    A lot of people now don't see what other guitarists saw in Jimmie, because he plays very subtly now. But in his early days he played more of his toolkit, and you can see his actual technical skills are quite prodigious - he just doesn't enjoy flash, that's all. He likes playing old time 50s style.

      Jimmy does more with less , back in the 1970s Jimmy tore it up, he was so cool , well the whole band was cool, love Mike Buck ,, Keith, and Kim , great band , I remember when Kim wore a turban, great look , first time I saw them they opened for Muddy Waters at the original Antone's, loved that band, those first 4 records were great

(I am in a wheelchair now) But back in the day I got to see Keith with the Thunderbirds and later with the Tailgators. Great Bassist and so Cool! Miss those days! well i just have to tell you that this is awesome bcuz back then we didnt have great recording ability to get them on tape....I know them all, and I thank you FOR THESE MEMORIES REVISITED. In the 70's we never videoed nothin, bcuz we had only instamatic cameras. Just a little truth to tell you, I was a part of this crowd. I mean I knew Jimmie, Keith, Frannie and Kim personally and intimately!!! It was obsessively magical every day in those times. Times that have yet to repeat it themselves~ so glad to have been a part of the blues family in Austin from 1972 to now, but mostly from 72 to 79. Lynne AUSTIN, TEXAS ♪♪♪♪

    I saw this'ultimate' line up in Sheffield UK in 1983.My favourite memory of that gig was a fan requesting 'Low Down Woman' Kim Wilson said ''you got it''..and blasted into that cool harmonca intro with JLV hallowed riffage not far behind.
    Their first two albums we're especially great.

When Keith Ferguson wasn’t their ( I heard he died) .. I missed his presence. On the albums Keith’s personality jumped off the cover. This is a great keep sake. I hope more footage of this line up surfaces.

    I was so mesmerized by Jimmie's guitar playing in this video I didn't even notice until halfway through that he has a cast on his left foot and was leaning against a stool to stay upright. I'm just exploring his old live stuff with the T Birds. I've had one of their studio CDs for a long time but it's amazing to see his guitar skills live on video. I had no idea he rocked like this. He sure mellowed out later, especially when he stopped using a pick. But it's plain to see in this early video and others how much he influenced his younger brother Stevie, down to the initial stickers on the guitar, the licks, and clothing. I think some of the way he and Stevie move similarly on stage is just down to being blood brothers.

    my bet this is the most & toughest blues harp heard In Germany, ever - Kim is not my all-time fave but this performance owuld be enough to draw someone in. amazing harp, first two tunes, Kim has got swing, funky phrsing, & can bear down almost indefinitely.
    all in all this is perfect for the homeland of the harmonica.
    German crowd would have heard Magic Dick, Sugar Bllue & some Muddy bands, maybe George Smith way back
    this show is among the very first by Fran Christina at the drums - he joined in London Ontario Canada from down here in Nova Scotia, replacing Mike Buck

    The first time I saw them was at Cooter's on Richmond Ave in Houston, in 1978. I heard the gig was arranged by Billy F. Gibbons, and I had been told by older pickers that Jimmy V was legend from the Catacombs gig where the Chessmen played. Rob Winters went with me. During one song, the club lit up the disco lights and Mike Buck and Keith busted up laughing. Later Stevie played Fitzgeralds and Tbirds played Rockafellers.

    Does "fulltime Lover" remind anyone of another song at all :) ......"Texas Flood" :) I can certainly hear a lot of what Stevie Learnt in Jimmy's playing......SRV is my Idol but, I long had Vinyl Fab T-Brids Albums before I got my first SRV tape. The Fab T-Birds even toured in Australia and played the venue just down the road from me. Unfortunately I was too young to attend The Rum Distillery. I was the only 12-14yo I knew in Australia that was into The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Was in love with Kim's harmonica and Jimmy's playing and the stories the songs told. As a teenage boy coming of age I could certainly relate to "Why Get Up" every Monday morning. You ask my mum she will swear black'n'blue Mondaitis is a REAL disease. LOL. Suffered from it all my life. I just think I enjoy myself a little too much on weekends. Thank you for the Good Times T-birds and for the upload Bluesblaster. Cheers Veni Vidi Vici ;) P.s. This concert is 3 years before SRVs first Album and still my fav.

    • @thosrobert
      @thosrobert Před 9 lety

      "Texas Flood" was first released in 1958. All this T-Bird material is new to me. But I still knew all the lyrics. Every song is a cover or close to a cover of a 1950s song. I know the originals. But it's good listening. I enjoyed the T-Bird interpretations.
      SRV composed little original music. And he ran into copyright problems for putting his name on music that he did not compose. The most obvious example is "Rude Mood." SRV very clearly stole that from Lightnin' Hopkins. "Rude Mood" is just an electrified and faster version of Hopkins song "Sky Hop." SRV finally admitted that it is a Hopkins' song, and he stopped playing it live. But he never paid the Hopkins Estate a single penny for copyright violation. And he didn't remove his name from the credits. To this day, SRV's name is on a song that SRV publicly admitted was composed by Hopkins.
