  • I've had my Trek Stache 5 for a couple years now and in my opinion it's the best all around mountain bike you can get for the money! It's great on dirt, snow, sand, concrete, everything! I have mine setup a bit different than your typical 29 inch hardtail mountain bike, so I decided to go over the MTB/dirt jump setup that I run. My Trek Stache has a few upgrades and the video is packed full of sketchy mountain bike shenanigans mixed into the review!

    Nice bike man I have an old Trek Mamba from 2012. Trek makes a solid bike. Nice trails you have down your way

    I just got a 2016 stache 7. I love it. It's a fun bike for sure!

    I'm on my second Stache. I love the bike. First one was a 17.5 then went to 18.5

      Scott Elder such a fun bike! 18.5” feels perfect for me. Thanks for watching man!

      How tall are you guys?

    What about the brakes? I definitely think that 29 mid-plus or 27.5 plus are the best wheel sizes! I just put the new 4piston XT brakes and I’ll probably get 180mm rotors next.

    Glad you like it. I'm shopping for a hardtail and Stache is on my short list. Haven't had a chance to ride one except in the parking lot. Hoping to find a demo event to compare wheel sizes. Do you find those monster tires less nimble?

      Tin Man I think the bigger tires probably take away from some of the “nimbleness” of the bike, but at the same time the short wheelbase makes up for it. The only complaint I have is that I can see myself struggle more than my 27.5” buddies with “normal” tires when we’re out riding depending on terrain just because of the sheer mass of getting these things rolling. With that said though, the tires have huge amounts of grip so they tend to fair well in snow, sand, roots/rocks, etc. Of course I came from the world of BMX where 2.4” tires on a little 20” rim were normal, so my views could be a bit skewed! I saw an article that referred to the Stache as “that one big, burly friend that you have that’s still somehow more flexible than you and can do backflips on command” and I’d say that’s a pretty accurate description 😂

    I want a 29 plus bike, but it looks like the format isn't being supported with Trek discontinuing the Stache.

      Yea I saw that they discontinued it! Huge bummer because this bike was a blast!

    Hello, my I ask you whats size is your frame and how much is the max insertion length inside the seat tube? Thank you very much

    • @LifeOfBurch
      @LifeOfBurch  Před 4 lety

      Luca Neuburg my frame size is 18.5”, which I believe is a medium, and max seat post insertion looks to be roughly 8.5”. Maybe slightly longer.

    Do you have any feedback on how it might compare to a Fuel EX, or Full Stache for an all round trail bike?

    • @LifeOfBurch
      @LifeOfBurch  Před 4 lety

      No I don’t, sorry! I’ve wanted to try out a Fuel EX for awhile now, but unfortunately I haven’t got the chance to ride either of the bikes you mentioned yet. I’m sure the Full Stache is an aaabsolute beast though!

    Why not add a dropper seat post and get the best of both worlds?

    • @LifeOfBurch
      @LifeOfBurch  Před 4 lety

      That was in the plans once I got enough money, but I actually recently sold this bike to get a full fledged dirt jumper! I’m rocking a Specialized P3 now.
