- In today's episode of TLP, Jason and Chris are talking about a classic, all-American acoustic guitar. The Gretsch. The founder of Gretsch was a German immigrant who came to New York and started making some of the world's coolest guitars. This guitar looks and sounds really great. It shows its age, but wears it well. We're extremely excited to have it in the studio.

Such amazing tone..just..wow..
I have a 1958 Gretsch Country Club.. the original owner put a rotating "round" switch with all kind of sounds ...
That intro song was amazing.
Wow, thank you. It's an original of ours. We record the same song every episode but we change how we play/produce it based on the guitar at hand. Thanks for watching!
Scottish Young ujjhm.. ii
I don't exactly know the year of my gretsch.somewhere between 50 and 58 it looks sort of like the one you have hanging on the wall it's a blonde plywood electromatic... Have to get some work done to the binding around the side then I was going to string it with some heavier gauge strings probably with the E string starting at 012 .or 013... Cuz I'm going to open tune it and use it for slide
That sounds awesome. Yeah that one in the background is a 53 Epiphone Century. Yes, as you said it's made with a ply. It's probably my favorite guitar right now. I usually keep it at my house with a little Vox amp and compose with it.

Gretsch ships the new Sycromatics with heavier gauge flatwounds...
That's cool. I have electric strings on this one, .10s. I bet the flat wounds would sound better overall, smoother, but I like to play this as a blues machine where I do a lot of bending and the tin-can-ish sound that comes from the electric 10s gives it an old time radio kinda sound.
So, I just put a light weight flat wound on this guitar and really love it!
