    That Garmin G1000 is a piece of kit you would normally see in an airliner.Brilliant stuff.

    Shot an ILS23 at KVDF to mims about a month ago. My Mooney has old Steam gauges with HSI and old Century 41 AP. This IMC Wx is rare in FL, so no way I’m letting AP do this one; I want the credit. I was able to see the rwy right a mim.

    Wish you would talk more about the flight and let us know what is going on during your flight so we understand what is happening, because those of us that are not pilots are completely lost during this flight.

    • @scottfranco1962
      @scottfranco1962 Před rokem +4

      Most of it is sort of a "call-response". The pilot is saying what he is doing, and what he is going to do, such as "leaving 4000 for 5000", meaning at 5000 feet, headed for 5000 ft and will level off there. The controller is saying "descend and maintain 4000, expect runway 10", meaning go down to 4000, and expect the runway 10 approach. You can usually divide the flight into 3 phases, the departure is either a lot of vectors (fly this heading, at this altitude) or a standard departure (published). The enroute usually consists of flying to a waypoint direct these days, because its not necessary to fly airways with GPS. In the old days it was "join the victor airway xxx". Finally the arrival is, again, lots of vectors or a standard arrival, followed by a "clear for approach xxx" when the controller has you aimed at the final approach course.
      The system is designed around possible loss of radios completely. You have a complete description of the flight before you take off, and if you flew that, you would get there with no radios if necessary. The controllers have your route of flight and would make way for you if required.

    I do not understand: how can you know when you are on Base Leg? How can you know when to turn to Final, without viz? (not yet a pilot)

    Gotta hate when that happens, they give you a way point yo fly to and it’s not in your flight plan. That happen to me on my arrival into KCLT. Nice video….

      @@tommytpilot when they do get you on the list, look me up. I’m on it and signed off on the NG. I would loved to share an IFR/IMC flight with you. Right now I’m flying with another guy on the list, but he’s only VFR rated for now.

      Best way to handle is to do what the pilot deciding to go into HXD does later in the video. "Give us a minute while we program it in." Or it's cousin, "can you give us a heading until we program it in."

    • @scottfranco1962
      @scottfranco1962 Před rokem

      @@jakemarx5955 "DA-40 request delay vector while we set this up" or "DA-40 can we get a vector". Regardless, they are going to give you a vector to the waypoint.

    I dont see L/R on the ignition. Where is the mag check completed on this plane if there is one?

    • @tommytpilot
      @tommytpilot  Před rokem +1

      Hey, Hwkrs. It has a diesel engine, burning jet fuel. The ignition happens via compression, so no magnetos needed.
