Good place to start with
Appreciate your input!!

Thanks a lot... Informative ..
Hi Nicole! Is the exam only in English? Or can it be purchase in Spanish? I was looking into the website, but I don't see language selection.
Hi Ximena! Unfortunately, the exam can only be taken in English. But some good news - since English is not your first language, you can sign up for the in the English as a Second Language (ESL) version. You'll have an additional 20 minutes to complete the exam, and you'll be able to use browser translation software or access an English to Spanish dictionary.
Hey, thanks Nicole! I'll probably never go for the actual certification, but I *do* want to start learning more about data strategy. TBH I'm not sure what data strategy means :D But it sure sounds important. I think it'd be neat to start to learn about good ways of building data dictionaries/catalogues to make data easier for the business to browse. Same with data governance. Like, it would be awesome to learn how to allow the business folks to explore as much data as we can but also hide PII data from them so that no one gets in trouble. We did a demo with a data governance / data dictionary vendor called Informatica at a place I used to work. Do you know a good place to go to learn about these things and all the rest of the parts that go into data strategy?
Hey Eric, thanks for your question and your candor! Certification is definitely not necessary / useful for everyone. Data Strategy spans roughly 14 topic areas - from Data Governance and Data Quality to Architecture and Modeling to Security and Interoperability. You can read more in this article: www.datastrategypros.com/resources/foundations
In the future, I'd like to add more sample documents and real world relevant examples of these principles, like the PII case you describe above. Demos are of course very useful for helping people see the merit of Data Strategy - hopefully it's beneficial even when someone's trying to sell you something 😅
Excellent overview and remains relevant. I appreciate that Nicole and team stay current on their website as well. These videos are great and help me stay focused and answer questions for my teams around how data management is relevant in so many roles within any organization. I am not a great 'test taker' especially in the construct of the 'best possible answer' scenarios because I tend to overthink and look at things from many different perspectives so "best possible" response is subjective to me most of the time. I am following Nicole's study plan so that I can work on my memorization and motivation to take this CDMP exam and continue on to pursue my Master certification.
Thanks for your positive feedback, Amy! You got this!
Hey, thanks! Is there any exams at the end of the course form your side to be prepared for certificate exam?
Hi Dalia! Not at the end of the Study Plan - we offer practice questions separately: www.datastrategypros.com/products/cdmp-exam-questions
Thanks. I have a question, I'm not really a data analyst.. I manage data, do some preliminary analysis, dashboards, consolidation, coding, and automation. Will this certificate be relevant to my work.. meaning will I find it difficult to obtain or use in my line of work?
Hi IMA, I do think this certification could be helpful for you. It's a solid foundation for anyone who works with data. It's not too technical or difficult. You could try some practice questions and see what you think: www.datastrategypros.com/products/cdmp-exam-questions
What about chapters 15 (maturity assessment), 16(data mgmnt org and roles) and 17 (data mgmnt andorg change mgmnt)? Are these chapters not tested?
Correct - not tested on the exam. They may still be interesting to read, particularly for implementation advice.
Hi, please do you also do one-on-one consulting/training/workshops for someone like me who wants to "practicalise" CDMP knowledge?
Yes, we do!! Please check out Career Coaching: www.datastrategypros.com/products/career-coaching
One of our expert coaches can speak to you about your goal of "practicalizing" knowledge gained from studying for the CDMP exam.
This is very useful. I'm a data engineer and I want to advance in my career to become a CDO in the following years. This certificate seems to be a natural step, the more I learn about it. But I still have some questions and I hope you can help me.
What previous real world experience do you recommend to have before studying and taking the exam?
How would you go if you are in a big company doing field work without much strategy or decision making, to really apply the knowledge from CDMP?
