I played this awesome track over and over the day I proposed to my wife 10 years ago. I proposed to her out at dinner that night. The best decision I ever made. We have two beautiful sons now. 🙂
Have it on original 12" - no record player! Anyone frequent Boxes in Exeter late 79/80? Thank you Rob, Chris, Froggy and of course the living legend obbie Vincent now back on JazzFM.....
The TIGHTEST band ever.... Saw them at Jazz Cafe in early 90s and got all my War vinyl records signed... Would love to see them put their differences aside and jam again together....
my mind fucked up when the great Gilles Petterson played it in Worldwide festival last Summer, earring this on a massive sound system in front of the sea was definitely one of my best time of the year. Anyway thanks for uploading and peace from france!
@akinsankofa from 1978 untill 1989 I used to get all my jazz/funk/soul records from the Top Ten record shop in Selly Oak, it was the only shop we knew were the staff were really into Jazz/funk/soul. All the U.S imports were available upon asking. You could go in have a coffee and chat whilst listening to the new stuff that week, Brilliant! Needless to say I have this on U.S 12" Import, bought it whilst they were over here on the 'World is a Ghetto' tour with 'Blood Sweat and Tears' both Awesome!
Yet another killer version of this classic, and one I've never heard up until now. Sunday afternoon, window open, and I'm clicking the replay...Thanks for uploading:) TUNE!!!
I remember when this was released and LOVED it. I never knew til now it was called a "special disco mix". Really dont consider this true disco. This just plain ROCKS. Love it love it love it. Such a pleasant groove :-)
Simply one of the best tunes ever heard ( discovered on "loft classics' rare CD rendition by Dave Mancuso) Sylvestest Agurs : I don't know what's the best version between this one and George's ("In Flight" LP) : the arrangements are epic-classious by War but George, to me, did his best solo ever on his version. Theses 2 tracks are a part of disco-jazz-funk anthology and even of all kinds of music
THE WORLD IS A GHETTO úžasný disco mix TOP 10 hit americkej latino funk rockovej skupiny WAR, ktorej autormi boli členovia skupiny.Cover verziu skladby nahrala na album Another Time Another Place dvojica Matt Bianco.
@thefourthfunkateer I used to live on the Handsworth side of Birmingham at that time - I wish I'd known about that shop at the time - your import 12" would be a real collector's item now.
As far as I remember, it was Carl Cox who dropped this in his set, not GP. Nevertheless, this was also one of my highlights of the year! And: early bird tickets for WF13 copped!
This is the REAL War aka The Lowrider Band, the original artists who made this song famous. There is a FAKE War now touring under the War name but are nothing but a tribute band with just 1 OG member. How did this happen? Because they were stripped of the name they made famous by "music producer" Jerry Goldstein who manages the poser band and is raking in the bucks the War name brings. Harold Brown, Howard Scott, Lee Oskar and B.B. Dickerson, The Lowrider Band, are the REAL War.

This was huge in the very early 80's in the London funk and boogie clubs.
Still gets played today.
Unfortunately I was way too young these days.
A classic, remember dancing to this in 1980. Great days.
Have it on original 12" - no record player! Anyone frequent Boxes in Exeter late 79/80? Thank you Rob, Chris, Froggy and of course the living legend obbie Vincent now back on JazzFM.....

Does anybody know what the relationship is between this song and 'Nights over Egypt'?!
Lily Bloch NO ! ! ! but please enlighten me, i love the story behind the story of dance music.
They're both in a minor key...?
same bpm?
Really?
Beats the original version hands down.
Do you still have it on tumblr? I can't seem to find it anywhere! Would really appreciate the mp3! :)
