Rest in Peace to him Kelvin Kiptum😢😢
The marathon needs to stop catching up to my half marathon time 😂
Hahahahha saaaame
Yeah for real. I did a half mara in 2:06, can't believe doubling that distance in that time
Humanity has been robbed. RIP Kelvin Kiptum and coach Garvais Hakizimana 😢
R.I.P to Kelvin Kiptum You will be missed, and so young too :(
Godspeed on your next marathon in the world beyond ✊🏃
Stop posting this on each video. You are trying to get likes. You are disgusting.
Why would you copy paste this on 2 videos?
He is a bad man@@Jackson2364.
I had forgotten that Jakob Ingebrigtsen participated as a pacer in the Kipchoge sub 2 project until seeing this video.
Wow I had no idea
All three Ingebrigtsens
This event was the one where I got to know who's who in the running world.
The only pacer that wasn't really there, was (ofc) Bekele, who very likely would not have helped his archrival, and ofc, but it would have been a nice touch to have BOTH of them run the Vienna 1:59 race in full length.
@@barath4545bekele wouldn’t break sub2 ever
I run the Rotterdam Marathon each year since the early 2010s, and it's possible for another WR and maybe even the sub 2 conditions, if the weather conditions are good.
A couple of smaller hills, but nothing too huge, and the corresponding downhills might also help a little. It's actually flatter than London, overall.
I'm signed up to next year's race, so looking forward to hopefully following in his wake 🤞
The fastest marathon courses, Chicago excepted, all seem to be in Western Europe (and London.) The climate’s temperate but on the chilly side & there aren’t a lot of hills. Roads are usually well-maintained.
Kelvin is a superman... absolutely insane

I think kipchoge should pace kiptum in a sub 2 attempt. I feel like his experience would really come in handy to say the least. Not to mention, we know he can run sub 2 pace through 30k. Doing something like that would, in my opinion, put him on a completely new level of GOAT
Not a chance. Rafael Nadal will never be a ball boy for Nole.
There is a level of rivalry in sports. That makes things exciting
@@HaiLeQuang Agreed. And they're not on the same team or sponsor
But if there was a sportsman humble enough to do so, it would be EK
Maybe he can beat it himself, why not?
There is probably 20-30 Unknown athletes who have the ability to run that fast for at least 25km over there. There are just a heap that are unfortunately not given the opportunity to do so because of money and travel. The next 5 years will see an influx of 20-30 year olds being put into the marathon and then becoming similar to watching track races. Bloody exciting!!!
Kiptum past away today.. rip king🏆
Just heard. Absolutely gutted.
We will never know how far beyond anyone else he'd have gone. He would have gone below 2 hour for sure. It's a very sad day. RIP Kelvin Kiptum.
To be honest, at the moment I am more excited to see what Joshua Cheptegei is going to lay down in Valencia for his marathon debut. With his consistent high volume training and dedication, I can see him competing for the world record as well. Eliud definitely set the stage for these younger runners and others to believe sub 2 is possible with the appropriate training. And these guys are for sure taking it to the next level! Watch out when ingebrigtsen takes it to the marathon stage!
kiptum with a close second is what I want to see would be so entertaining any idea where I can watch this race?
@@user-lf9xo4iz5x I would love to know where to watch this too!
@@user-lf9xo4iz5xprobably olympic channel, may require vpn. I watched Boston there.
He even showed them how to do it (with optimal unrealistic conditions but still).
And yeah didn't even catch that Vally 23 full would be Cheppy first full marathon! Damn, that will be SUPER exciting to see!
Also ... post OLY 2028 or 2032, maybe just maybe, we get to see Ingebrigtsen and/or Kipyegon debut on marathon #IWantToBelieve
Big thanks to the channel operator for giving a proper and accurate explanation of why the Ineos Challenge was not a comparable marathon event, and therefore EK has not 'run a sub 2 hour marathon'. He is a truly outstanding athlete, but he hasn't done that. It's a bit brutal how the focus of the stage light has so suddenly switched to KK, who indeed looks the best bet to really run sub 2 hours in a competitive marathon; they just need to tweak the shoes a bit more....
