Catholics always look grumpy at church!

  • If you attend Mass at nearly any Catholic parish, you'll probably notice that most of the people aren't smiling much. Why is that? Does it mean that they don't believe in Jesus, or that they don't have the joy of Christ in their hearts? Fr. Scott Bailey reflects on why the Catholic Mass lends itself to interior prayer and why that does not mean that people aren't joyful in the Lord.

I like that...."....the joy that abides." I'll carry that with me today. Thank you, Fr. Scott.

Love to attend the mass when it is so serious, solemn & quiet!
Get distracted when people kept talking or whispering.
Joyful heart transpired not just by our smiles but through our eyes as well!

Due to certain circumstances I watch Daily Mass on tv. Personally I find it very relaxing and like a certain order to it. Thanks Fr. Scott! ✝ I'll be watching tomorrow early evening!

Not me but the people around me look grumpy. The joy that feels me is not hidden. Sing alleluia- that produces a smile and joyful heart. Let us rejoice in the Lord always! Deo gratias!

Solemn. Not grumpy. Want to feel high? Go Baptist.

We need to have more discipline and respect for others by saving your conversations for when we're outside of the church. There are those who would like to pray, in quiet, before and after mass.

The Mass is the unbloody representation of the SACRIFICE of Christ on Calvary. Your Last Supper emphasis is Protestant. And if you want to hug people go to a cocktail party.

The Mass is absolutely the unbloody sacrifice of Christ on the cross. But the Church also sees it as a participation in the Last Supper and it is completely appropriate to emphasize the Last Supper when discussing the Mass because of the narration surrounding the consecration (anaphora and institution narrative). We never disconnect the offering of Christ's body and blood at the Last Supper from the crucifixion. That is emphasized in Catechism paragraphs 610-611, 1329-1341, and 1366.
