  • Most of the objects in our research collection are insects. But the mammal collection takes up the most space!
How did the objects come to the museum? Where and when did the individuals live? In which scientific studies have the objects already been examined? And have DNA samples perhaps even been taken?
Each of the objects contains knowledge about life on earth, but also about our coexistence as a global community. Knowledge that everyone should be able to access digitally in the future! Current construction work in the museum provides an opportunity to make the skins fit for the future. As part of their relocation, we are checking their condition, photographing them and giving them a new label. Naturally including a QR code, with which we can access all the collected data on the respective object even more quickly.

The earth is changing. Every second. For 4.56 billion years. But this change has been happening too fast lately! This is shown by the speed of species extinction and climate change.
We are making the museum fit for new challenges, also structurally. As a place where one million visitors a year will be able to exchange ideas about the preservation of our natural resources. And as a place where more than 200 scientists are already researching life and the earth. We are catapulting the 30 million objects in our collection into the future - analog and digital. For all of us! So that we can work together on solutions - for nature and the cohesion of society.
