Hey, I’m only just looking at getting started with collecting cards. Watched a load of videos on this channel as well as others, but would appreciate if you could let me know how you’ve got on over the course of a year! If you don’t mind me asking, how much have you invested, how large is your collection now, and any recommendations on what to focus on to start with?
Ideally, I’d want to look at this as more of a long term investment (as well as the nostalgia enjoyment!). Happy to spend around £100 a month
Worth noting I’m based in the Uk!
Arceus figure collection box is product of the year imo. Affordable? Check. Pack selection? includes Cosmic and Brilliant, Check. Badass promo? Check. Decent Arceus figure? Check. Hits all the boxes for me.
Plus the chilling will age like fine wine. 5 years from now people will talk about all the different chases you could pull from that one box
Thanks for recapping another end of an era before the year ends, good to see cards and products I might've missed and might want in my collection. Im curious though whered you get your Dawn, Blue, and Red posters, are they official art?
Yes, I got them from the pokemon center online. I think they're still available last I checked

For affordable cards I really think the Gold/Black cards are a sleeper they are super unique a bit hard to pull and are going for $3-$20 depending on the card

awesome video jake. im a big fan if the alt arts you showed especially the $100+ ones. I have an idea for a video. maybe you can open vstar universe and send the pulls to BGS. some of these cards look stunnung in a black label and it could help the portfolio value.
Great list. I was a little surprised that you didn't mention any of the Pokemon Center ETBs. I think they are a guarantee winner. They produce a lot of them... but once they sell out, they don't restock and almost instantly increase in value (sometimes they are greater than msrp even when they are available on the PC website LOL).

Sorry if I just missed this as I was making lunch while watching but I don’t think you mentioned the Arceus V figure box (although you did mention the promo). That is one of the most beautiful sealed/box items I’ve seen from Pokémon in the last 5 years, and I think it’s easily worth the $30-40 market price. Wish I had picked up more than one at retail but I might have to add this to my (small) sealed collection

The vaporeon vivid voltage 3 pack blisters are on PC rite now for 12.99 when they were 27.99 on the secondary market. Im assuming its a small amount of old stock, might be worth getting before there gone!

Two things I like too share. 1. There's a pikachu promo card for sword and shield that shows pikachu and scorbunny starters which is a 25-30 card and it's climbing in value. 2. That promo card that comes in the Precious Edition Box is going to be in Crown Zenith.

Hey Jake do you think it's a better bet to hold onto my Eevee Heroes Gym Box, or sell it for a Pikachu Box and Stamp box?
I'm torn on what has better long term prospects....
Absolutely gutted that i didn't pick up the swallowed up pikachu box, stamp promo box, and gold 25th box when they were all at least under 300... some even under 200. Still wonder if worth to pick these up at these prices. Will likely see a price increase over the coming years along with the kanazawa pikachu and just about every box mentioned on this list especially the Japanese ones. Really regret having to sell my one vmax climax box. Hope to replace it one day. Need to figure out how to setup a proxy address to preorder the Iona box.
I think definitely the Gold secret rare Zacian and Zamazenta cards, they are the sets mascots.💫
I feel like the shining fates blisters and tins are great at MSRP since they have a large variety of hit cards and you are highly likely to get a shiny, which is always worth something. Lots of sets in SWSH have been amazing so you can’t go wrong with a lot of them

The way I see it the Halloween product has two options. 1. They release a follow up for 2023 and the price of 2022 goes up. 2. They decide not to do Halloween Pokémon product next year and the price goes up. Either way. I’d say this is a strong bet for a sealed product for sure. Thoughts?
I’m hoping they don’t reprint the same ones next year.. I bought so many of these on clearance the day after holloween.. paid 2.50$ per bag and got to keep the display haha

Feel like outside of collecting for fun, Pokemon cards aren’t worth as much anymore (outside of the olds ones) Like 8/10 cards are like a $1 or less, and some maybe $5-15, the very small percentage is like over $100. Or is it just me lol
There’s usually 1-2 chase cards in every set some are harder to pull than others it’s normal modern Pokémon within the past 1-2 years will become more expensive when they are out of print and some time passes it’s normal look at the product from 3-4 years ago it’s getting up there in price and we had the same conversation then about modern value you have to be patient
I prefer it this way. I could buy cards individually at a fair price and it can only go up from there

It's both. They can buy things from the pokemon center jp and Amazon jp on your behalf but you also have access to Japan's resale market through yahoo jp and Mercari
Jake, with Ash and Pikachu’s journey coming to an end in the anime. Which Pikachu cards/ cards do you believe will raise in value as Pokémon moves on from Pikachu as the anime mascot?
I would pick the Pikachu (Secret) card from cosmic eclipse. Since that card really showcases the beginning of Ash and pikachu's journey

It’s so nuts to me that the PCB is so expensive. I got mine during preorders using a proxy. They were up for 3 months before PCJPN took it down. They were made to order so how did everyone sleep on them so hard????

Do you think the Pikachu VMAX and Pikachu V will go up in price? I think those are the only 2 cards with both Ash and Pikachu.
The character in the TCG is Red and not Ash, although they are similar. Discontinue content usually hurt collectibles rather than help them since they fall out of the popular mindset. In this case i don' think Ash's retirement will hurt or help these cards
People can still guy the charizard promos and make $20 purchases untill the new year.

Sets always gets reprinted as we saw with vivid voltage and hidden fates, i expect evolving skies and the recent sets that came out will defn get reprinted in the upcoming year or two.
