- Harvest time is upon us and I’ve got another new permission…. Over 1,000 acres but I was immediately drawn to this field with medieval trackways and crop marks and 🤩 what a day!!

I have said it before what a privilege to see that coin even more to hold it
Amen Paul. A real beauty and a sore loss for someone that’s for sure!!
The half penny with the hole in it could have been a child’s toy. Here in the US, people would drill a hole in a small denomination coin, and put a string through the hole. The child would use it by spinning the coin and allowing it to run the distance of the string. Obviously, this was before widespread manufacture of children’s toys.
Never seen this but what I have seen is a large cent with two holes in it they would use as a “wizer”
The steel ball is off a tractor linkage arms. Like a ball joint
I agree!
Aha! Thanks for the info Mark!
It's the luckiest man in Scotland!!!!! Great job on 31k bud.
Thanks David. I’m certainly lucky with the permissions that’s for sure!! Best wishes
@@thescottishdetectorist well deserved my friend.
Greetings from Canada. Congratulations on the awesome silver coin!
Not only did they have lead pipe work, but, they found that by reducing fruit juice to ⅓ its original volume in lead lined vats, it produced a syrupy which was quite pleasurable to the taste.
They called it Sapa and it contained vastly dangerous levels if lead acetate. The amount of recipes which called for its use was quite staggering.
They believe that in the 4th century, there were recipe books for which ⅕ of all recipes contained Sapa.
Eventually, they figured out how to create the crystalline form if this lead sugar which only enhanced its reach.
Apparently, come the end of the empire, they were by then well aware if the dangers of lead consumption, but, by then it was too late.
They believe, as you quite rightly point out, that their downfall could quite possibly be related to the effects of accumulated buildup of lead throughout the body of many of their peoples throughout their extended empire.
neat info... I'm always happy to expand my knowledge. Cheers!
A hammered Ag and 3 Cu turners, and all the rest! Excellent, John!
A pretty successful wee day out!! Fingers crossed for some fantastic finds from these fields!!! 🤩 best wishes
Congratulations on the new permission and the great silver find!
Many thanks as ever! And for the continued support ❤️
Lovely finds John...here's to more of the same...good luck.
Fingers crossed more to come from these fields
Amazing hammered silver coin!
Much appreciated it’s a belter as we say in Scotland
Oh, boy, a new field with lots of history. Love your videos! 🥰💕❤️👍👍
Many thanks Terry, hopefully many more treasures to come
Even toasty turners are treasures to me because we would not likely find anything that old in California. Nice dig, cheers!🍻
Please don’t call yourself ugly! I think you are quite handsome. You favor George Clooney to be honest. Anyway, thanks for another great video 😉
Aww 🥰 you say the nicest things! Thanks
Excellent day out in the fields. You’ll have one happy farmer with your beautiful silver 😍🤩
What a beauty of a coin!
Thanks Rob. A real cracker 🤩
Awesome! Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Thanks for watching and for the support!
Fabulous John! Your Farmer friend must be blessing the day he said yes to you!! Especially finding that Elizabeth 1st silver sixpence. (My favourite lady and period in history!) I hope he was over the moon with it! Onwards John, we want to see more!! Much love to you and the family. 😘😘 Chez in Lliria Valencia Spain 😘😘
Great coins! The metal clip at @12 minutes reminded me of a clip from a glasses case to hold it in your pocket. Cheers from New Orleans
Thanks for watching and for the suggestion! Sounds like a good shout to me! See you on the next dig!
Congratulations on the new permission. Sure to be full of treasures and surprises. Good luck!
Fingers crossed more to come!! See you on the next dig
Beautiful hammered. Congrats! Here in the states, I hear told that it was cheaper to use a big penny for a washer than to buy expensive washers. I just realized that at those early dates, it could have been one of my ancestors who dropped it. Okay, that is just a weird thought. It's the heat. 108f at my house in the hills of s central Texas.
What a find! A beauty indeed! How exciting!
Great find for this new permission.
Thanks Maureen. I meant to post a picture of the crop marks in this field but forgot but it’s littered with them so hopefully lots more to come!!
