder to a six cylinder. The four-cylinder was more than adequate. In fact, I felt that my GL 1800 with its 1800 CC engine was overpowered, and one consequence of all that power is, I was getting mid 30 miles per gallon.
The reason I sold my perfect goldwing , was because of how difficult it was to do maintenance on it. I was a motorcycle mechanic years ago at three different dealerships. I still do all my own maintenance. I thought that it was ridiculous when I was hearing that it takes five hours to change the air cleaner on a GL 1800 Goldwing in the dealers charge over $600 just labor to do that.
but after doing the job myself, I think that $600 is a fair price because that job is not easy. It’s not one big job, it’s about 60 little jobs.
that is the only reason I sold my perfect Goldwing. Everything is buried under plastic and no engine components such as the starter, the stator, Slave cylinder, water pump, clutch, none of those parts of the motorcycle are easy to get at on a Goldwing. And when you’re paying somebody $130 an hour, you can bet that hours of that is going to be just removing plastic to get at some of these parts.
I went from a Venture that I owned for 16 years, to a BMW because I thought I would be making a step up. I didn’t like the BMW especially the front end. I went back to another Venture. Then I had a neighbor selling his GL 1800 Goldwing with only 13 K miles on it. So I bought that.. everything is buried under plastic, so I went back to a venture again, which I have now, my third, Venture. I can get at the starter, the slave cylinder, the stator, The water pump, even the clutch, I could replace on the side of the road using basic tools without removing any plastic..
so this motorcycle has an eight cylinder engine? Interesting. I will definitely check it out, but that bmw front and design scares me.

Just don't get it wet. Every fastner and every cast metal part is sure to be low quality all recycled mystery alloys that won't ever tolerate removal and re install for service and repair. Than all the plastic is thin polyvinyl garbage and just a few weeks of sunshine with will deteriorat like the absolute worst plastic available. Chinese quality is the absolute worst. The bike looks great sitting brand-new however the bike is not on the same level with Japan and other high quality manufacturers around the world.

To the clearly racist Americans here, most top end Chinese cars are designed by Porsche and BMW designers and that means engines and running gear. Oh, I forgot, the US is exceptional and smarter that the Asian and Africans. To the comment of the better bike being the V Twin from Yamaha I have to agree in that I used Goldwing's for 30 years but found the Yamaha Venture V Twin better balanced and very safe on Icy roads.

    • @EventHorizonADP
      @EventHorizonADP Před 3 měsíci

Yeah, that’s what I was wondering. Clearly this is marketed toward an American base, they’re going to have to have dealerships here. I believe the sticker is 28,000. I don’t know how much it’ll be over here or whether or not they will have factories over here to avoid import. It looks incredible. I love it. It should force competition. No that fuels innovation and better pricing.

I’ve had a 4 cylinder Kawasaki, a 4 and 6 cylinder Goldwings and three V-twin bikes. I’m happier with the V-twin than I ever was with the Goldwing. Plenty of power, lighter, better MPG and easier to maintain. An 8 cylinder would be no more than bragging rights, not my thing.

This bike is a big joke “ I can see issues already with the steering head and front fork assembly
and the DCT is not Honda quality ! The problem with flat 8 is vibration problem at the crank -weight “on this engine - which effect will effect the shifting on the DCT when engine torque is engaged. I doubt we will see this bike in the USA

Making a car and making a motorbike are completely different. Reliability, after sales and longevity are important. The switch gear needs to perform after many years in the weather. Comparing it to the goldwing before it’s even released is just fantasy. Another load of Chinese hype all the Chinese vehicle releases had the same hype. Not one has actually delivered the promis.
