I have a sneaking suspicion that they "retired" themselves....Disney is many things, but stupid is not one of them. RDJ has basically printed money for Disney, as Hugh Jackman did for Fox, so they most likely could have stayed for as long as they wanted, but each got the sendoff that they deserved. And imo, each deserves an Oscar for their final portrayal of their most beloved characters.

I remember when the concept of "iron man" came out in 2007 or so...I heard about RDJ getting the role as Tony and I scoffed at it and said "I cant imagine him in the role as compared to the comic book". I took my then 8 yr old to see it and I swear, it was more than amazing. RDJ was tony stark. I was wrong, and I am sooooo glad I was. By the way...my now 19 yr old is now in the Marine Corps in boot camp, and we saw endgame before he left. Our own endgame so to speak. RDJ was amazing, and there will be nobody who can replace him. Someone else can wear the armor, but NEVER cast anyone else to be "TONY".

While the nerd side of me usually hopes that he'll geek out about his role, I'm actually very impressed and grateful of how serious he took his role. He wasn't trying to be a comic book character, he was trying to bring a character to life and it's been an extraordinary decade, so thankful that this man gave me so many wonderful moments of cinematic history with the characters that I love.
