In Predator lore, the Predators in this movie are called Youngbloods, essentially teenage Predators who are there to hunt Xenomorphs in order to prove themselves. The Aliens are bred there exclusively for this purpose.

If you decide to watch the next AvP film called Requiem, then I recommend watching the extended version and put your TV settings on bright all the way for the dark fighting scenes. You can't see what's going on unless you adjust your brightness settings. Just fyi. -OG

Agree with this post. I bought the DVD back when and really couldn't see a lot of the movie because it was so dark. I would skip this next in line.

These predators are Young Bloods. Basically Yautjas in training (Yautja is the name of their species) trying to earn their places into manhood. So the last one (The Scar Predator) basically was the only one who completed the mission but died after killing the queen Xenomorph with help of Sanaa Lathan's character.
The first one that died is called The Chopper Predator. The second one was Celtic Predator.
Chopper Predator's inexperience got him killed first. Celtic Predator's cockiness and reliance on his brute strength and not his training got him killed second. Scar Predator was the most tactical, cerebral, smartest one of the group. Only mistake was letting his guard down when the facehugger Xenomorph got him when he took his helmet off.

The Xenos (aliens) can "see" by detecting pheromones, sensing vibrations, and the electrical impulses in your body.
Also they use sonar hence the hissing

This movie actually came out on my birthday. Two things kinda kept it from being great, the Pg13 rating and it felt like the director was a bigger Alien fan than Predator fan. The first two Predators died way too soon imo. Being such a fan of the comics I was just let down a bit
I always enjoyed this film, but it should of had more pred/alien fighting scenes and awesome reaction.
Can we not forget that Weyland is also Bishop from Aliens, so he gets to be in both of these great franchises.
He’s the human Bishop same guy that was in Alien 3. In Aliens he’s the robot version.

Harrigan defeated a Predator one on one -surely a Xenomorph could at the very least take out 2, no? These things are supposed to be extremely lethal living weapons, I appreciated that the movie portrayed as such, even as a bigger fan of the Predator character

Idk if someone already commented this but the Predators in this movie are youngbloods (noobs) and they went to the temple to try to complete their training. That's why they were getting killed off so fast. Especially without their shoulder gun.

I watched this movie at a drive in (2004) I know a lot of ppl in modern time see if different but I think they did good crossing the horror monster verse. They focused on the ancient ties to the environment then technology. It will always be the classic "verses" universe

First time watching but not the last we seem to have similar taste in movies and you are a good guy. I'm a movie buff seen just about everything. The AVP and AVP2 are great movies . Wait till you get to latest Predator movie " THE PREDATOR" . The best of them all l am willing to give suggestions of ur ok with that. Please look at American Ultra ( stoner Jason Bourne ) really funny movie.

this was a test for the young predators to become full blooded warriors. so the other older predators in the end didn't intervened. the only one who completed it and became a full blooded warrior without meaning to was Alexa woods so she got an awesome spear.

You should make a video showing how you raise your dogs so other people can see that raising dogs isn't so complicated. Obviously you put in work so it seems easy when you see the results but I bet alot of people would benefit from seeing how you raise your dogs and your routine. It seems like everyone has become anxious in recent years and a well behaved dog can make a huge difference. Too many people think having a big yard means you'll have a fulfilled dog

You know who couldn’t keep up with the Predator running side by side down the corridor? LOL
Its a decent film. I always thought the critism of it was a little excessive. As for it being considered woke. It wasnt a thing back then. Nor would I consider it such now. A woke version would be inserting unneccessary changes for the sake of some groups representation. Having a strong female lead is no issue. Having a black lead is no issue. They had a female lead in the alien films already with Ripley. They had a black lead character in Blade and other strong black characters in other films. I can see why people would say Ripley is a better character in comparison since she handled and figured out how to survive mostly herself. This character mostly had everything explained to her as she went through. She also pretty much survived mostly by luck. She does have good intuition and a tough personality which is nice. She is also included in the comics so its not like her character was self inserted or changed for diversity as they do today. There was no call for it. So nobody cared that she was. It wasnt being forced upon viewers in film after film. Those trying to defend wokism usually dont understand what critics mean by a film being woke these days in the 1st place and make them out to be racist or homophobic or something. So I can see why it would get confusing.
Critics back then would over analyze things to the point a decent film would come across bad or a decent film would be praised as great. The audience for the most part would agree with one side or the other. Some critics today do the same thing but mostly its in favor of the studios and certain programs interests rather than whether or not its actually a good film. Thats why some films today could be rated as great 9.7 out of 10 on rotten tomatos by these hired critics/journalists and the audience scores would be more like 3.7 out of ten. So the ways in which the critics have ruined films with their opinions has changed too.
Like the reactor said it couldve been better but was a decent film. The 1st two predators died pretty quickly. Which is odd when you consider how superior they are to humans even in the fact these were new predator recruits being tested. In my opinion what made this film so bad in comparison to the others is the story and character growth holds it back from showing us the great action and suspence we expect in these films. It drags it out. Having both the predators and the aliens be a threat makes it confusing as to who you should be rooting for or fear. The humans just become a 3rd party which doesnt help our main protagnist any either. Seeing all the cool gadgets and the temple design was cool. Which is why it felt so lack luster that the predators barely were able to use them. Playing the alien vs predator game was more entertaining than the film in my opinion.
I enjoyed the reaction but my suggestion is dont bring up unnecessary topics like wokism where it doesnt belong if you dont truly know what your talking about. If you dont like this advice feel free to ignore it. If not well you can feel free to banter too. I will just ignore it or defend my point of view. Everyone is entitled to speak their opinions. I wont try and cancel you.

Yep, I wish the first two had stuck around longer, but I know they took awhile to get to that point and had to keep it moving, I get it. I can't tell if you watched the extended version or not since it's been so long since I have watched it, but if this was the normal version, try the extended on your downtime, it ties things together better than normal release. For a small point in time I was super into this shit. I still enjoy it just not as into it as I was when I was younger. I very much enjoyed a few books about them though. One was called like... Concrete Jungle or something I think? They were about a lady who was like... fucking adopted into a family or something and went on hunts and shit with them. It was pretty fun to read way back when.

Those of you who have seen Aliens should know who the Weyland guy is...cool shout out in casting from that movie ;)
Also, I think this movie get ignored a lot in terms of both of the franchises. I really like this movie too, but not necessarily because of the supposed "woke" qualities of the movie. This movie came out before all of that business of producing more movies with supposed "woke" attributes. You have to think, there were a lot of movies starring women so it's not like those movies didn't exist. I just think that people weren't necessarily ready for it, one and the fandom especially were super picky about how they wanted this film to reflect certain aspects of both franchises. They weren't happy and also, whether they want to admit it or not, they probably weren't ready for a black female lead. I honestly wished the filmmakers would've capitalized on this more, only because MAYBE? the movie would've had a bigger box office gross. And I don't think Sanaa Lathan really ever respected the franchises and her role in this. I suspect as a supposed serious actress this was just another job and role for sci-fi nerds. Maybe she never really spoke about this role and she never took other sci-fi/action roles as far as I remember but because this wasn't successful by box office standards, it wouldn't have made a difference anyway. All speculation, of course. But regardless, I think it's a great one-off popcorn flick.
This is still my favorite Alien or Predator movie of all time.