I think Kiptum is just showing we need more younger track athletes to take on the marathon
I think Kiptum is just showing that we need to be giving more younger track athletes EPO. It'll make them so fast!
@@Thaddeus_HoweGo take the EPO and be fast like him.
I mean the marathon can really negatively affect times for shorter track events; completely different training, nutrition etc. It’s not good for younger and younger athletes to run marathons, it’s too much on their bodies
@@Thaddeus_Howe I think its crazy to accuse one athlete over others, doesn’t make much sense to me, if he’s on it, how can you be so sure Kipchoge or the others arent?
@@Wonderkid44 I think they are too, but it is highly likely that the accomplished veterans are doping less aggressively because they stand to face much greater consequences were they to be caught. In other words, it would not surprise me if Kiptum started his taper off of EPO and other hormones (if he even did) much closer to competition that other guys, and was simply taking higher dosages as well.
I don't think we should count Eliud out quite yet. Sure, he's older, and Kiptum's got the record, but Eliud's longevity and perseverance are like no other. I think he still absolutely has potential to break it. I love Kiptum, but I feel like ever since he's been on the scene, Kipchoge's been all but forgotten. Realistically, Kelvin has the best chance, but Kipchoge could absolutely still pull out a 2 hour marathon.
Kipchoge won't pull out sub2 marathon in official conditions, also it's going to be hard for any super talent as Kiptum within any given super shoes.
running negative split in a marathon might be smart strategy, it allows pacers to keep up from a longer time and thus save more energy for the main guy to go at the end. Positive split on the other hand gives shorter distance where you can be paced.
Excelent view!!!
I agree, another point is that it makes those uncertain 30-40km which many athletes are just trying to hold on, an area where you can push and run even faster than your pace from 0-30km
I still find it crazy that they are running so at their limit for such a long time that even running just over one second faster per mile is almost impossible.
Jump as far as you can, measure it, beat it, and then when you can't improve on it, try jumping 1mm more.
@@MTBEAST007100%. In addition to that, saying "1 second per mile faster" is misleading because they are already going so fast, they don't take that many seconds per mile in the first place. In other words, it's not the same vs someone who takes e.g. 9mins/mile; an entirely different universe
@@MTBEAST007what a stupid nonsense comparison.
@@MTBEAST007 That's not really a fair comparison, because I can do that thousands of times until eventually I am almost bound to beat what I thought was my best. They don't have that option with a marathon, hence the huge amount of mileage they clock up in training to try to ensure that when they do compete, it is the best they can possibly be.
@Neofolis it's ok if you dont understand that everyone has a limit where you cant jump 1mm more or run 1s per mile faster. Some people's limits are obviously less than others, whether it comes to something physical or understanding something simple.
Main reason Rotterdam not getting WRs recently is budget. Berlin has much more budget to give to top athletes. Rotterdam is a fast course and with weather conditions favourable it can definitely be a sub2 course
Kavin kiptum's move up another level .the guy is insane.no joke.💪💪💪.it will be hard no doubt. But I think he will achieve it eventually.💪💪💪
Kiptum has the world behind him now I think he can do it as he says if the conditions are right and his body is in order. It’s only a matter of time.
This is so exciting. I have run Chicago and Berlin and took 10 minutes off my PB in Rotterdam. Brilliant course and crowd. If the weather is good it is perfect for setting a fast time.
RIP Kelvin Kiptum
I've run Rotterdam Marathon in 2015 myself. It is that good for a PB!
The pacing LEDs on the track weren't allowed on the track until recently.. now that's allowed, I don't see any reason the vehicle's LED is any different for a marathon

Kiptum will break the 2 hours barrier. Kipchoge is the first that inspired the world that it is humanly possible.
You should make a video covering the Maurten Bicarb System.
I don't see why he couldn't break it. He's so young. Marathon runners tend to peak between 32 - 36 years of age. That means kiptum isn't anywhere close to his peak. And he's only 35 secods away from it now. I mean people were Astonished when Kipchoge ran 2:01:39, but then he later runs 2:01:09. Thats 30 secods. Kiptum will run under 2 hours. It's just a matter of time.
