I'd never been one to ask for prices of drinks. And I'd be offended if I ask for a drink and I'm told "it's X amount $". Until I went to a joint in Hollywood Florida. I asked the waitress for a double shot of Remy Martin 1738, after a few minutes, she came back and said "I don't think you want the double shot of Remy. It's $90, and I don't think it's worth it."
I paused for a few seconds, then I said 'you know what? Thank you for telling me. You're right. It's not worth it.' Given the setting that I was in, the max I was expecting to hear, was $50. And even then, that would have been egregious since the bottle cost $45 around my way. And I was only going to be at that spot for about an hour and had almost a full bottle of Henney V.S.O.P at home. Soon as I got home poured myself a nice glass, went in my backyard and smoked a cigar. Since then, any alcohol that I know is somewhat pricey, I ask for the price of shot. Damn the pride. I don't want anymore surprises.
