    Does the last example work on a canvas that has dried a few days later? I noticed i have a really dark spot that id like to make lighter and blend it a bit more into the background.

      Yes the last example could work if you color match the lighter area well, cover the dark spot with that lighter color, then blend the edges of that covering out into the rest of the lighter background

      No, you do not have to - It can help sometimes, but this example was only with water
