  • Step by step instructions for a very effective Australian flats fly from the vice of Steve Kirkham.
This shrimp was designed for golden trevally on the flats of North Queensland. It works for various trevally species and is certainly worth trying for other species too both down under and around the world.

charles mc farlane thanks Charles, glad to hear it's useful. I know a lot of people find the EP dubbing loop but tricky.

Nice one Marten.I give the mono on the eyes a little nip with some pliers to flatten it and it makes them easier to tie in.

Dave Raymond thanks for watching. I usually do too actually but I often screw things up as soon as I put the camera on.
      All the best

Amazing fly as always! Any chance you have any more fun GT patterns? Love seeing one every once in awhile!

I make some of my own shrimp eyes. If you dab a drop of hot glue onto the tip of the two monofilament pieces it will be much easier to manipulate.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not sure the fact that they were separate was causing the problem. I always just pick 2 eyes and tie them in, generally without any problems. I think probably I had used slightly too soft/light mono for the eyes.
