    A petition needs to be started for Jeff to cover Altitudes. Since I started listening to Jeff, on earlier albums in Nevermore, you could hear the Cacophony influences all over the place. He's also a Marty Friedman fan. A dream come true is to watch Friedman and Loomis (doing Jason's parts) live one day, covering both Cacophony albums.

      Ok forget the "get better" thing. All I'm saying is when he wrote this song he could not play it. He was a stunning guitarist then but everybody plays differently and maybe some parts of Perpetual Burn needed the use of techniques at that point found difficult by him, or even techniques not yet invented. Idk, I'm not attacking him in any way believe me.

    what impresses me the most is these huuuge position changes, sometimes from way near the headstock to some solo in the "lowest" (position wise, not note wise) region of the fretboard and on top of all that with PERFECT transition. And on top of that he starts on the new position with some insane arpeggio and goes on from there. If I heard it without video, I'd swear it would be a punch in take. Only players know how difficult it is to do this stuff so flawlessly. Rarely have I seen a guy with such mastery of control and I have seen all them shredders. Not many can walk besides Jeff with this kinda stuff.

      It's worth noting that 16-17 year old kid composed this. Mike Varney didn't provide resources to spend lots of time in the studio so Jason was in and out of the studio borrowing a drummer from his other band venture Cacophony. Plus Jason was in high school and recorded it over summer break. Jeff played this song hundreds of times probably before he recorded it. I transcribed this using Marty Friedman Type arpeggios with out doing huge stretches .I wish i Filmed it .I still have it all written down .I read the Power Tab ,and used the Exotic Guitar Video by Friedman to figure it out .I was not as livid as the awesome technique displayed here .Especially in the solo section Jeff really kills it .He is an extreme player."Perpetual Burn" Is a modern guitar Caprice as cool as anything Paganini would do .If Paganini had 6 strings he would do this !

      Håvard Jacobsen Yep! Malmsteen was an innovator, brilliant in the early to mid 1980's, great when he hit the scene but overtaken a long time ago by better players. Jeff Loomis is one of those players.

    • @flameguitarcody
      @flameguitarcody Před 10 lety +24

      lol Jeff is a fantastic player but he isn't better than Malmsteen not even on the same level really although he is way up there. this song is in no way shape or form even near Yngwies more difficult songs.you may like jeffs sound and style more but from a technical standpoint Yngwie is a far better musician. There are very very few people who can play as fast and still be tightly coordinated while still at the same time being clean. there are people like Loomis who can do most everything well then there are people like Rusty Cooley who have the speed of a god but not many have been able to do it all at the same time.