Go go go Kiptum! Indeed NO HUMAN IS LIMITED!!!! Kiptum gonna crush it. All the best our Kenyan hero. We are all behind you!!! 🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪
As a resident of the city of Rotterdam I run our marathon each year. I feel honoured to run the same race as Kelvin Kiptum, and I feel excited he will probably break the course record, and maybe even the world record, or even...
Rest in peace legend!
I’ve been following this channel for over a year now, and it feels like Kelvin Kiptum popped out of the womb fully formed and running. Right up until you started seriously talking about him, I though it would be at least a decade before someone would take kipchoge’s crown.
I think Kipchoge inspired a generation. There are a lot of young people who will attempt to beat his fantastic record. His legacy is making people believe that it is possible to beat the 2 hour barrier.
This kid can break the 2 hour mark at any moment. Kiptum is the real deal!
It's not that Roterdam isn't fast, they just haven't had the money to pay the top guys.
Hope he'll meet Kipchoge at Olympics....at starting line.
I wish someone talked about how the INEOS challenge shoes were a prototype very different to the Next% that got released later: the shoes Kipchoge used had 3 carbon fiber plates stacked on top of each other, and 2 pairs of air pockets sandwiched between the stacks! Those were effectively springs and explain how he looked so fresh by the end, more than other factor, IMO.
C'mon he didn't look fresh because of the shoes. Shoes will improve your performance without a doubt but. You can't take away weeks and months of preparation. The main thing is preparation and talent. Otherwise in 2017 the three men could have broken the two hour barrier.
If that is true then what is preventing the other athletes from wearing the same shoes or even you? Anyway Kipchoge is always fresh at end of every race though old age seems to be catching up with him.
I like how people are so quick to jump to someone as a new GOAT but to me he has to a few majors in a row at below 2:04 and be consistent for me to see him as legit. Right now, I get imposter feels from him for some reason. I wish him the best and hope he cements his performance over actual big marathons against actual competition like Kipchoge did.
Kelvin and Eliud make it look so easy!
No human is limited...all the best Kiptum!!!!
Forget about the records 😔😔 The GOAT 🐐 already clocked 1:59 what we are waiting is Kiptum to do it without INEOS
The rght weather conditions and a pacer who can go to 30k at the right pace and there i an excellent chance he'll break 2 hours, especially as he'll probably have the latest prototype shoes from Nike to give him the best chance. The biggest risk is actually the weather I think - all the people I know who've run Rotterdam say it was windy.
Thoughts & Comments? No pacers, then see what a top athlete can do. I see this "milking for time" pacer idea as just one more way to do what other athletes can't afford to do: hiring help. Yes, I'm old fashioned fan with view back to the Zatopek and Nurmi days.
Completely agree. Just one of the many ways times have come down, and making it impossible to compare an athlete today, to one from a decade ago.
When one factors in hired help, dieticians, improved training regimes, more money so no need to work to feed the family, *shoes*, indoor track materials, pacers, pacer lights, who would know whether the "GOAT" was a runner from 30 years ago or the person who won last week?
On the positive side, continual new records maintain interest in these sports, and are exciting.
Woah bro 600k subs 😮 congrats man you’ll be at 1 mill in no time.
R.I.P. :(
Kiptum can be the Kipchoge of the next decade - if he wants it
From what I've heard the race organisers are even open to the idea to making very small adjustments to the course to optimise for a faster course.
Rotterdam all in all is indeed a very fast course and magic can happen. Last few years running weather in Rotterdam was very solid so he's hoping.
yalls forgetting that kipchoge’s 1:59 also included him wearing an alphafly prototype with 3 carbon plates. not to discount the 🐐 but this is true
We've a big bridge here, long stretch upwards, I'd reckon that's not gonna help getting closer to 2h in Rotterdam.
The guy is gonna be all gas and no brakes until he's broken beyond repair.
Yes I agree is a dangerous approach. In particular could cut him from valuable long terms sponsorhips. But he really wants to use all the power of his young body to write himself in the historical records.
@@jaimeduncan6167 can't blame him, to be honest...

The ultimate passing of the torch would be Kip being his pacer as long as he can and making it happen with a couple other pacers.