Wow, John, the hammered silver coin is fantastic for sure. Even the toasted Turners are awesome to find. Looks like you will have a good number of finds coming up in these new fields. Cheers from Texas, and excited to see what comes next.
Many thanks David. Hopefully lots more to come and the turners plus the silver suggest lots of activity around the 1500/1600’s so hopefully more to come!!! Watch this space and see you on the next!
I think there are a lot of us in Texas following John.
I'm in San Angelo. John has the best detecting channel in my opinion.@@terrymeininger9491
Snap! Nice hammered there John. I am amazed that only a few days ago on my permission I also unearthed the same hammered Lizzy 1st Sixpence 1567. My first hammered off this permission. The coin is in great condition too with a lot of detail. Still buzzing with my find. I am out tomorrow with high hopes for another. You got a great new permission there bud. All the best and HH.
Many thanks and we’ll done on the coin! Amazing!! Happy hunting and best of luck
Great days digging mate! Plenty more on that farm😊
A fantastic new permission John. What a day , an Elizabeth 1 silver sixpence and all those other finds. I hope the farmer was pleased.
…They lost interest in being king and queen of France when they lost their heads.
..”Shock..Horror “..
John,
Wonderful find,
Thank you for another fascinating history lesson with a dash of humor.
Kevin
A lot of promise in that field!! Cant wait for your next visit!
Amazing coin.
Thanks, over the moon with this one that’s for sure
Well you sure know how to build the suspence! Lol congrats on the great find ànd thanks for taking us along!
I do enjoy a sit-down with the charming detectorist/history guide. As long as I have my trusty "Wee Guide to the Scottish Language" (with pictures) at the ready. My old raincoat had a fold down clasp just like that one.
Congrats on the silver coin!!!! Elizabeth l has always been my favorite monarch. Love all the history surrounding her reign.
Nice finds! The coin with the hole may have been used as a spinner toy, put some string through and spin the coin.
it's so fun to tag-a-long with you as you discover bits of history. Great day! Congrats on the new permission!
John a fantastic new permission with an incredible silver hammy, this permission must have lots more to come thanks again cheers
I really enjoy all the historical information you’re full of! Thank you for that! My ancestors are from the Orkney Islands and I’m enjoying your accent very much as I wish I could have know them but glad I live in Canada in todays time line🤭☺️
The holed coin could have had a string through it to wear around the neck, for safe keeping…poor bugger lost a couple days wages… another great video John.
Butter fingers John 😂 lovely big hammy well done mate 🤩
Crikey Jock, whit a coin tae find. Elizabeth the 1st, from the late 1500’s. Whit a fantastic find son. Well done 👍👍
The round iron looks like an old Ox Knob. They were put on trimmed horns of bulls and such to stop getting gored.
If not it could be the top of an old bedstead??
That’s a good shout! Thanks
That’s a good call too!!
It's a ball of a lift arm, used on the back of a tractor when they wear they fall out
Absolutely epic John, very well done, you lucky Scotsman. I'm champing at the bit waiting for Detectorville, and hoping for a good find. Just one would do, I'm not greedy. 😁
Looks like a great permission John. Very nice Hammy 👌
A good bagful of finds John well done and, as usual a great back storey to the Elizabeth 1 Sixpence really enjoyed it thank you
That bar on the Garret is a pain!!! Really enjoyed watching this John. You know the tag you found at 29:51, I found one on my permission which had 3/4 stamped on the back!! Not sure what they were used for. What a find!!! Lovely silver coin mate. Very jealous.👏👏This coincides with me finding two pieces of silver on my permission today. Not coins, one small piece hallmarked 1907, the other on the other side of the field totally blank and I thought it was tin. Kept it with my good finds and did the foil test. My son said it smelt like a fart!!!🤣🤣That's good enough for me.🤣🤣I would appreciate it if you could let me know what cameras you use please John.👍👍
Great fines John and well done for your the commentary. hope more to come from this new permission ROBERT
Lovely new permission John love the lizzie silver and all them turner's well done on another great video as always thanks for sharing and keep up the hard work mate 👍