Glad that you find this content useful, Gonzalo!! Anyone with any level of experience can take the CDMP Fundamentals Exam. Even if your work does not require Data Management right now, a solid understanding of Data Management principles plus the CDMP credential will prepare you for a top leadership position in technology, such as your ambition to become a CDO. Also note that the CDMP is recognized by potential clients and potential future employers across the commercial and governmental sectors. All in all, studying for the CDMP is a great way to build a deep knowledge of Data Management. Plus, did I mention the test is open book, open notes? This is great, because it more closely simulates real world conditions. Best of luck on your Data Strategy journey!
Hi Nicole,
Thanks for this informative video. I have one quick question. I am PMP certified Project Manager and managing Data project in one of the big Bank. Do you think CDMP exam is useful for me? And how it is useful for me?
Hi Sachin! Thanks for your question - I think this certification would add a lot of value to you!! It teaches great information about how to work with data. It would go hand-in-hand with the PMP by increasing the breadth of your skillset. Best of luck! (And look forward to seeing you in the CDMP Study Group, hopefully!)
The video is from 2021, has anything changed to the CDMP exam?
Hi Amine, you might enjoy this video which is more recent: czcams.com/video/FICmilfBTKM/video.html
Thanks Nicole, what is the cost of this certification?
$311
Is there any online course for CDMP?
Amr, check out the CDMP Study Plan: www.datastrategypros.com/products/cdmp-study-plan or CDMP Study Group: facebook.com/groups/cdmpstudygroup/
Hi, I'm a medical doctor with post graduate Master's in medical education from University of Dundee, UK. I'm looking for benefits of cdmp for me as a healthcare professionals. I do not have any experience yet. I'm unable to get any job in Saudi arabia related to medical education because of no experience as well as saudization. Will cdmp help my career? I need detailed answer on how it can open new patways for my career? Are there healthcare professionals who have done cdmp? Kindly help. My husband is Cybersecurity consultant, currently jobless for 8 months now, we both are hoping to take this exam in 3-4 weeks.
Hi there, I'm sorry it sounds like you and your husband are going through a tough time.
I would say the CDMP is great for anyone looking to develop data-related skills. The CDMP accreditation demonstrates understanding of data management that could open doors to new fields such as clinical informatics, public health data analysis, or roles focused on data quality and privacy.
While it might not immediately translate into a new job, preparing for the CDMP will help you develop valuable, in-demand skills.
I recommend starting by reading our article about the National Data Management Office's Data Standards in Saudi Arabia: www.datastrategypros.com/resources/ksa-data-standards
I encourage you to also check out our blog post on the benefits of the CDMP: www.datastrategypros.com/resources/cdmp-fundamentals-exam
Overall, the CDMP can be an excellent stepping stone. Don't hesitate to join our CDMP Study Groups on LinkedIn (www.linkedin.com/groups/12965811/) and Facebook (facebook.com/groups/346145433213551) to ask any questions you have.
What’s the best approach to learning data management?
Buy every Data Strategy Professionals product 😉
But in all seriousness, investing in a copy of the DMBOK is a good starting point. The Data Governance Chapter is good, as are the three implementation-focused chapters at the end of the book.
Good luck, Yusuf, and thanks for dropping by the channel.
@@datastrategypros Thanks a lot. I really appreciate your response.
Please make a video on "A day in the life of a CDMP".
Great idea!!
Here are some follow up questions I've gotten about this video:
- What type of questions are on the CDMP Fundamentals exam?
The questions are multiple choice, select best answer out of five. There's a sample test bank that you get access to when you purchase the exam from DAMA.
- How does the CDMP compare to technical exams like the AWS Cloud Practitioner certification?
My perspective is that you need both to have a strong foundation in Data Management. The DMBOK (amzn.to/32oK8hH) is light on technical details about the implementation of Data Management systems. If they put these in the book, they'd have to change it every few months! Therefore, you'll need to study the latest tech platforms on your own. AWS is still the market-leading cloud vendor, so pursuing the AWS Cloud Practitioner cert should be considered table stakes if you're looking to deepen your knowledge in this area.
What questions do you have after watching the video? Let me know by posting a comment!
