    Very nice video. I just vacationed on Dauphin Island a couple weeks ago. We took the car ferry from Dauphin Island to Fort Morgan. Which is the name of the Fort you mentioned and here is a little info about it. Fort Morgan is a Third System masonry fort built between 1819 and 1833. Standing guard where the bay meets the Gulf of Mexico, the fort played a significant role in the Battle of Mobile Bay in August 1864. Used intermittently through the Spanish American War, World War I and World War II, the site showcases the evolution of seacoast fortifications and adaptations made by the U.S. Army for the defense of the country. In 1946 the site was turned over to the State of Alabama as a historic site.

    Great video. My family heads to GS every year. First year we stayed in Fort Morgan. A little too quiet for the kids but perfect for my pace. I love this place.

    That was the day before my ppl checkride. I agree that approach is a little intimidating with all of those trees and that water tower during the approach.

    very nice video - the first golf course is Kiva Dune....my favorite course. The swampy area is Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge - it is beautiful. We stay in the Fort Morgan area at least once a year....and yes, that is restricted air space.

    I heard you call left downwind for 31 (30) but never heard you call your base or your final, you talked about the golf course but nothin else. I guess it was a great thing you were out there by yourself. Just cutting up with you my friend, thanks for the awesome video. We live in North Alabama and have been looking at property at Dauphin Island but never flown in there, I have a smaller twin but I’m certain I could easily get in and out of there even thou it’s a little short.

    Neat ride along. Love it down there. BTW, the undeveloped "swamp" areas along the north of the barrier island from Gulf Shores to Fort Morgan is called Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge.

    A lot of the rigs you see are actually natural gas rigs, along with some oil rigs. From my knowledge, the ones in the Bay are primarily natural gas rigs.

    I don't know if that "restricted area" is active or not.....give you a hint genius......RESTRICTED AREA.

    • @tallishyeti2756
      @tallishyeti2756 Před 7 lety +3

      Calypso Handjack some restricted areas are only active (restricted) if they are in use. Other times it's perfectly fine to fly through them. It is the pilots responsibility to check the notices to airmen to see which areas are active or not
