So glad to see so much good music coming out of the LA music scene that's truly innovative and fresh! So sad we lost so many great and creative musical forces from SF! Thanks KEXP for championing all the independent and better music of many era's.
My favorite band in LA right now is Cat Scan. They don't really have a record out yet, but they're pretty amazing. They do perform a lot in the area though.
Just wish they would've played Perfume. The jam at the end has got to be insane live.

Brilliant stuff! Love those bands where you never know what happens next. The chords on track 2 remind me on 1970s music. 2nd guitarist reminds me on King Gizzard... Great.

It sounds like Wand.
I can see the comparison in terms of a bit of texture but the songwriting is exactly how Corey has always written. A series of verses, almost like old country/folk music or something

Wand is slowly evolving into a beautiful fucking butterfly.
Might sound crazy but i could see a little bit of room for another bassist in there. This guy could do lead bass and someone could cover more low end with a full background of ambience the whole time. Could also be done via keys i guess.
I think the mix is a little flat in this performance. Check out their previous one

That whole solo is E Mixolydian (5th mode of A major) with some embellishments. At 11:08 he's playing in 7th position (Using a B minor pentatonic shape, which works in E Mixolydian/A Major), then he moves up to 9th position and plays in a C# Phyrigian scale shape (which is also a mode of A major).
Essentially, play in A major in 7th position and 9th position, but use E as the root.
Damn I’m psyched someone actually got back to me! Dude shreds. There’s a zine called Sometimes Magazine where he had an interview saying he likes playing Lydian with ragas mixed in. One of my favorite current guitarists/bands for sure.
