  • Posting this one in response to a number of requests on how to pitch this method from scratch. Quick video on an alternate pitch method for the X-Mid Pro 2 that is similar to how the Zpacks Duplex is pitched that keeps the vestibule and functional doors... I actually think this is going to be my main way of pitching the tent I like it so much.

    I can't believe how many videos I had to wade through of the skinny pitch to find the ONLY one that shows the whole pitch rather than starting from the full pitch... if I could fit the whole pitch to begin with, why would I bother with the skinny??? Thank you for ending my search 😅

    Great Video. The more I play with my X-Mid 2P Pro the more I learn new ways to pitch and manage this excellent tent. Dan Durston can still further improve this tent by adding more robust guy-line attachments (Top of trekking pole) points and also offer the X-Mid Pro in heavier DCF weights like ZPacks does for the Duplex.

    I thank you for demonstrating that. So far, I have had no situation where this technique would be either needed, nor an advantage. But, the very next site may make me glad to know about this?
    About guy lines - it would certainly make sense from both a geometrical aspect, and structural strength point of view if the guy lines were in line with the ridge, and straight out from each other. I haven’t done a stress test to evaluate deflection of the trekking poles subject to various side loads, with guy lines at various angles. Experience with other structures, and common sense suggests the tests would confirm my suspicions. Do a vector diagram; you’ll see.

      @PeakExplorerMatt Před 14 dny

      I think with favorable forecasts it may be ok (and I will definitely be using) his method. In pending forecasts where there may be inclement weather overnight, I absolutely agree that you should pitch inline with the ridge.

  • @jedsmith4988
    @jedsmith4988 Před 4 měsíci +1

    These setup videos are appreciated, but I'd rather see it try to be pitched in a "real" situation, like near tree line in the mountains, an open meadow filled with willows and rocks... My SMD Skyscape Trekker is tricky enough and has a smaller outside footprint, though the same requirement for nearly exact outside geometry is the same.

    • @KrizAkoni
      @KrizAkoni  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Definitely worth doing - will try and do more of that in the future. I do have a brief shot of a pitch with a tree in the vestibule at 6:43 in this video czcams.com/video/n65_vLqir04/video.htmlsi=xSuHKIHEx3H_yrhH

    Thank you for this video! I was excited about the xmid pro 2 until I saw one in person and was shocked at the size of its Footprint, which had me second guessing this tent. But your video now has me thinking about the Pro 2 again, with this alternate pitch being an option. It looks like the doors are a bit loose with this pitch and might be a little flappy in winds....do you find that to be true?

    • @KrizAkoni
      @KrizAkoni  Před rokem +1

      The doors are a little loose and probably not the best config for a storm. Otherwise, I find it works well.

    @MeMe-cd1wy Před rokem +1

    In what situations would this smaller pitch be used if the guylines come out to beyond where the original pitch would go? It appears to have same or larger footprint. Just wondering.

    • @KrizAkoni
      @KrizAkoni  Před rokem +1

      Many sites where I camp have a few large trees around really nice flat undersized clear spots. This lets you either tie off direct to the tree or run a line down next to it when the vestibule interferes with the tree. Just imagine a normal pitch with a tree standing in the large vestibule corner. This technique constrains your required ground space to mimic the duplex and set up in that spot.
