I had the great pleasure of meeting her in Joliet Illinois the morning after a performance at the Rialto theater. She was even lovelier in person, was so kind to spend time talking with both me and my mother, and even asked my advice on clothing for her return trip to Chicago in July. She was truly remarkable and has been missed all these years. Rest in peace beautiful Annette

I loved her from the first day I saw her. I wanted to be just like her. My hair was stick straight, but I wanted it to be like Annette's. My mom gave me a perm, and I had frizz for months!!! There was only one Annette...💔

Beautiful lady... She was sadly a mess at the end. Guess she just wanted to be done and over with it.

@@patriciacathcart8475 I think I meant at the end not the beautiful Annette we all knew or even close to it. Just dispose of the body and be done with it...

i heard a rumor floating that it was confusion with Anita Bryant... and i will just leave it at that.

I think that the reason she and other young women those days , were all the cast were white it was just that , that there was no diversity . No blacks , no hispanics ,etc., etc ...Of course it was easy to some of them to become America Darlings !! No competition at all . That's why I never had any admiration for her .

southern Playero Nonsense. Absolute nonsense. She was very very popular with a lot of minority kids because she was very Italian, proud of it, and not blonde hair, blue-eyed. This is written about and Disney was very proud of her. Annette would have been a SPECIAL human being if she had been pale blonde, dark-skinned, Mexican or Korean. Who she was INSIDE was why she stood out.

@@MTknitter22 - AMEN! I am Hispanic and I identified with her so she represented a large group of minorities.

Southern Playero, Annette Funicello was a beautiful person, inside and out, but you seem to forget in whose country you are living (if you are in the United States). A quick history-lesson reminder:
Because Whites conquered this land, they became the dominant culture. They also came to be most numerous. That means that for most of its existence, television catered to the dominant majority. That should not surprise you, nor should you expect things to have been different. Catering to the majority makes good business sense. And besides, to the victor belongs the spoils. Stop sulking and accept that fact.
Funicello and the very White era that spawned her are beautiful parts of American culture. Don't allow someone else's bitter resentment about race and diversity to taint your ability to see that beauty.

Shame on you for starting the racist thing. America was mainly white back then. Even when I was in school there was only 1 known hispanic family in my school and then the black schools joined the white schools. I spoke to everyone regardless of color. Don't forget she never started out to be a star. She was in ballet when Disney came in and found her. She loved everyone.
