Careful. My detent hole wore out, probably from having my fingers on the lockbar. But those really won't deploy with your finger on the lockbar brand new. Now mine can barely deploy on the other end.
If I could afford it, I’d support Grimsmo by buying one of each of their products. My appreciation for them goes beyond the knives partly because his brother-in-law is an awesome Paleontologist I’ve been following for longer than I knew of the company. You do a double-take when someone posts a pic of a Norseman digging fossils up out of the ground! It’s something that brings two passions of mine together and is special for that reason.
Couple people have mentioned the double bounce. Grimsmo stuff should be ran nearly dry, tiniest of drop on pivot and the detent ball is all it needs. The bounce happens because its overlubed basically. He comments on it being dry from factory- that is how its supposed to be. Exceptions for the older norseman, they do indeed bounce more/easily.

Contrary to the majority out there, I've never really liked frame/liner lock knives with "absolutely fall-shutty action". They seem like a guillotine just waiting to take off my finger. Axis, or compression, or button locks seem more appropriate for that type of action. Think I would prefer slow, controlled close instead, thanks.
I thought they made the bearings in house as well. Great video as always though. If I ever get selected in the lottery for a Rask I will gladly fork over the money.
A great action maybe but the fact that every time you close it now it bounces back open is pretty ridiculous for an almost thousand dollar knife. I mean how hard would it have been to get a slightly firmer detent? Maybe instead of making fancy screws that no one will ever see they should put more work into things that actually matter. Like the safety of the knife.
The engraving on the spine looks so much more classy and quality than on the side of the Norseman blade. Hell, overall the Rask is so much better looking than the hoof styling of the Norseman it's hard to believe they come from the same people.
The part of the action that I do think is a sizable flaw, is the way the blade bounces out when you close it. I mean, yikes and away. How has that detent not been improved since the Norseman?
Absolutely beautiful knife, i would love to have one. but definitely too expensive in my opinion. 400-500$? Expensive but worth it. 800-1000$? I dont think so.

It doesn't dry up. For example, 4 days ago I just disassembled, cleaned, and oiled an old junk PM2 (thinking of selling or giving away). This pm2 hadn't been disassembled in at least 6 months minimum, and hasn't been carried since November 2019) There was still nano oil in there when I opened her up
I have a few theories. Keep in mind these are only MY theories. Microtec has had a tradition of using proprietary hardware. Mr. Shabazz likes to take knives apart, examine their engineering and mechanics. Proprietary hardware makes that difficult and will void a warranty quickly. Something that disturbs and perturbs The Nick. Next theory, California has a lot of archaic laws with regards to knafs. Microtec has recently been adapting to that and making "Cali legal" blade length offerings, but a large part of their catalog and many of their more interesting releases remain outside of what's "acceptable" to carry. My third theory is that Nick looks for knives that will be practical for his day to day lifestyle. "Tacti-cool," hard use and overbuilt knives, generally speaking, just don't appeal to him or fit into his lifestyle. He's aware of the societal stigma surrounding such pieces and makes a concerted effort not to have people diving under lunch tables or running for the exits in horror when he actuates or deploys a blade, regardless of his good nature and benign intensions. This doesn't mean he has 0 interest in ALL OTFs. In fact I think that Nick really enjoys the mechanics of the G&G Hawk Deadlock, at least from an engineering perspective. Almost all OTFs have rattle and blade play, whereas the Hawk does not. Bladeplay and Shabazz are two things that don't go together. Aside from these three main points, Nick appreciates refined materials, craftsmanship, ingenuity and he looks for progression and aesthetic details from a manufacturer. Microtec isn't without these and it's true that some are made with carbon fiber, etc...but for many people once you've held one shaky rectangular aluminum box you're ready to move on to something else. This isn't a dig at Microtec, moreso just an it is what it is scenario. I'm just some random jackass and cannot speak directly for the man, but I took a "stab" at it...get it..."stab." I'll see myself out.

It the most smooth and fun to play with folder I have, with a great blade steel and reasonable price if you can find one msrp. But like you said most microtechs are otfs or have unique screws for uneasy disassembly.
@@oldaccount7463 Oh man, for sure! I really really like that model. The only thing that keeps me from trying to find one is the orientation of the clip. Tip down carry doesn't do it for me. If you're looking for an honest reviewer who enjoys the big and bad stabby things I recommend checking out Metal Complex. He's a fiend for all things Hinderer, but he really likes Microtech too. He's constantly reviewing knives and uploading new videos. The other knife channel with a lot of Microtech content is Frankie and Bird over at Birdshot IV. It won't hurt Nick's feelings if you sub to them. They're all friends and pass knives back and forth for review. CHEERS!!
When I first saw the norseman I loved it, but then I kept seeing it on Instagram, Reddit, sometimes FB. Every time I saw it, it became more and more unattractive to me. The action on both knives seem really stellar but man the rest of it, no thanks.
none of their knives stays shut.. what is up with that bounce.. drop shut is over rated but if you're going to do drop shut make it stay shut like a holt or shiro...
Certainly a nice knife with a stellar action.....no real position to comment on a knife I have never held and can't afford.....but for me, three things let this one down.....colour - yuk!, I'm sure they do other options but why would you ever offer this as one?. The sharpening choil seems to be more of a petulant compromise to a customer demand with little consideration to its design impact, almost like they only wanted to change the absolute minimum amount of CNC machine code. Once seen and heard that double dribble/bounce on the close (does that happen on every close, on every Rask II?).....might be the solid....No....just my impressions

Have to agree with you. Most of these details and refinements are in areas that don’t really matter at all and only increase production cost, ergo price. At the end of the day, this is still a near $1K production knife that will cut open packaging and fruit for most users.
lol. this makes Holts reasonably priced. looks like a decent CNC production knife that's pretending to be a "custom", one that can be produced in china to these exact specs for 150-200$ and still make a profit without all the stupid, unnecessary, pointless "details" which are there just to drive up the cost and nothing else. Reate has been doing more complicated stuff for at least half a decade. that's also the most unsightly, unwholesome sharpening "choil" i've seen. looks like an afterthought (to be polite), which is simply unacceptable for a knife in this price range

every thing is made inhouse except the bearings and those are just a little over 1000.00 per hundred for ceramic bearings

I am pretty sure nano oil is like rem oil in that it dries, I believe it was some solidified oil in the applicator.
No, it was the color of the cap. I've never experienced it to dry up.

Well heat-treated rwl-34 will out perform most production m390/204p/20cv. Why change if you are doing it well?
