Great video! I haven't played this game, myself, but the background put to mind SaGa Frontier 2, and the 2P mode is very inviting. I may pick it up in the future if my partner and I ever finish the game we're currently playing.

I picked this up back in like 2005 when I had nothing else to play and actually got really into it! Never played a Shining game before it. I know this game has some serious flaws but for me it was a hidden gem. I tried Shining Resonance Refrain recently and couldn’t play it for more than 15 minutes before getting bored. I feel if I tried Shining Tears nowadays I’d feel the same way, but back in 2005 it was a different story. One thing you didn’t mention was the music, I thought it was one of the best things about the game, I found it grand and catchy, and some of it I still remember up to this day, especially the battle themes. PS I actually found Elwen the best team member though I liked Ryuna too.
In the original PS2 the game will lag so bad - enemies fill up the screen, the AOE skill executes in slo-mo. The game which was originally already an X-mashing fest becomes unplayable
I remember playing this with my mom. She refunded this so fast it was hilarious. She got Tales of the abyss which was a way better game. I miss playing co-op with my mom.
Wow you went through hell, that last mission was peak BS. Hopefully the next game's more enjoyable for you and hopefully your son doesn't call child services for making him suffer along with you😅
If there's one thing I will give the new shining games after the old ones credit is I do love Tony Taka's artstyle. Sure the guys look way more wimpier than they were in the old games but the girls are easily the highlight. I mean look at Ryuna, she is a smash. D*** i* now I want to go back and relook up Tony Taka's art again but yeah this Game is just as s*** as I heard it was back in the day. I've heard that this game was garbage thanks to X play years ago when they gave it a one out of 5 and it was so garbage that they even went So Far as to do a skit having this go up against Resident Evil 4 and spoiler Resident Evil 4 on The Game cube was seen as like the best thing and was seen as the overall Best Friend You want to hang with while shining tears is that 1 awful terrible terrible terrible experience that no 1 should ever experience. Which is why I feel bad for your son because you had him go through this game with you but the moral of the story is if you have an awful awful awful game then you better bring on a sexy busty holy woman lol. I'm more surprised that there were some positives but thankfully they were pretty small and the majority of the bad things are still terrible and I'm still baffled that this got an anime sequel and also spoiler the anime is not good in fact I'm kind of disappointed that Ryuna was not the main heroine and instead it was the catgirl who was a thief and it was a isekai........sigh. Well now I know that this game is definitely 110% garbage and yeah seeing someone try to mimic the old shining designs I can see why later games went with the generic cute guy, elf and that's it when it came to races....... Until I came across this very good art book of the older games with new designs and holy s*** those are great redesigns. Anyway great job in going through this hell of a boring not good game and I definitely enjoyed your 4 day Mini arc that felt like an anime with your son at the end!

Look Im convinced the og FFVII is still the greatest game ever made. Nostalgia counts in my opinion. Glad you love it!

Man after looking at your spreadsheet I did not play that many PS2 RPGs. Only 16 out of 160 and I only completed 7 of them.
