A maple box to keep the maple building blocks I made for my kids. I went overboard and decided to make this here video about it.
The box joints were made with this jig by John Heisz - www.ibuildit.ca/Sales/sales-9....
The veneer on the lid was was diamond matched which is to say it was double bookmatched. That's all I've got to say about this one.

Enjoy this video? Fantastic! Do me a favour and follow me on Instagram - @dpmakestuff. I do giveaways and you get to see what I'm working on every day. Thank you!
I have seen hundreds of box making videos but this my favourite so far. Using tape to cover the inside of the box when glueing up was smart
Thanks very much!
omg the ending. my OCD has never been pleased this well in a long time
Nailed the sizing
He didn't remove the pencil mark at the handle so my OCD is spiking
That is the nicest box to hold scrap wood that I have ever seen. The danish oil really made that lid pop. Nice video as usually.
i don't think it is scrap wood...
I know.
That resaw & double bookmatch technique... brilliant!
Awesome double bookmatch idea! Project turned out great, as always
Colour me impressed! A double book-matched top. That is genius!
Wow, really really nice box! That book matched lid is beautiful! Great job Dustin!
Dustin, love your work! That box top is awesome!
pleasing our OCD like a boss, thank you
Wow, that is a super nice box joint box!!
I like the way you made the lid. the book matching really sets it off.
Hi Dustin! :D
Sweet box and that's a neat resaw / bookmatch method!
Love the technique on the lid! Beautiful finish, this was well put together
Nice!! Love the hardware you put on it and the book-matching was very cool!
That ending...omg man, so satisfying, incredible craftsmanship!
That's one good looking box joint box!!
Awesome technique on cutting the veneer for the top. Thanks for sharing.
A simple project but finished with excellence - as always! I made John's box joint jig too, love it!
Thanks!
New subscriber, and I have to say what I like best about watching you work is what I *don't* see: No pocket screws, no brad nails, no screws unless they are required. Top notch work.
Thank you and welcome! Appreciate it!
Very cool way to make the top. Kept thinking you were doing a veneer but then you'd cut it off! Good stuff.
that was absolutely fantastic. well done!
Not only is the stuff you make cool, but the way you make it is awesome! Nice work man.
That maple is beautiful. Sweet looking box!
Thanks Sean!
beautiful grain in the Lid, thanks for the video
Very nicely done Dustin!
Nice little box Dustin it's got me thinking about making one cheers Aaron
Very nice, you make it seem so simple.
nicely done, i like the slick move not to joint the top where the sliding lid goes. i gotta build one of those box joint jigs
Looks great!
nice work! every time I see a new project of yours it inspires me to get in the shop. the double matchbook lid is a beautiful touch.
That's what I like to hear! Thank you!
Beautiful work. Congratulations
Great stuff. Keep up the good work. I'm thinking I'm going to have to build one of johns box joint jigs.
Great job, Dustin! Dad-made toys and boxes for the win! When we have kids I'm definitely getting in on that. Thanks for sharing!
It's a good excuse to build some really fun things!

This is the best box for wood I ever seen!
2:11 is exactly what I needed to know. Thanks Dustin!

Brillante trabajo, felicidades gracias por compartir.
Love the craftsmenship and the video techniques.
Appreciate it! Thanks!
Perfect, clean and professional :)
Very cool box! I want to learn to do the same
That box looks great and I really like the idea of using thick backerboard to make the veneer of the maple board and then sawing it off at the end.
Now I really need to build that bandsaw! :-P
Wow, Dustin, nice box of kindling... :-) Seriously, that is one FULL box of blocks!
1/16" wiggle room! Thanks Art!
i thougzt its for joints.. :( but also a great video, good job!

Great Build Dustin, Well Done.
Hope you and your Family have a Merry Christmas and New Year.
Barry (ENG)
Thanks Barry! Same to you!
Beautifully done. I might just have to give John's box-joint jig a try. Matthias' is a little daunting.
Some of the most complete plans I've ever seen! Highly recommend it! Thank you
Jenga box! nice ... This inspires me to do the same for my Dominoes set, get them outta that cheap tin box.
i just shake my head watching. very impressive.
Thanks!
Dude you are ridiculous, and I love it.......... What a great bookmatched top.
Thanks!
4:12 Genius!! Totally using that one too

Thanks!
Muito bom show essa madeira é linda !Abraão
Nice!!!!!!
Awesome box. Love the bookmatched top, and the satisfying fit of the blocks. End grain work surface? Maybe you should make a camera battery that lasts forever for your next video. ;)
Is there a video on the sled you use?
Excellent...
Cheers...
I'm still trying to figure out where you could put the secret compartment ;) lol
Love what you do, keep it up!
good job
Thanks!
What are all those little sticks that stored in that box fooorrrr???
Good box to keep the jenga
c'est toi le meilleur!
Put all those sticks away? Yeah, rigghhttt...... Side bar: who in the world with give Dustin a thumbs down for any of his projects?!?
haha thanks! Yeah i realize this is the one and only time those blocks will ever be 100% put away... but I can dream!! I like to come up with an excuse for those who thumbs down my videos. Today's excuse is they're mad I didnt show how to make the wooden blocks.
Absolutely "well done". Thanks.
What locks the slidded lid in? Like why doesn't it just slide out when you turn it?
Beautiful box. I have not successfully put groovesvin a box joined box yet. Maybe I should try thicker wood.
It took some knuckle scratching to make sure the grooves weren't visible on the outside, but it came out nicely! Thanks!
Dustin Penner I usually use thinner wood so that's my problem. Usually break something
Sehr schön👍
Came out great, did you see the video with John and Matthias comparing their box-joint-jigs? I think John's comes out a little bit better. Once I get a better table saw, that'll be one of my first projects! Anyway, that box turned out beautifully, nice work! 🤓👍🏼
Thanks buddy! John's makes more sense to me!
Yo DP! love your stuff man. im a dominoes man and would love to see you make sturdy wooden dominoes with brass spinner in middle, with storing case.
Gabriel Garcia Jr had to look it up! What's the spinner for?
Dustin Penner the spinner is to protect the dominoe from scratching when you mix them up (wash the dominoes). it slides on the brass spinner on the table rather than the wood.
How beautiful ~~~
Thanks very much!
