Beautiful Grave But Shes Not Dead | Oscar Wilde | Frédéric Chopin

- In addition to the elaborate tombs, there are various monuments dedicate to individuals or groups of people including:
Monuments for foreign soldiers who died for France during WWII
Monuments in the memory of victims of concentration and extermination camps
Monuments in homage to victims of catastrophic aerial accidents
Monuments in homage to victims of June 1848 (the suppression of the Paris working class uprising)
Monument for the genocide in Rwanda
This famous cemetery is the burial site of numerous French luminaries - authors, writers, musicians and more.
A stroll among the graves is an unusual and rewarding lesson in French and international cultural heritage. Honoré de Balzac, Colette, Eugène Delacroix, Raymond Radiguet, Maria Callas and Sarah Bernhardt are among the cemetery’s notable names. The list of famous individuals who are buried here includes 40 singers, 40 composers and 75 painters.
The star-crossed lovers Heloise and Abelard were the first people of note to be buried here in 1817, when the cemetery was still new. The remains of Molière and Jean de La Fontaine were relocated to the adjoining plots the same year, although for various reasons no one knows for certain whether it is really their bones that lie in the graves. Frédéric Chopin’s grave does indeed contain his body, but his heart is buried in Poland. The composer, who was afraid of being buried alive, had asked for his heart to be removed after he died.
A few madeleines placed on the stone by the writer’s fans are a clue that you’ve reached the tomb of Marcel Proust, while the poet Alfred de Musset’s grave site is flanked by a weeping willow, his favourite tree.
Victor Noir, born Yvan Salmon (27 July 1848 - 11 January 1870), was a French journalist. After he was shot and killed by Prince Pierre Bonaparte, a cousin of the French Emperor Napoleon III (r. 1852-1870), Noir became a symbol of opposition to the imperial regime. His tomb in Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris has become a fertility symbol.

The sculptures were beautiful, Sue. Thank you so much for sharing Oscar Wilde's grave site.
You are very welcome
The statue of the family and the dog is incredible.
I agree, so many to catch the yes and get you lost too, it happened so many times here, keep seeing beautiful monuments then you're lost again
The bust on the top is Mr Auguste Bain born in 1856, passed away in 1916. He became a cutlery manufacturer and trader. He is the inventor of the mechanical single-edged razor and the hair clipper. It made the fortune of Auguste Bain, for whom the family was able to build an extraordinary chapel, covered with sculptures. The statue with a dog is his son, Robert Bain, born in 1891 and passed away in 1904, at a young age of 13. As for the identity or meaning of the other two statues, a boy and a girl remain unknown.
Brilliant!! Thank you ❤️
Thank you so much @johnnyquest6894 it's always nice to hear of their stories.
@@SerenitySueGraveyards honestly I get lost so easily lol. So I dread to think where I would end up. I definitely need a chaperone. 😅
What a beautiful cemetery 😊
It sure is ❤️
Lovely, thank you!
I’m glad that Heloise and Abelard are together.
Thank you too!
Lots on interesting history. Beautiful architecture and sculptures!
Glad you enjoyed it
The symbolism in the details of the older monuments would be interesting to explore. There are many messages hidden in plain sight within them.
I agree, it's fascinating
Thank you for a most beautiful tour. God bless for making this possible.😊
So nice of you to say, thanks 😊
I like the one with the 2 lovers, how they made that is incredible it's so big the edges are do smooth and so much detail, thanks Sue, your amazing
Hi Lora Lee, hope you're well x x
@@SerenitySueGraveyards was in the hospital Sue, for a week, almost died. Got 3 units of platelets, 3 units of blood 4 antibiotics lots of other stuff. All numbers tanked. Better now. Went in with a low fever 100.3 went to 103. You know when you're dying, they don't tell you. I have a cancer navigator, she watches over me and makes sure everything is on track. She said I was in her prayers every night. I'm Soo stupid, it didn't Dawn on me about all the stuff they were putting into me, something was serious. Had a blood infection, part of the Cancer came off and went into my blood. I'm Soo sorry for your loss it was hard to see you so upset. Your such a good person. Looking forward to more videos, miss your old entry song before your vids started. Take care loralee
Love the video today from Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks Kylie ❤️
My heart did drop when I saw those young kids graves. Once you've seen that, you will never forget that moment. So so sad. RIP young souls.❤
The young children's graves are the saddest
The statue of the still living lady is not a big secret. It is mentioned on the internet with picture and information. She organized it herself in 2008. Her name is also on the gravestone of her husband who is burried in a different cemetry. So she already creates some kind of mystery around her future death. Btw : I've been to père Lachaise several times and it is amazing. Thank you for your beautiful video!
Wow thanks so much, that's amazing. She really is a stunning lady too. I'm going to look this up as I find it strange her husband is not buried here, a little sad but it happens
The statue of the living lady is stunning...amazing sculpture work. I was not aware of this before the video, and this is not a practice i know of that is done very much here in the States. And why is her husband not with her? Hmm. But not just the statue of her, the amount of care, time, and attention to detail for so many of the gravesites and memorials here is amazing...every corner you turn its amazing...and each one is a persons history. Wow...could easily spend a lot of time there exploring!!
Beautiful cemetary. Thank you Sue and GV💐
Glad you enjoyed it
In Pere Lachaise, where twilight softly weaves,
A realm of whispers, where love never leaves,
Amidst the sepulchers and ivy's tender grace,
A sacred beauty in this enchanting place.
Ancient oaks, their limbs in reverence bow,
To guard the secrets of those resting now,
Each stone a saga, etched in history's embrace,
In Pere Lachaise, where souls entwine with grace.
Cobblestone paths meander through this sacred glen,
Where vows of ardor and tears return again,
Carved angels stand with mournful, watchful eyes,
While the world outside in chaos flies.
Oscar Wilde, in opulence, finds his sleep,
'Neath verses kissed by hearts that vigil keep,
Piaf's sweet song, forever in the breeze,
In Pere Lachaise, where legends find their ease.
Jim Morrison's tomb, adorned by fervent souls,
A rock 'n' roll poet, in sepulchral roles,
In the City of Light, his spirit still does roam,
In Pere Lachaise, where he's found his home.
Marble sculptures, aged by the weight of years,
Marked by grief, by love, and countless tears,
Yet here, 'midst fragrant blooms that gently rise,
Life and death waltz in profound reprise.
Tombs and crypts, an artful labyrinth to view,
A gallery of passion, of love renewed,
In Pere Lachaise, where past and present twine,
A timeless promenade, where souls entwine.
In the moonlit alleys, and the sun's warm embrace,
A saunter through Pere Lachaise, a sacred space,
Where the living and the departed merge in night,
In this cemetery of beauty, 'neath the Parisian light.
Beautiful