I hope he’s getting a good payday since he’s forgoing a huge payday in London to run this race where his agent is responsible for putting the pro field together. It seems like it’s good for his agent and I hope it’s not to his own detriment.
Really enjoy your videos! Keep up the great work and amazing what these guys/gals can do!!!!
It does qualify as an official marathon. But it is not a world record because it has to be a race and a verified course.
Dude this is like the 10th Kelvin Kiptum “2 hour marathon” video, I can barely click on these anymore because it never actually happened
Rotterdam is a really good course. The only reason why the top athletes don't chose it is that reputation takes some time to increase.
It has to do with money.
If lights are allowed on the track why not on the road?
Next time 1h59'51" Kelvin Kiptum the Beast!
I predict a windy day at Rotterdam. I'm going to say KK will take the course record but sadly I feel pessimistic about him beating his own WR.
The course is fully sheltered by appartment buildings, trees and spectators. Crossing the bridge twice, a few hudred metres of cobblestones and two 180 degree turns are the only obstacles. This course generated multiple world records in the past. Is is well possible!
Next challenge after breaking the 2-hour barrier? Beat Kipchoge's time from the INEOS challenge: 1:59:40
I consider myself a fairly decent runner. I did a 39 minute 10k recently which I was stoked about. But to think even at my level I could only be one of the pacer runners for a maximum of 1 kilometre 😅. These guys are freaks to say the least
While we've been focusing on Kipchoge this guy has been making moves in secret. Amazing
I can run the marathon pace for a 400.
Maybe an 800 if I start running training ha
Kelvin should run Vienna (exact same course as Eliud, 10/12/2019), which is ACCURATE.
Vienna's measured route = running route.
PERSONAL distance run was ACCURATE at Vienna.
PERSONAL distance run on any IAAF course is LONGER than the measured length,
and the measured length (on the shortest possible route) is 42m longer than 42195m.
Vienna is accurate. IAAF is a game.

He aint gonna beat it, he's gonna annihilate it
I know it's een weird conspiracy but the NN Rotterdam Marathon is this year sponsored by Asics. Every year there was a big Asics atlete like Bashir Abdi. So maybe Kiptum is moving from Nike to Asics and this announcement is just the beginning. Because i (from The Netherlands) don't understand why he would choose this marathon.
In the Volkskrant there was an article yesterday that mentioned two reasons. Firstly, Kiptum paced the Rotterdam marathon in 2019 and he loved the atmosphere and the course. Secondly, and probably most importantly, Kiptums manager (Marc Corstjens) is the Rotterdam marathon race director so he likely had some influence.
TRP is the goat
Just want to see an all star event - kipchoge, kiptum, Tola etc. If they paced each other for first three quarters, there could be fireworks. Nike, Puma, Adidad etc need to work together to make this happen. The running community craves this!
The key is to be injury free while doing such high volume training ✊
I'm so excited Kiptum is coming to Rotterdam next year. I live really close so I will definitely be watching him smash the course record live from the sidelines! And perhaps if everything comes together on the day, we could witness something very special
I honestly believe he'll do it in valencia on December 3rd

This guy is already a legend ❤
Kiptum’s schedule for 2024: Rotterdam, Paris, Valencia. Back to Chicago in 2025 to break 2 hours.
What about Berlin?
@@evanskandie8475 For 2024, the Olympics are in August. Berlin is in September. Chicago is in October. There is not enough time to recover and get in a full training schedule. Berlin is out and Chicago would be extremely doubtful. Valencia makes sense at the end of 2024.
In 2025, one spring and one fall marathon could be scheduled. He could do the popular London-Chicago combination like Kiptum and Seifan Hassan did in 2023. Or he could do Rotterdam and Berlin in 2025.
AMEN!!!
Valencia 2023 - Cheptegei vs Kiplimo could be it
Get kipchoge and kiptum in the same race on a good course and someone will go under 2:00
4:45 Okokok... I hope you read this TRP... To go UNDER 2h4m you need to dip into the 3 minute mark. You can't be under 4, if your in the 4s 😂.
