I've had the honor to discuss Pre-Islamic Arabia with Robert Hoyland whose books I enjoyed so much. I'm sorry that the sound quality is not ideal. I would love to visit him in person and record a few more professional videos in documentary format. If you would like to support that, please help me fund the traveling and equipment through the donation links in the description.
Enjoy the conversation and please share your thoughts!

@@generaljg4373 haha! Surah 4:171 says Jesus is allahs word and allahs spirit. How can Jesus be allahs word and spirit but not be Allah? He is god even in the Quran. Surah 9:31 in the Arabic says Allah was mad at people for worshipping their rabbis instead of Allah AND the messiah. So, Allah wants you to worship him AND the messiah. The sahih international version is the honest translation and if you know Arabic, you can read it yourself and see Allah was mad for not worshipping him and Jesus. Muhammad is a false prophet who loved sex and created the perfect heaven full of virgins. The sahih hadith says 70 virgins are from hell. Why is allah allowing things from hell in heaven? Where is allah in this place? Watching people have sex? And a penis that never goes limp. This is God? No. This is the mind of a man who loved sex, who is documented as having sex with all his wives in one day, going to the mosque to pray with sperm stains on his clothes that Aisha had to clean off. This is a prophet of Allah? No. Jesus claimed to be god you’re right. Which is why he was killed. If he was a Muslim as claimed by Islam, why didn’t he know that was shirk? Either he was the worse prophet of Allah ever who committed shirk several times or, it’s because Muhammad just tried to make Jesus a prophet of Islam. That’s what really happened. Jesus says if anyone preaches a message other than his, he is a false prophet. Jesus preached he was gods son, literally his son, that he died on the cross for sins and was raised for the dead. The Quran says Allah has no son. That no one can die for your sins and that Jesus did not die on the cross. So therefore, Muhammad is a false prophet

Islam wasn't an isolated religion. It was born in a culture that allowed for it and many arabs early on accepted it. Sadly people were uneducated and not sceptical. Before Mohammed became big enough to start wars he gained followers by simple technique of manipulation. Many religious leaders and "prophets" before and after him did the same. Check out the birth of mormonism in USA. Objectively speaking when it comes to religion there was no time before covid. Religion was always about selling the myth to gain power. The opium of the masses.

I'm a muslim and I've been watching your videos for quite a while. I was first introduced to you through a Arab muslim youtuber Adam Saleh. At that time, like any other fervent muslim, I thought you were ignorant of Islam and just wanted to get a reaction out of Muslims. And that you were "mocking" Islam without any knowledge of the religion. I didn't know anything about you and I didn't even know you are an ex-muslim. I have to admit, the more I've been watching your videos, the more critical of Islam I have become myself. I am slowly but surely uncovering something about my religion. And you have shown how Islam is viewed through an outsider's lense. Thank you Apostate Prophet, for actually opening my eyes. For making me realize that people who criticise Islam are just normal people and not horrendeous human beings that Muslims portray them to be. And you speak with knowledge and proof to back up what you say. And I admire that about you, regardless of different views.

Muhammad’s own uncle, Umar-Bin-E-Hassham was a staunch Hindu and fervent devotee of Lord Shiva. He was a renowned poet and wrote many verses in praise of Shiva. One of these has survived on page 235 of Sair-Ul-Okul and reads as follows: Kafavomal fikra min ulumin Tab asayru Kaluwan amataul Hawa was Tajakhru We Tajakhayroba udan Kalalwade-E Liboawa Walukayanay jatally, hay Yauma Tab asayru Wa Abalolha ajabu armeeman MAHADEVA Manojail ilamuddin minhum wa sayattaru Wa Sahabi Kay-yam feema-Kamil MINDAY Yauman Wa Yakulum no latabahan foeennak Tawjjaru Massayaray akhalakan hasanan Kullahum Najumum aja- at Summa gabul HINDU WHICH TRANSLATES AS: The man who may spend his life in sin and irreligion or waste it in lechery and wrath If at least he relent and return to righteousness can he be saved? If but once he worship Mahadeva with a pure heart, he will attain the ultimate in spirituality. Oh Lord Shiva exchange my entire life for but a day’s sojourn in India where one attains salvation. But one pilgrimage there secures for one all merit and company of the truly great.

