This game is like a homage to both Ultimate Spider-Man and Web of Shadows. Playing as Venom for one level, symbiotes invading New York. The culmination of everything we loved about past Spider-Man games.
One level? Definitely returning in DLC

I love the fake out (at least I think it is) at 2:10 it starts doing that camera slowly getting into its gameplay spot to transition out of the cutscenes thing and makes you think that you will have a boss fight against Venom but Norman interrupts it and you switch over to Venom instead. Absolutely brilliant.

@@brotherjoll1802 Maybe not normally but Venom is one of my favorite characters and my favorite Spidey antagonist so going from "Oh shit here we go this is gonna be tough" to "Wait what? I am playing as him now??" was pretty damn exciting for me.

Bro when I was playing this at first as I was watching I picked up my controller thinking I was gonna fight venom (I was already excited) then it pumped fake n I was like ok what else is gonna happen?? Then getting to PLAY as venom I was so shocked the entire time geeking out

I love how both Harry and Kraven were both brought to that point as a result of their terminal illnesses. They’re both defined by how the reacted when faced with their mortality.
I hadn’t thought of that. Both the villains and the heroes had similarities.
Kraven did everything he could to die how he wanted. Harry was desperate to live no matter what happened.

After Doc Ock, Insomniac's Kraven is my favorite villain of this universe.
This is by far my favorite version of Kraven man, he was a fucking savage and a absolute beast in this game.
Yea ans he really pissed spiderman off to spiderman was wanting him like dead after spiderman beats kraven. Venom whooped kraven then killed him kraven was a great villan but he was no match for spiderman or venom.
They clearly used Kraven's Last Hunt story as inspiration. But regarding character himself they greatly simplified him and actually made they whole "best hunter in the world" meaningless by giving him generic goon army out of nowhere.

I remember people were so sure that Venom was going to be playable and I was one of the ones who was like “that’s not gonna happen” so you can imagine how ecstatic I was when playing this segment.
Its a waste, one mission only, they shouldn't of bothered at all

Venom's growls, roaring, and overall voice is really similar to ultimate venom, which is very nice and nostalgic😊
Glad Im not the only one hearing it. Not to mention his eyes when he holds Kraven by the face are almost the exact shape when Venom holds Peter in one frame.. I distinctly remember studying Ultimate Venoms eyes which very rarely changed shape

I'm like 90% positive that we're going to get DLC where we play as Venom and have to fight Carnage at some point. They set up the Carnage storyline and left it at a perfect cliffhanger for DLC, Bryan Intihar has stated that Insomniac will "wait and listen to see what the fans want" when asked about Venom DLC, and this Venom gameplay is a great starting point for a full-fledged combat and traversal system. I really hope they add more moves for when you grab and pick up an enemy
Probably a dlc, with carnage I guess, venom sound dead in the end, but don't forget about Peter's symbiote that could eventually turn into a venom like (might be an anti hero variant because of Li's powers).
Maybe harry still has symbiote as Peter does when it got free from the it, and could bring him back
I love Osborne's desperation in his voice. You can really tell he's just a man trying to save his family.

This is by far one of, if not the best, representations of venom in any source of Spiderman media. The emotions, the design, the gameplay, the music, and everything in between are absolutely phenomenal.
Is it safe to say best on screen venom? Only alternatives I could think of would be tv shows.
Doesn't it only become venom when it bonds to brock though? Eddie hated Peter/spiderman for losing his job and the symbiote hated them for splitting them up

Apparently one of the insomniac devs said they're interested in making a venom spin-off game
I love how they highlight how different he is from Spider-Man by using the game's mechanics. Things like how he crashes through the vent, catches projectiles instead of dodging, and his absolutely brutal finishers. This mission is probably my favorite
The already established villain getting immediately destroyed by a new bigger villain is a trope that needs to be used more
Even better when you are able to prove that bigger villain's might by playing as them

These games, it’s like Sam Raimi and Sony was like we can make games better than the movies.
even Venom's growls, snarls and roars sound similar. this also reminds me of the last mission with Venom in Ultimate Spiderman where you chased and fought Carnage through Trask Tower. Heck, even got the Back-Breaker move going a few times and fighting Kraven and his goons was like fighting Silver Sable and her goons minus the free-roaming and having a giant hovercraft following and attacking you

I love this mission for so many reasons, the little throwback at 0:05 to the Dr. Octopus boss fight at the end of the first game was nice. and Venom being playable was the last thing I was expecting. One of the best missions in the game.

11:33, this scene is badass. The fact that Insomniac made this Venom resilient to fire just portrait how powerful he is.
My jaw dropped when the camera adjusted to third person on Venom. It was actually so goddamn fun. I only wish we could play him on free roam too, since they seem to have built a full moveset for him, with abilities, finishers, leaping. Obviously he doesn’t have swinging mechanics and his skills/moveset isn’t as in depth as the Spideys, but maybe in a dlc he could be expanded upon a bit? Hell, I’ll even take a generic horde mode where we can just rampage for the heck of it

There's a very, very good chance that we're going to get a Venom DLC with Carnage being the antagonist. I'm curious if we'll get to play as Venom and team up with/switch between him and Spider-Man, because that would be pretty sweet.

