      @er7 The muppets was a good show. As someone that's driven pretty much every version of a LC since the late 70s, and done so in Africa, the Prado does not share the heritage of the Land Cruiser in the true sense of the name. The new Prado, although sharing frame architecture with other Toyota platforms, in the same way that the new Tacoma shares the architecture with the new Tundra, does not make it worthy of the LC name. Unfortunately this now also applies to the shameful excuse that is the LC300. After all these years, the last remaining Land Cruiser is the 70 series, still sold in certain markets. For everything else, the Land Cruiser name is being used as a marketing scheme by Toyota, at great harm to the heritage of that name plate.
      Obviously, we don't have to agree on this.

Outlasted both an 08 Pathfinder and 05 Sorento that I also ran during that time.

There's already two Broncos in my family and they've been pretty solid which is why I am interested in getting one of my own but I am not a brand loyalty type of person and these Toyotas certainly piqued my interest.
      Custom ordering from Ford is better than buying off the lot as neither Bronco in my family cost more than MSRP or paid any dealer fees, just sales tax and tag. I am not seeing the massive gains in mpg based on all these upcoming 4cylinder engines. My 2020 ram 1500 from 4 years ago gets over 25mpgs highway (diesel) and that is a V6 3L (I can get 26mpg or 27mpg in the real world on highway with offroad tires and a lift). That is also with a rooftop tent above the bed. The smaller Land Cruiser can't beat that with a 4cylinder 2.4L and 25mpg is probably like perfect conditions. Real world, highway, for the Land Cruiser (stock) is going to be closer to 22mpg, I am guessing. After you add wheels, lift, and tires, the highway mpg is going to be below 20. That doesn't include adding tents, and gear, etc.

      @@keith9388 how can you compare a diesel to a gas car? 25 mpg for a SUV that size is EXCELLENT with 465 ft lbs of tq. Problem with diesel is that they require expensive/complicated emissions related systems to keep them running clean. I'm sure you know about the 2 billion dollar fine for Cummins diesel defeat devices from OEM. Also the engine you speak of has huge reliability issues. The main bearing oil holes are too small and get clogged up by diesel soot and die a premature death. Everything has its tradeoffs. I think we can expect extreme reliability from Toyota and the NiMH battery under the rear seat is designed to be replaced easily for not a lot of money. They have been testing these hybrid systems for almost 2 decades now.

    My question is what is the "duty cycle" of the new land cruiser?
    I was fortunate enough to own and enjoy a 1997 80 series Land Cruiser for 14 years. I sold it in 2021 and bought a 2021 4Runner TRD Offroad Premium. My understanding is that Toyota designed the 80 series to have a duty cycle (or life expectancy) of 25 years. Mine was 24 years old when I sent it off to an enthusiastic new owner and was in great condition for it's age with zero mechanical issues. It will be interesting to see how well the '24 Land Cruiser holds up. My sense is that it won't approach the 80's duty cycle. How is your 80 holding up ? I'm glad to see it on your channel from time to time ;

    I think the best one is the middle trim and no options except maybe moonroof. That puts it at $63Kish. Gets you all the off-road mechanical features. It gets you the middle sound system and upgraded infotainment screens. And versus the GX 550... well the Land Cruiser is significantly more fuel efficient 23MPG combined vs 17 MPG of the GX 550. You're saving roughly $6K up front and then $700ish each year. You get the 2400W inverter for camping too. Personally I think both models together you can basically pick exactly how fancy or efficient you want. Personally I do not need, or even want, the "Convenience package" features in my off-road vehicle. The price of the First Edition literally doesn't matter. Its a limited run and basically if you didn't already reserve a spot with a dealer you won't get it for MSRP anyway.

      @@chaarleess honestly 200 was way overpriced for its time. 86 g's in 2021 was incredibly insane but these days it's really not that bad considering the Sequoia TRD Pro is 80 grand.

    The customers have been clamoring for a barebones, no frills offroader on which they can bolt on aftermarket accessories. Toyota delivered it. Albeit at a price $10k too expensive. The GX Overtrail wins hands down.

    Seems like the only Land Cruiser they really sell is the 1958… otherwise you just buy the GX. Funny, they only give you 3 colors to force you to go to the higher trim. If the base was offered in the same colors they wouldn’t sell the higher trim at all.
    Just wait for somebody to trade in a 1958 when they upgrade to the Gx. Buy that one.

    FIRST OF ALL, what happened to the nice tweed fabric seats we saw in the pre-production 1958 Tommy did a first look video on? That is a bummer! I kind of like some things about it but overall I'm sort of disappointed by it. The smaller engine ( I don't understand why they didn't put the GX 550 engine in it) and the 8 inches of ground clearance are pretty uninspiring (Subaru's have more than that). These things, and the price, make me want to wait to see what they do with the new 4Runner. I suppose that parts for a Lexus will cost more, as will insurance and registration...so I guess there is that argument, but most people spending that kind of money are probably a little indifferent on that at that point.

    If its $69K, basically, for a Land Cruiser + Convenience package then the upcoming Tacoma TRD Pro is going to cost at least $65K. Which would make it $10K more than the Ranger Raptor and $15K more than a ZR2. I'm anxious to see everyone's reaction.

    This makes the Lexus GX Premium+ look like the way to go for 90% of people. Most buyers don't need the rear locker and the GX has pretty much everything else except the 2400w inverter.
    Mileage isn't great on the GX. But if you're spending $70k on a vehicle like this, you can probably afford the extra $500 a year in gas.

    Still happy w/what we bought for our upcoming Pan-American hwy trip. I just listened to ofc Dad 😂. Went to Spec one & aside from the fugly headlights. I prefer the middle LC trim. Both Basic boring & "upper"(but not really just as boring Basic)the 1st edition are just way to Blah. I think the price is still competitive too. Even on that 1st 😂 Hits Way WAY lower then a lot of Plastic how does Tommy put it? Play School Lego Plastic ....Jeeps which is ironic bc he never says it about Jeep-talking Barbies 1st Wrangler 😂 but I digress. And way less then a lot of other US trucks TFL has featured the AEVs, F450/550s etc & those aren't even their "expensive" trucks! So yeah I priced the mid level at $74k not bad imo. That ZR2 Chevy not even the GMC was More! Maybe not much more, but still more. Is it for the crowd who wants a 1961 price point? No, but they're not buying any new vehicles anyhow. Hate to be harsh, but that's the reality.

    Spec'd a Land Cruiser trim to how I liked and was just over 68k, at that point I'd much rather have the v6 tt, with similar options and accessories, and nicer interior by Lexus for 2k more.
