The Yamaha YZ125 two-stroke is one of the most popular bikes on the market and it's resale price continues to hold its value. Yamaha is the only major Japanese manufacturer still producing two-stroke dirt bikes and they renovated this bike last year, making for an all-new 2022 Yamaha YZ125. The frame is the same, but the subframe, bodywork, and engine have been updated, which means that aftermarket has to update their products as well. This Pro Circuit-built 2023 Yamaha YZ125 is the new version of Pro Circuit's "Race Spec" engine and suspension for this bike, and we were the lucky ones who were able to test it.
In this video, MXA's Josh Mosiman and test rider, Ezra Lewis, talk about what it's like to ride the YZ125 and go into detail about the parts used on it. This bike comes with Pro Circuit suspension and link arm, Pro Circuit Works Pipe, Ti-2 Kevlar R304 Shorty silencer, Pro Circuit port and polish to the cylinder and head, Pro Circuit RV piston, GET ignition box, Pro Circuit ignition cover, Dunlop tires, Twin Air filter and more.

Pro Circuit has always catered to pros and national level amateurs. not a knock. just thinking back to my days in the 90s, and if you just swapped out a pipe, the pro circuit was the best for high rpms, but bills and fmf widened things for the majority of ppl at the weekend track. yet pro circuit had the riders and the glam, so ppl would run pro circuit and actually nerf their lap times. ah well. all part of being a fan! 🤩

@@EarthSurferUSA You do realise the pipes and silencers of two strokes in specific is generic of what the factories used, they implement that data, you are essentially riding what 22 rode when he was on his Yamaha yz 250. The only pipe and silencers that is different is Roczens one of stinger end, and RV’s spec pipe and in a way it is the simpliest changes you would never thought of.

one of the best mods i did for my 2022 , was changing from the factory 13/49 sprocket set up , to a 14/48 . you lose some of that low end corner issue because you can rev less but have more push rather than that need to over rev in order to get the momentum , and you gain 10% more top end ( per a sprocket calculator , its noticeable though ) . serves both ranges well . my bike is very similarly built , minus the custom suspension valving , and ported head .

living on the east coast (upstate NY), I'm always so bummed when I see MXA test bikes at Glen Helen. It's so depressing. Everything looks dead, and I can't tell the track from the rest of the surroundings. Not today! There was actually green on the ground! shrubs of some kind? (alas, no grass). anyway, just had to say something as it was the first time I noticed any green at all at GH! 😄
I loved my CR 125 in the mid 90s. 125 2-strokes are crazy fun (even if too little bike for my 200 lbs). So light, even compared to 250 2-strokes. but my gawd! the clutch work. only bike I ever fried the clutch on was RM 125 at Southwick. ah. the salad days. Loving your vids. gonna have to sub the mag just to support the youtube content. Thanks guys!

I rode a yz125 rolling chassis with a stock dt200 engine (17hp rwhp) and it was amazing how much fun I had. With their respective owners who were vet riders it was as fast as a 2000 cr125 but so easy to ride and non tiring. I could ride all day if possible. They were the only 2 strokes on the track but of course 250f's with younger riders flew over them.

@@EarthSurferUSA The DT200 we have here in Brazil is a very detuned street version that has 25hp at the crank. My personal DT200 was a stock frame with modified engine it has 45hp at the crank and 38 at the rear tire but its impossible to ride mx so I use it for flattrack. It would be interesting to try fitting my engine to that bike because that YZ was magic with the SSS suspension. My personal mx bike is a Suzuki RMX250 which rides like a cadilac compared to a yz and is also very week in hp compared to modern 125. Bear in mind as I mentioned elsewhere that the riders/owners are vet so no real conditioning is expected. When I rode the bike I went much slower than them because I don't like to go fast on someoneelse's bike.

If i was the head of FIM i would bring back 2 strokes lower budgets and bring back the real privateers that have been squeezed out. Nobody is a privateer without alot of support which all comes at a cost.

I completely agree , there is also a physical and mental feeling that has also been lossed with the 2 stokes missing , with 4 strokes are like if you have seen one or heard one then you have seen them all . With the 2 strokes we could also tell who was where on the track without even seeing or looking for them . All the fast guys rode at there unique musical note that was different from each other. A limiter is a horrible note very dull and generic nothing impressive about the sound of any 4 stroke that has ever been ridden by any rider in my opinion. Yea there easier to ride - way more expensive to buy and way more to keep running , yea they get better traction . All these map settings this and that - just throw a leg over the bike and use throttle management with your Brain body and throttle, a computer is not needed if your brain can do the thinking for you .

ALL dirt bikes should STILL be 2-strokes and everybody who discontinued theirs never got the memo nobody wants a crappy 4-stroke off road bike. Keep those on the street where they belong and the 2-strokes off road on the track and dirt. The anti-2 stroke movement is specifically driven by the EPA and neighbors who complain about the noise and exhaust smoke. No other reasons exist why anybody should prefer a 4-stroke for this purpose. Same thing with all the junk heavy as a battleship 4-stroke weed eaters and leaf blowers. There is no reason for their existence either and they are way too complicated and cost a fortune to fix if anything goes wrong.