Hi Sue what an enlightening video learnt a lot of interesting facts another great video you made under trying conditions than youSue and also to your oss sider thanks both of you.

That place is awesomely beautiful, even had crows (although they sounded as if they had a French accent) 😂😂😂 you know if you don’t throw together a book (I know shut up Jim) 😂😂 if you don’t do a book it would be truly sad, I know you could do it and Corrine from “Are ghosts real” has herself already had a book published back in 2014, perhaps she’d give you some help with starting this project, I know she would she’s really a nice lady 👍👍👍
Excellent as always Sue ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Jim, how are you, any new videos coming? I know you're busy but take it easy

SUCH BEAUTIFUL MONUMENTS , i could spend hours in there myself. Thank you so much for showing these graves, why didn't they bury Oscar Wilde in Ireland . ?
Seemly he died bankrupt and they couldn't afford to send him home
@@SerenitySueGraveyards Oh , that is so sad. 😢💔
Ran across part 2 before part 1 but I will also watch it.

Hi Guys, There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about. 😂, Oscar wilde. I loved the tour, pity we couldn't see the grave of Edith Piaf, the little swallow. I love her song namely, Non je ne regrette rien. I have no regrets. A beautiful song. Cheers.
Oh I searched for Edith but this place was bigger than I'd ever thought. Even the map was of no help, we asked so many who also seemed as lost as I
@@SerenitySueGraveyards Hi Sue, no probs it look smaller than it really is, but beautiful resting place.
I love Chopin funeral march. such wonderful Graves
Thank you ❤️
Hello Sue , fantastic so much to see I would love to do a tour of this place . Thanks you Sue .
If you ever get a chance to go definitely Père-Lachaise should be the number one go to

