All in all a great time, took a few baths, fishing was off(next time use live worms). Thanks Mike. The Allagash is a great adventure, one of our favorites. We're aiming at the boundary waters this year up in Minnesota which could be a good one. Will have to see how it pans out though, the pandemic has made things a lot busier in local areas as people can't travel internationally. We might not get permits . We'll think of something if all goes pear shaped.

The water levels were said to be very low during our voyage and we still made it through. If there’s not many folk out there the multi group camp sites are spacious and nice. Well I'm looking forward to another Thulborn road trip. The last one was good. I'd suggest doing practice runs and multiple takes for the onscreen presentations and being savage with the editors cutting knife so the film runs snappier but there is huge potential to Mr Thulborns Excursions. Also the fact your not flourishing all the expensive toys and running with minimalist gear is great, quite refreshing.

    • @craigtsadventures7414
      @craigtsadventures7414 Před 5 lety

      I just completed another 4 day road trip. I have currently edited 2 days worth of footage so far. This trip I set out to find an old piston that a you tuber I follow buried along side the Murray river 15 years ago. I am fairly confident this video should flow a little better. I am much more happier with the opener for this next video as I talk less and involve my little dogs and cover highlights of the trip and add some upbeat music in the background with shots of our local waterfall. This time I have added bits of music throughout the video which I still haven’t mastered yet but with more practice can only improve. I think my camera work has improved although I still had to mix it up with iPhone and camera which comes out in video however still comes out ok but not as crystal clear as your vids. My camera is a cheap Nikon b700 and I cannot add a microphone to it any were, It does a good job but I eventually want to Purchase a Sony camera, with a better sensor.
      Next question! I only have a 12 volt socket in the Ute and I had trouble keeping everything charged “ fridge, camera, phone” . I shot in 4K so the camera kept going flat quickly. What did you guys use to keep your electrical equipment charged along this series.
      Thanks guys! Much appreciate the feedback you guys give as you guys are ace when It comes to editing.

    • @ForemanAndWilmsAdventures
      @ForemanAndWilmsAdventures  Před 5 lety

      craig thulborn we use iPhone footage and none of our cameras are super expensive. Using tripods and carefully planning and framing shots can fool folk into thinking your running with expensive equipment. Shaky footage and badly executed shots scream cheap and low budget. Colour correction in post production adds yet another element of professionalism. A worthy microphone is essential, we went too long without one. For the Allagash we had no access to power so we lashed out $500 on a goal zero inverter. It weighs the same as a car battery but kept the drone and all cameras going for 2 weeks remote travel. For car camping we plug in an inverter to the 12 volt socket that provides AC power. About $50 at your local auto parts store. We use a power board so can charge multiple camera batteries. Then of course spare batteries. At least 3 for each camera and same for the drone. With the editing telling the story with what footage you have is the hardest part, and you have to be viscous. If it doesn’t help tell the story, cut it out. Looking forward to your film, take your time and craft it with love.

    • @ForemanAndWilmsAdventures
      @ForemanAndWilmsAdventures  Před 3 lety

      Greetings Jeanette, we’re pleased you enjoyed the Allagash, it’s one of our favourites. We don’t have any films on camera gear or tricks, we’ve gone back and forth on the subject for fear of giving too much away. We don’t use any high end stuff, more mid range gear. The quality of cameras nowadays is so good one doesn’t need to sell a kidney to get great shots. Most of it comes down to imaginative ways of using what you have and allocating the extra time to put in the work. The gopro’s handle all the underwater stuff, we have a suction cup for under the canoe(One needs a safety string attached or you could lose your camera) and a clamp for in the canoe attached to a tripod for a little extra elevation. There’s a couple of dslr’s equipped with some 2nd hand prime lenses from eBay and a Canon XA30 is the main workhorse with a rode microphone pointing forwards. Time is the big factor. We’d do a 7 day trip in 10 or more days for filming, nature watching and not being pressured to be home by a certain date.

  • @MangoPopper
    @MangoPopper Před 3 lety

    Enjoyed the series! And excellent production. Out of curiosity, in some shots I see you both paddling as we're viewing from the drone passing overhead. How does that work? Can you tell the drone to zoom by, and then you set down the controller and paddle? Or was there another boat along with someone who controlled the drone? In any case, both your personalities added a lot to the feel of the video. Thanks!

    • @ForemanAndWilmsAdventures
      @ForemanAndWilmsAdventures  Před 3 lety +1

      The drones are quite advanced bits of machinery. It connects up to the smartphone so you can see what the camera sees. One function is tap and fly where you select a place on the screen and the drone flies towards it such as a place onshore passing over us. The other is tracking a subject such as us paddling and orbiting as it does so. Your evaluation on how it works in your comment is correct. These functions are a little risky and I prefer to not trust the automated flight modes though in the canoe I have no choice. In the vehicle I'll put Wilms in the drivers seat and pilot from the passenger side. Glad you liked the films. Thanks.

    • @ForemanAndWilmsAdventures
      @ForemanAndWilmsAdventures  Před 3 lety +1

      It is fancy editing, I can't quite remember the exact recipe. The background is a time lapse of the storm, the trees I think come from photographs like the tent was, shot at night at the correct angle and focal length and the rain drops on the camera lens were manufactured. Then all the individual elements get colour corrected in an attempt for them to blend as if they belong there. The composite was put together in adobe after effects which is a great program to transform imagination onto the screen and create shots impossible to get in the field..

      I was under strict orders from the Boss that the scene in question be censored or removed. It was the best I could do.

      I might need one or two of the old timers when I attempt the engine and gearbox on that ancient wagon. I googled the Allagash Abductions and can't say we encountered anything like aliens. I understand that back in the 60's and 70's there was a very popular recreational pharmaceutical product called 'Acid'. I think a drop or two of that could bring on an abduction by aliens, flying pink pigs and even talking pillars of flame. Having said all that I'm a believer in Alien life considering how large the universe is and how many other solar systems there are, the chances of us being alone in my mind is slim.