That and Peter boss fight.
Miles getting the final proper Venom boss fight was the only part I found “conflicting”.
It’s probably because his electric and invisibility powers gave him a better chance than peter
they nailed the Venom gameplay, he feels like a force of nature and unstoppable juggernaut... he is the one foe Spiderman can't defeat on his own, he is twice as strong and just as fast and agile, and he can easily traverse obstacles and climb buildings which makes Spiderman's swinging around and crawling on walls useless against him
I hate you had to hit each guard over and over with the same combo, he feels massive but it like that’s it. Hits like a normal human when he punches them. In the video he did a hammer fist up in the air and slammed down with spikes coming out and the guard that got hit by it just stumbled backwards in the hall.
Spiderman can't defeat venom alone? Watch the animated show from the 90s dude fights and stops him alone in the amazing spiderman 300 he stops venom drops him from a building before the fantastic 4 bag him up

Don't forget that Peter's spider sense also doesn't work against Venom, so Venom is one of the few villains who's consistently able to get the drop on Spider-Man

1:02 I feel bad for Harry in this moment since he is scared of dying and he sees the symbiote his only way to live.
So in a sense he attacks Peter out of fear, desperation, and anger since he thinks Peter is betraying him and allowing him to die.

When Kraven cuts of Venom's tounge, you can see the tounge still move throughout the fight. That is such attention to detail. Anyone remember The Ultimate Spiderman game? Comic book style and you could play as Venom. This is epic.

I know Harry is Venoms host but once he grabbed Spider-Man and threw him I know it was personal for the symbiote since it was Peter who rejected him

0:05 I love the detail of him looking at the destroyed antenna where he fought Doc Ock. He almost let what happened to Otto happen to himself, and he knows it. My only issue is that I was hoping for this parallel to be fleshed out waaaay more, and to have a much more devastating impact on Peter. I mean, this is a guy that, in the first game, almost couldn’t conceive that a good man like Otto could be hiding so much darkness. I was expecting the full realization of HIS OWN darkness to hit him much harder, instead he’s just fine and back to his usual self a minute after Miles freed him.

@@theBRANDOProductions In other media it's not really in their nature. The Klyntar symbiotes are honorable, peace seeking entities. Originally it was assumed the Klyntar were the only symbiotes, but they were retconned into being only a part of Knull's (creator of the symbiotes) army that rebelled against him and formed the Klyntar "race" to help planets by turning noble hosts into heroes. The only reason Venom turned evil was because he was corrupted by Peter "abandoning" him and Eddie Brock's hatred and need for vengeance. Klyntar symbiotes are inherently good but volatile and easily corruptible.

Goddamn, this little 20 min. segment makes me want a more fleshed out Venom gameplay with his own upgrade tree, plus fucking CARNAGE!
Thats so sick that you get to play as Venom! And they did him so perfectly. From his appearance and size to his attacks and just shear epicness. I was super sceptical when I heard they werent going to be using Eddie Brock but Harry Osborns story was so good for it.

You know you are really fucked when Venom walks in fire like it's literally nothing.
Harry earlier in the game says that he cant feel the heat from the factory when they went to save Tombstone.
In this game they buffed Venom as fire is doing nothing to him. Only Martin Li and people who got influenced by his power can hurt Venom besides Sound.
This whole level was so fun, my dad watched me play it and it was a blast the whole way through.
I wish I could experience this moment for the first time again.

The Dualsense controller enhances this so much. The really crunchy munching sounds out of the controller were so satisfying

Insomniac obviously took inspiration from Ultimate Spider-man in both story and gameplay for Venom, even his roars and moveset are similar to his USM counterpart. Just pity it wasn't Eddie Brock, even though he exists in this Spider-man universe...
They also used the same spine snapping move in this game

When the camera panned behind him in my play through I audibly was like "no fucking way" and this whole sequence was incredible. They really need to release an arena mode because Venom plays too well for a one off mission

damn playing as venom on PS2's ultimate spiderman was such a blast....I'm so happy they made venom kinda playable again in a spiderman game I hope venom will be an actual full playable chracter someday

@@ImLiam12everything is a lie. Story, traversal, characters, balancing, goes to insomniac. Prototype just has more destructive and free gameplay because of the type of game it is.
Web of shadows a game with a similar system to prototype is better

Prototype was originally meant to be a Web of Shadows sequel where you played as venom so this is great to see
This reminds me of Venom gameplay from Ultimate Spider-Man and never feel old. Technically this game is a combination of Ultimate Spider-Man and Web of Shadow. Ultimate Spider-Man for Venom gameplay and Web of Shadow for boss and event.
I have never wanted an M rated Venom spin off more than I do right now.

The graphics in this game are amazing. The level of detail and work on reflections are so amazing that it's a bit off-putting when we see peter interact with less developed/detailed (visually) secondary characters. Venom is particularly beautiful for the lighting.
Man was kraven such a great villian. I love spiderman but havent read comics or anything so didnt really know who kraven was but dude was top tier.
Playing as Venom looks really dope. I don't agree with the writers making it Harry though that's pretty weird
Yeah, like you see why Harry does it, but Eddie Brock has been the source to spider-man his hatred of peter and the spider-man is why he works so well. I get insomniac didn't want to just do the whole trying to fit Eddie into the story for him to be the real venom. but at the same time we need to see that rivalry again, the comics have made a great job evolving that to be a friendship with Eddie now being an anti-hero but in other media we still need a worthy adaption of that rivalry something that insomniac and Sony are not doing by either making venom already a hero or not eddie brock.
@@andrewleyton6689Well, ultimately, it just wouldn't fit. Peter, Eddie, who does exist, just wouldn't really work, they are neither not in the positions to create a situation like we've seen before. Unlike Harry, who in the game actually has pretty good reason for this to happen, and a connection to Peter.
