I am a student in one of the top iits (i won't disclose the name for personal reasons).....in our college most of the CS students are placed at High paying salaries but the catch is that only 25% of those jobs are related to CS...rest 75% jobs are related to management or of some other field. The reality is that majority ppl are not interested in the subject and they only chase high salaries..... even ppl from mechanical and electrical branch learn coding on their own and are placed in top MNCs
And the marks also matters for placement rounds too

In new IITs, majority of jobs during placement are in CS field. Even management or non core are not present enough for non CSE students. Hence many remains unplaced even after getting degree from IIT

I don't think CS degree is useless ever. You learn a lot and you use those ideas a lot. A CS degree is not to make you a developer, rather it is to make you understand the core logic behind computer science. Personally I have learned a lot through my CS degree. Even though I don't use my learnings everyday, I learned the basics concepts of every subjects which made my fundamentals strong. And I don't think courses are outdated. These courses just introduce you to the basics which are important to learn the core concepts. And I think we use these concepts all of the time but we just dont relate to it. For example you learn about multi threading, paging, memory management, databases, payloads, tcp, udp, databases, etc in CS Core courses which is equally important to sofware engineers. So please don't think that doing CS degree is useless.
Completely agree on that. CS != coding. Its much more. Coding is just a way to tell machine what you want to do. Computer science is much more. It is more of study of how computation happens. and as you said Saurav, CS core concepts are very much used in day to day work. One more thing, software engineer just dont create apps / website. Backend software engineer work on very tough problems, and sometimes even write patents / research-paper in their job.
TBH, I dont like when computer science is shown like a fashion-show. Seen ads of coding-classes (want to get into FAANG drama).
Also, there is a reason why people go on to do Ph.D in computer science, why research papers are written in the field, its not that simple.
And for God, professor dont teach outdated syllabus. To all Indian students, please give respect to your teachers always!
But a cs degree is more focused on theory and not the practical implementation atleast here in India. You can get the same knowledge from an online course. There are so many people who have built their skills by learning from online courses, youtube or bootcamps. My college didn't help me at all with building my skills. I only go to college to write exams and nothing else. I'm preparing by myself and I've also joined a bootcamp that will help me get a job.
@@hemanagandla6195 So this is a misconception that CS degree will make you a job ready person. CS is more about theory. Not everyone wants to be a software engineer. Some wants to pursue AI or Cybersecurity or big data or devops or any other related field or some wants to even become a professor. So covering all aspect is not possible right? And if you want to learn only software engineering, there are tons and tons of bootcamps. You can do that. But CS is not only software engineering. If you feel like you are not being job ready after pursuing CS then you have not researched well before taking a CS and this is a major problem of all.

Being in reality, I only have to self-study all academic subjects, even when wasting time in monotonous lectures, for the sake of attendance, while also studying come coding, to maybe get even one unpaid internship to be grateful for, not, while just being able to complete 80% of syllabus, which still does not help in securing a decent GPA.
What's the point of degree after all, when I can just sit at home and learn all these, or maybe attend courses related to CS, while wasting time going and coming college, for nothing, but just some criteria called attendance.

What people don't tell about the education in US is, out of 100 companies that come to campus, less than 10% sponsor for visas or take international students. For some countries it is difficult to get a greencard and get more jobs. Many jobs require citizenship due to security reasons. Also, there are consultancies in US who market people's resume with fake experience, do fraudulent activities in H1Bs. Hopefully these things get fixed and help genuine people.

Hi harnoor I am a grade 11th student precisely I came in 11th 5 days ago and I am very scared and terrified I am expecting around 85 or 86 percent in board examinations and want to go abroad after 12th somehow I managed to gather courage and started doing coding courses and participating in extra curricular activities to build portfolio but still I am very extremely terrified that 10th marks will break my dream and wanted to ask that is the percentage good for getting admission in the best colleges in the world maybe somewhere like us Canada aur aus

If you DO NOT have good hold on core Computer Science subjects, you CAN NOT design good systems, and the world is not solely about Application engineers only, but also low-level programmers and researchers.
The way you said you don't use networks and OS, shows a preety immature of you, you will realize soon when youwill reach the higher levels of engineering.
It's pretty crazy how much networking concepts help in debugging a data transfer failure.

Only one thing to say WTF. I am from an elite school and work in a fortune 200 as chief architect and makes close to 4crs. If you say a kid who did computer science will make 4cr is BS. Do not pick outliers to say CS grads makes that much. Stop creating such false hope. At google level 7-8 at makes that much money (500K) per year. You get stock (RSU) but will be vested after 4 years how can you consider that as a salary as there is so much unknown. if you get 100K bonus who provides the assurance that you will get even 50%. Show me an offer whose base salary is even close to 250K without outliers. Stop this nonsense to create false hope. Do not consider someone consulting for $180 per hour as there is no asassurance that it will continue for years.