Muslims think they pray towards Kaaba.
As the Earth is a Sphere with a circumference of 41,000km, praying in a straight line to an object would be physically impossible due to line of sight propagation, Geometry and curvature of the Earth, unless you were within 7 km of the object in question.
The author of quran clearly believed the earth was a flat surface and was ignorant to this huge Geometric problem.
Further note, Muslim astronauts taken to the Space Station by the non belivers have an equally big problem when praying to Kaaba as the Earth is moving at 1600 kph, with the Space Station moving at 26000 kph. The quran author did not consider this problem.

The Islamic World, based on some verses in the Qur'an (81:8-9, 16:58-59) There is a discourse that pre-Islamic girls were buried alive.
However, although there is no trace of this in the historical records, it seems impossible that such a practice exists outside of individual events.
Especially in Arab societies, from the past to the present, when we consider the fact that men are married to more than one woman, it is clear that these claims are completely baseless.
If we look at it from a scientific point of view,
It is a determination in terms of social sociology that serious social problems will arise if the ratio of Women / Men in societies deviates above 10%.
According to the common view in the scientific world, the sex ratio at birth is considered to be "100 Girls - 107 Boys".
There are 101 men for every 100 women in the entire world population.
Depending on the definition used, the rate of intersex (intersexual) live births is between 0.1% and 1.7%.
Considering the fact that according to the available scientific data, the number of men in the world is more than the number of women, How can the Prophet allow men to marry 4 women in a society that bury their daughters alive?
The only explanation for such an application is, It may be that the lack of women is eliminated through "Slaves and Concubines", even this does not change the fact that the number of women with whom men will marry officially will be missing by 1/4.
CONCERNING THAT GIRLS ARE NOT BURIED ALIVE...
      81:8-9 -
and when baby girls, buried alive, are asked for what crime they were put to death..
      16:58-59 -
Whenever one of them is given the good news of a baby girl, his face grows gloomy, as he suppresses his rage.
He hides himself from the people because of the bad news he has received.
Should he keep her in disgrace, or bury her ˹alive˺ in the ground? Evil indeed is their judgment!

Animal sacrifices were carried out in honor to Hubal. This later became human sacrifices where a young Mohammed had to witness his younger brother being sacrificed making Mohammed fall out
with his father and led to Mohammed being kicked out of Mecca where he headed north to Medina which was occupied by the Persians.
Once Mohammed crew up to adulthood he was able to raise an army through the Persian forces and attack the Meccans.
When he arrived back in Mecca he destroyed the Kaaba. It is unclear whether Hubals body was destroyed or moved by the locals before Mohammed got there.