Happy hunting Mike

Fabulous find! What a great new permission, look forward to seeing what else you find out there. I'm sure the farmer was over the moon!
Blessings, my Scottish Detectorist friend, from these beautiful hills of Tennessee. The days have grown shorter and cooler and the leaves are falling. Stay warm and keep digging while you can. Brilliant finds.

OMG JOHN!!! WHAT A FIND!!!! SO HAPPY FOR YOU ON AN EXTREMELY RARE COIN!!!! Gotta hunt a lifetime to find a BEAUTY like that!!! Congrats on a well deserved piece of history!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Fabulous John! What a fun time you will have showing the farmer those beauties!
Thanks Greg. He was over the moon, more stuff to report to the museum!! I’m gonna be kept busy
At last the local farmers are reaping, can't wait to get out bronze age tool hunting. Every other county seems to well be ahead of ours 🥲 John's luck strikes again beautiful Elizabeth the first 😃
Thanks Brenda. It’s great to see the harvest coming in!
The half penny was probably holed for a washer since a washer probably costs more than a half penny to purchase. Love your knowledge and shares, remain well!
Much appreciated and best wishes
That looks like a pretty good field to work, congratulations!
Such a cracking film there John, and really great mix of finds on that field well done.
The hammered Elizebeth is gorgeous pal well done.
Did laugh with that reference to ‘Taggert’ about the dove/pidgeon murder
All the best to you and thanks for sharing
Absolutely beautiful coin. Congratulations
,that metal clip looks like what is on the back of my antique picture frame that holds the backing cardboard and glass in place.
Very excited for your very special find, I'm always amazed at your history knowledge...love listening to that....
Brilliant John you make even the routine finds exciting
Very nice work john!!
Thanks 😊
Nice one John!
Thanks Paulie, hopefully more to come from this field and the other 1,000 acres!
Come across your channels and gained a subscription you definitely know your history. Many metal detectors don't . Keep up the digging buddy!
That was so exciting! Thankyou for taking g the trouble to video your outings.
Love hunting a new spot. Congratulations. Awesome video!!!
O SCORE !!! What a slammer !!
Thanks 😊
What a permission! Some cracking finds there John. Good luck 🤞
I haven't finished watching yet, but I've had gin on a school night and I need to confess that back in the 80s when I was a kid messing about in the farmers' fields near home, I'd find dozens and dozens of intact clay pipe bowls, many still with the little spur on the bottom to keep them upright. They were beautifully and intricately designed and absolutely pristine. I'd take them home to wash the mud out... and then they'd vanish in the mists of time. Since I started detecting earlier this year, these wee things - which meant little to me at the time - have become one of those life regrets that I can do nowt about. Such a shame 🫤
Great video as always, super lizzie. Plenty more to come I'm sure. Cheers
Great finds! I can only imagine the thrill of finding coins from the 1500 and 1600s. Looking forward to your return visit to this place 👍
Congratulation on you magnificent QE 1 And thanks for the history lesson. Great stuff.
A find like that makes up for those days when all you get is junk! As always another great video whatever you find I always enjoy watching them.
Love the clod shots ❤😂 i hold my breath until we see...the Elizabeth hammered is stunning.
Oh! I think your going to spend a lot of time at that permission! and that your anxious to get back there, I know I would be! You may not have been impressed with the impression but you were certainly impressed with the coin, Me too!... its a shame about the turners, hopefully theres some to be found that have survived a bit better! Enjoy yourself Mate! Cheers and Thanks!
So many congrats on your Elizabethan, it's stunning!
Great finds 😊
Congratulations on a great new permission. Amazing Elizabeth silver.wonderful video. Thanks so much. Been a while since you had something for the archeologist to ID.😊
Awesome finds John, especially the hammered silver, hope the farmer is as happy as I am that he gave you permission!
Yay! This video is like the “good ole days” 😂. Can’t wait for fall to get here and follow more of your detecting adventures.
Anyone interested in increasing John’s CZcams revenue just watch all the ads fully. He’ll get a bigger check ;-)

Whoa! What an outstanding day you had. All of the Turners were great, but that beautiful hammered silver coin with Queen Elizabeth I was epic.
Well done, John. Please visit that field again soon.
Wow beautiful silver Elizabeth 🎉🎉 Hope that permission gives you many more 🤞 Do you give your finds to the farmers? Great video John
Excellent stuff buddy. Really pleased that you were rewarded with the spanking Lizzie 1 silver. A terrific find, indeed.! Bless up 👊
Amazing Elizabethan coin! I'm sure the farmer was just as excited!
Great new permission!!! Always exciting to see you finding super stuff! Surprised you don't find more clay pipe pieces, really. Didn't know clogs were used in Scotland. Goes to show, you do learn something new every day!!🥰🥰🥰
