That Camshaft is TOAST... | Kawasaki KL250 Episode 1

Here's a quick look at my Kawasaki KL250A3 from 1980 which has developed an annoying tapping sound from the top end.
On closer inspection the camshaft is a MESS!

did you rejet carb if so what size jets did you use and do you recall what model mikuni it was

Can't remember the model unfortunately, but I believe it was the original stock carb -- though I seem to remember it being a Keihin not a Mikuni. Didn't rejet it, just cleaned it up and put it back together. Once I got it running it wasn't too eager to rev -- I think there was an air leak in the choke circuit somewhere.

Hi - I found mine on eBay in the UK, but you have to be a bit lucky for one to be for sale at the right time. You can get a new one from CMSNL in Europe (expensive!), or you might have more luck on eBay in the USA perhaps. Hope it helps!

Did you find that the rear shocks are adjustable yet? Turn them up too top notch if needed.

They’re adjustable, but unfortunately were already at max preload…

Yeah absolutely, my point in the video was just noting the condition of the bike really, and musing that the headlights are so dim it hardly matters!