I was there the week before Princess Diana died. I went with my sister to find Jim Morrisons grave. I remember we found Yves Montand, Oscar Wildes ( There was no glass partition) and Sarah Bernhardt graves. We eventually found Jim Morrisons and there was a guard guarding it at the time it smelled of drugs as well. If I had know about the guy you can rub I would definitely having given it a feel🤭😉🤣🤣🤣
Hahaha its crazy to see
Dear Sue. in my innocence I thought it was the pore fellas Knee that had been touched for luck. We’re a bit backwards here in Australia.
Not at all but yup it was his manhood they touch
31:41 Couldn't find any information who lies in this grave with statue of a pelican, but I’m quite certain there must be an interesting story behind it!
I couldn't either, very interesting
Please tell me they weren't doing what my brain thinks they were doing 😐
Just Google Victor Noir and you'll unfortunately see young girls almost naked doing photoshoots, actually don't, it's disgusting 😕
@@SerenitySueGraveyards what In the ...for real? And they allow that ? That's disgusting 🤢
Found some information on the lovely lady who died in 1944. Found it in French and used Google to translate it.
Mrs. Andrée says:
"In 1944, I live in the Montparnasse district, Lucienne lives in the Les Halles district where her father has a fruit and vegetable business. In August 1944, the announcement of the Allied's rapid advance led to a rumour of a near liberation of Paris.
A few days before the arrival of the French troops, the resistance fighters harmed the occupants. I often call Lucienne to tell her what is happening in my neighbourhood and Lucienne is enthusiastic and ready to live this moment that we have all been waiting for for a long time.
We made tricolour flags with what we could in the meantime. But it's also confusion. On August 20, 1944, Lucienne hearing an armoured sound, assumed that they were the liberators and went to her window waving her tricolour flag... unfortunately it was a German troop and a shot killed her Lucienne.
That's how we are a victim of what was supposed to be a moment of joy: the liberation of Paris. ”
How very sad, such a wate of a beautiful life 😢
@@SerenitySueGraveyards Yes. She was in the prime of her life and so close to the end of the war.
Poor Victor come on let him have a rest ladies 😂 amazing grave sue 😊
Poor Victor is right 🤣

Some day? France expensive too?

Well we got a cheap hotel, which was lovely and we ate in macdonalds so we knew exactly what we were paying. The underground is cheap and efficient it was 2euro 10 cent per journey per person or you can buy a week card for bus and train
A beautiful cematery. It would have been nice to know the dates of their deaths.
I did what I could
I was there in 2011 and with a full battery in my camera. I took some beautiful Fotos. My mother had asked me for a foto of Jim Morrison. Took one foto and my camera just shut down. Battery empty. So I didn't get Chopin and others. I always say that Jim didn't want his picture taken. Haha did they put glass around Wilde?!! I have a picture without the glass and covered with lipstick.
Yes the glass is around Oscars tomb but now they kiss the glass lol, you could have ten cameras with fresh batteries and still never see it all to photo, I think I left a title piece of my Irish heart there
I have a picture of myself at Noir's grave.
Oh really, cool
RIP little Kelly🙏🙏🙏
❤️❤️
The amount of money / time that it would have cost / taken to create these amazing structures ... and they say you 'cant take it with you when you go'? I think they did.
I agree with you, absolutely amazing
Theres a gag channel on here with a guy sitting on a bench dressed as a bandit cowboy whos robbed a bank and he looks like he's made of bronze,if he'd see this he'd gag scare the pants off these friendly women,😉
🤣🤣🤣🤣
He'll be done for murder 😂
Saying hello from Granite Bay, California Hoping your kids are doing well with the death of their Dad. Sending my best to you and your husband I know the time you spend giving us pleasure.
Thanks for thinking about us ❤️❤️
That's interesting. They put a glass enclosure around Oscar Wilde's grave. That was not there when I visited in the 90s. There was a penis hanging from the man positioned on the side of the grave. It had been broken off. Looks like they didn't replace it.
Not sure when the glass was put up around Oscar Wildes grave
George Rodenbach cause of death appendicitis at age 43. Typical reason for an early death in the days before antibiotics. His tomb is one of the best sculptures in Père Lachaise for me. Remarkable but not ostentatious, as some are clearly monuments to the family's wealth.
Thanks a million, as we say here, you can't bring it with you. Yet I find the monuments works of art
That's most likely what killed him, looks like lonely women come to sit on his bump its rather worn and polished looking😆
Haha close lol you'll have to wait and see
Been to PLC three times, still have not covered it all
It's amazing and so huge
Do these women know he was GAY. There were so many stunning graves/mausoleum. Thanks Sue
I'm not sure if they did but what a stunning Place it is

Very strange, there are some pretty disgusting photos online of practically naked women doing photoshoots with Victor.
