Abu Muhammad sahb is absolutely right about the art being commercialised, materialised and Bollywood's exploitation. But, with all due respect, during the 90s there was a Qawwal from Punjab (who we all know) was at the forefront of such mistreatment of Qawwali. He introduced the concept of materialism, worldly romanticism and sexualisation into Qawwali. And to be honest, us Pakistanis are still very proud of him (sadly).

برادر ابو محمد اور انکے بھائی فریدایاز بلاشبہ بہت ہی عمدہ قوال ھیں اور بہت اچھی باتیں کرنے والے فنکار ھیں لیکن قوالی کا رشتہ کلاسیکل سے جوڑنا ہضم نا ھونیوالی بات ھے۔قوالی کی سب سے بڑی متفقہ بات یہ ھے کہ اس میں راگ قائم نہیں رھتا تو پھر قوال گویا کیسے ھوسکتا ھے۔بقول تمام قوالوں کہ۔
قوالی میں ٹھمری دادرا خیال سب کچھ شامل ھوتا ھے۔
تو اس روشنی میں قوالی موسیقی کا فالودہ ھے اور بس۔
