Thank goodness for Alex being there to show you what a New York pizza actually is. The first two pizzas looked great but they were not NYC style pizza.
I've never been to Scarr's but now I plan on it. That pie just looked like a beautiful work of art.

@@MaltAndPepper it's not judging whether a NY style pizza is good. It's just finding the one that resembles NY pizza which is why the first two missed the mark as the style was more Italian rather than NY. I'm sure I don't need to explain to you what the different types of pizza are and how people can prefer different types

But how big is that 5€ margherita? The one I had in Naples was a nice light meal for 1. Equivalent maybe to 2-3 slices of pizza from this video.

@@krisjohnston5569 I cook fresh every day. There are a few restaurants I go to now and again but I only eat ready meals once or twice a year. I was basing my estimate on UK prices though

Ok listen, while NYC style pizza may have a look of cheese on it - original Italian/ Neapolitan pizza looks EXACTLY like the one at Lombardi’s. You don’t need all that cheese, it’s a perfect specimen.
fran rose I disagree. Just because the original has little cheese, it doesn't mean it's the best way to make pizza. Everything improves.
DarkWolf649 neapolitan pizza doesn‘t need additional cheese. The mozzarella on it stays pretty moist and stringy due to the short backing time.
Try it if possible and you will see that the original way is definately the best way.🤙🏼

Gotta say, I am really happy to see James getting more involved in the videos. It always kinda felt like it was the four guys, and then James. But now, James feels like one of the crew, which I'm really happy about, because he seems like a genuinely cool and interesting person. So, good on you there. =)
The first time I visited New York City we walked into the first/random pizza place we saw because it was night time we had just gotten in and were hungry. It ended up being Scarr's and let me assure you. It's the best.
When I was stationed in Italy, I was surprised by just how different their pizza was from what I grew up on in America. I would say James' pizza seemed to be the closest to what I remember being served in Italy. It seemed the thing about Italian pizza was it was not overly cheesy and definitely not greasy. So, if we're talking the best in New York, I would think the best American-style pizza, and that's most likely going to be uber-cheesy and definitely greasy. By my reasoning, I guess Scarr's pizza would win this particular contest. :-)
Best pizza in Manhattan that I've had was at a place called Keste. I haven't tried Rubirosa or Scarr's yet though.

I was waiting since yesterday for a From the Test Kitchen type of thing. Or an episode of It's Alive with a British twist. I wanted to see them interact with Brad or Half-Sour Saffitz or Andy or Carla. But oh well. I still love Sorted a lot.
Unpopular opinion here but as much as i love the Sorted gang there seems to be a lot less actual recipes these days? All ultimate battles and going to different places which is great but would like to see a few more actual recipe videos.
I'm thinking that perhaps since the ultimate battles involve a recipe, they're counted as actual recipe videos? I love the London's Best series but I do miss the older Sorted style of videos.
Its because CZcams is a tough place to keep making money on, so they're trying to be as competitive as they can be by replicating other more popular video types. Keeps them relevant/more hits etc. I miss them too, heck I just miss proper cooking shows in general. But they've gotta do what they gotta do.
I think a lot of the changes have been positive this "season", but yeah, I'd like to see a few more recipe videos too!
To add to that, they are always amazing when it comes to listening to their audience!

Nice follow up to the pineapple question. I'm guessing you could eat Pizza in Manhattan for a year and not sample it all. Those comparisons were "kinda unfair", in the words of your expert. Very, very interesting, though. The "best pizza" is the one you like the best -- there is no one "best pizza": you can choose yours, and someone else can choose theirs.

Definitely Di Fara. Best in the world imo. And yes, I've been to Napoli. But Rubirosa isn't a tourist trap! We locals love it!

So here's the problem. When you are judging three foods that are the same type, you need to keep everything as similar as possible. The first 2 pizzas were fairly similar with the sauce being different, but then you get to the third pizza and add an entirely different ingredient, you can't judge it with the other 2 because you suddenly made it into a whole different thing.

I feel like $1 pizza would have been a better option. Seems to taste better and is much cheaper. We've got chains down south that sell Pizza for $5-$10. Almost $30 for a pizza, even in NYC just seems insane to me.

I went to Scarr's last week based on Alex's video from Bon Appetit, and it really was REALLY good.
All of the dislikes are from Brooklyn ... because you'll truly find the best NY slice in Brooklyn. You lads have been sent into "Manhattan's Little Italy" which is full of every non-Italian pizza restaurant this side of Italy. *good luck*

Crooklyn has lost so many good pizza shops over the years. Nowadays way too many hipsters there. If you like new wave vegan, gluten free crap pizza shops, Brooklyn's your borough.
If you like classic NYC pizza, go to Queens. Lucia, Amore, Margarita, New Park, VI Pizza, Pizza Garden, Dani's, Nick's, etc, etc, etc. You'll thank me later.

L&B Spimoni Gardens is one of the best New York pizzas and it's a true Sicilian slice thats upside down with cheese and then sauce. Its an all time favorite