The entry to Islam is strictest monotheism which means that there are no partners in divinity of the God, and He has no human incarnations or family members. All theists believe in One Supreme God but Muslims insist that this supreme God has no partners, human incarnations or family members. This is where we draw line and that’s where entry to Islam begins.
The chapter Al Ikhlas is considered to be the value of the one third of Quran although it has only four verses:
      112:1-4
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One,
      Allah, the Eternal Refuge.
He neither begets nor is born,
Nor is there to Him any equivalent."
Apparently any hint towards associating any partners in divinity of Allah are not only against Islam, but take people out of the fold of Islam. There is absolutely no compromise on it.
During the modern day Islam, as revealed finally with the Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him, the Arabs believed in many small gods. They also had idols which they considered were angels and were daughters of God. The word Allah, which means God, existed even before Islam. The Arab polytheist believed that there is a supreme God but they also believed that these idols who were angels were also partners in divinity, and one could reach to god by worshipping them or offering sacrifices to them. There was apparently no compromise on it and Muslims faced persecution for preaching against idolatry and were forced to migrate to Madina. Later on after conquest of Makkah, all these idols were destroyed.
In the verses where Lat and Manat are mentioned are few of the innumerable instances in which Allah encourages us to reflect how illogical polytheism is. Allah says in these verses that you have attributed daughters to God while you prefer sons for yourself, because they can fight and defend the tribe. Isn’t it an illogical thing that you should attribute daughters to God and sons for yourself? In the following verse, Allah makes it evident that all these beliefs are just whims of people who have created based on their imagination, and people believe in them because of their love for their forefathers.
The excerpt from the following link gives the answer:
      Who are Al-Lat, Al-Uzza, Manat and Huba? - Encyclopedia of searchable Islamic Q & A - Islamhelpline
Who are lat uzza manat hubaal
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 53 Surah Najm verses 19-23:
19 Have ye seen Lat and Uzza
20 And another the third (goddess) Manat?
21 What? For you the male sex and for Him the female?
22 Behold such would be indeed a division most unfair!
23 These are nothing but names which ye have devised, ye and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire! Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord!
The names Lat, Uzza, Manat and Hubaal were four amongst the 360+ names and images assigned to the self-invented and false deities, gods and goddesses which were worshipped by the pagans of Arabia at the time of the advent of the Prophet (saws).
These four self-invented and false deities were recognized and honored as the principal idols of pagan Arab idolatry in the days of ignorance in Arabia.
      Ref: Al-Lat
The shrine of the supposed goddess Al-Lat was placed in the city of Taif, and the Arab tribe of Banu Thaqeef were its main devotees.
      Ref: Al-Uzza
The shrine of the supposed goddess Al-Uzza was situated at a place called Hurad in the valley of Nakhlah, which is situated between the cities of Makkah and Taif. The Arab tribe of the Banu Shaibaan, who happened to be the allies of the tribe of Banu Hashim, were its main attendees.
      Ref: Manat
The shrine of the supposed goddess Manat was situated at Qudaid by the Red Sea between the cities of Makkah and Madinah; and the Arab tribes of Khuzaah, Aus, and Khazraj were its principal devotees.
      Ref: Hubaal
Hubaal was apparently the biggest and most honored deity amongst the many gods of pagan Quraish of Makkah
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allahs Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

The culminating rite in a Hindu marriage enjoins upon the bride and groom to go round the sacred fire four times (but misunderstood by many as seven times).

pre-Islamic Arabia might be similar to India or Greece. As polytheism was the general religion throughout the world.

It’s similar to Babylon or Canaan too. You can make a case for the Mesopotamian chief deity Marduk or Anu with the arabian al-lah. Or the Elohim of the Canaanites/Israelites

Pre-Islamic Arabia is something I've wondered about, many times, but not taken the time to look into. In part, I have the excuse that it's hard to find; my halfhearted attempts have quickly come to dead ends. In part, though, I must blame myself; as admitted, the attempts were just halfhearted. Thanks to both AP and Dr. Hoyland for helping me overcome both difficulties!
I'm very happy to learn that more knowledge about pre-Islamic Arabian culture has survived than I thought. Sadly, there still seems to me much less than I had hoped. Hopefully, with time, the region will become more peaceful, and more hospitable to archeologists. I imagine that the entire peninsula is largely unexplored, archeologically.

It seems like if pre islamic Arabia practiced female infanticide that would make it very difficult to have numerous wives and in general it seems like the society would fail for lack of females to sustain the birth rate.

Thats true, because there are arab tribes in yemen ,Iraq ,and south of Iran that has their own history and killing the young girls was never mentioned in that , it seems it was only a thing common in Qureish tribe and probably their sourandings, not the whole semitic tribes

Thanks Ridwan really interesting intelligent chat, as always.
Piecing together a pre-Islamic Arabia helps get a sense of what 'Islam' is .. ?
I'm getting a sense that religiously at least pre-Islamic Arabia was maybe more 'chill' (if primitive with Razzia) than Islam itself.
The mafia style of the Umma formed over time maybe
The traditional Islamic story is heavily redacted and curated?
The first people to destroy Quranic texts were Muslims, Uthman, who wanted to emphasize a particular narrative.
Great chat, I had not come across Robert before, will check his books out.