I think he’ll get it honestly. Especially because Rotterdam is actually quite fast - learned that from this video. Think about it: he was a little sick going into Chicago and he still rocked the WR. If he’s anywhere near fit and healthy, I think sub 2 actually makes sense. Also, he’s winning the Olympics unless Kipchoge pulls out the single greatest performance of his career
Breaking 2hrs. That's not gonna happen at Rotterdam. If he races in Berlin next year yeah it will happen which i doubt coz of Olympics hence we wait till the time he will race either Berlin, london or Chicago. Probably 2025 and at that time in the company of great Jacob Kiplimo.
And what do we think about Cheptegei on his marathon debute in Valencia. Very promising if you ask me.

I have an idea... run a half marathon/full marathon, on the same course at the same time... Obviously the very end of the half would need to be a separate shoot. But dang would this tactic bring out the pacers.

It's honestly so possible but as they say records are set to be brocken so I can't wait to see in 10 years to see how far under 2 we can get
Kipchoge will always be my guy! 🎉
Let’s be real. Berlin isn’t some magical course. It’s fast because it’s kipchoge’s favorite course and he runs fast there. There are only a few sub 2:03 marathons anywhere. Ever.
It's fast. Not only kipchoge we have PB and WR of the marathon goats like Haile, paul tergat, Patrick makau, kipsang, Dennis kimeto, kenenisa Bekele etc. All ran their PB times there. It's fast
@@nichokituku4799under distance
Not to be nitpicky but the distance is 42.195km. That is actually just slightly longer than 26.2 miles. This is important, because if you only run 26.2 miles and then stop, you won’t get any records, because it’s about 0.019 miles short of a marathon!
Heartbreaking to lose Kelvin at such a young age
But this answer the question if a man can ever run a sub -2h marathon…. Kipchoge prove to us that it can regardless if there is pacer… a man has the ability to break it.
For the women’s world record in Berlin this year, didn’t the pacer(s) run all but the last 400m for her? That counts but not Kipchogie’s Breaking 2?
The issue with breaking 2 was the pacers changed in and out around every 5k and there was an electronic controlled pace car with laser guidance
Eliud Kipchoge knew it wasn't going to be an official record
He just wanted to show it was possible
Did you really said Chicago as a candidate for record times? It is not a super flat course.
Rotterdam is probadly a good choice, i dont know the marathon but the many sub 2:04 times are a good indicator especially since it isnt a major - so the top of the top isnt there.
In Berlin or Valencia, maybe the organisation can provide more help through the money and other good athletes competing there, but for a legit 2 hour try you probadly find sponsors (Ineos was very expensive) ...
Also there is the date, in start of April you have good chance for good Weather conditions, and many good athletes might take it as a last Marathon before Paris ... And Paris collides with many of the majors,.
Who gonna tell him?
Lets not sweep Kipchoge under the carpet just yet. Kipchoge has done for marathon running what Tiger Woods has done for golf. Prize Money for the majors has increased significantly since Kipchoge has shone more light on marathon running, and despite what many people think and say, he was the first human being in history to run under 2 hours over the marathon distance. He did not do it to achieve an "official" world record, he did it to prove what is humanely possible. And despite the technical assistance of drafters, and prototype carbon plated shoes at the time, he still had to run the distance and the time, of which he did. "To win, one must first finish"........and on Rotterdam, it can be windy, and if thats the case on the day nobody goes sub 2.
I feel like hes going to destroy the course record here, win the Olympics, and then in Berlin 2025 we will see a sub 2 from him and 3 other athletes race for it and it will be highly regarded as the most legendary marathon of all time.
Kipchoge won't let it happen
Kiptum will destroy kipchoge 😂. All the marathons he ran this year are all slower than kiptums haha. He only wins a race if kiptum isn't in the lineup 😂
records are set to be broken, and some people are made to break them
Kiptum really is Kipchoge 2.0! Imagine being so young and already breaking the world record!!
Running Rotterdam for the first time in 2024, cannot wait
Who’s this Kipchoge guy you speak of and why haven’t you mentioned him before?
Kipchoge as rabbit for Kelvin, lol
Pacers shouldn't be allowed, that's what I think. Being able to pace yourself is part of the game.
