  • Have you ever wanted to write and illustrate a children’s book? Me too. Come along and learn with me as I go through the process of illustrating and writing my first children’s book. In todays video I will introduce storyboards as well as show you different childrens books and how they layout elements like text, main subject, etc. Each video in this series will have an assignment for you to complete the week it is released.
Think of the storyboard as the layout of the entire book, with thumbnails for each page. You can plan where the main images will be, text, if you want a 2 page spread, a single page illustration or multiple illustrations on one page. After finishing look over your book and see how it flows. This is a starting point, and will most likely receive many edits throughout this process. It is a beginning.
You story board will depend on the size of book you will be printing and the page count, that is why we simply talk about it in this tutorial and you will create it on your own.
You can include text in the story board if you would like.
    Tips for the storyboard
*Think about scale - the main subject can appear closer and further away
*Think about creating balance - too many bright colored objects can be balanced by smaller muted ones
