Thank you so much for continuing the Allie X reactions 🥰 She’s a very underrated artist and not many channels react to her music, so it’s great to watch someone discovering her discography for the first time. Even if these videos don’t get as many views because she’s so niche, they are absolutely adored by the people who watch them! I loved hearing your thoughts on the songs and the cool little details you were able to pick out and notice about them, even on first listen. From my experience, I will say that I’ve heard a lot of people think that CollXtion 1 is her best work and each album afterwards is a decline in quality. In my opinion, CollXtion 1 is her most immediate body of work - it’s the best on first listen, full of bops and explosive choruses, and the songs all have that crazy adrenaline/dopamine rush - but her later work is much more interesting, and it just needs time to grow on you before you see the genius of it. For me, that’s meant that the later work has pulled ahead of CollXtion 1 over time even if I haven’t liked it as much on first listen because the songs don’t ever get stale and just get better the more you play them. But if you do find yourself falling into the ‘CollXtion 1 is best’ camp, that’s totally cool and valid too 😁 Hopefully you continue the Allie X journey because her next two projects are both very different and very exciting. Super Sunset builds on some of the influences you can hear in songs like Vintage and creates a full vaporwave-adjacent 80’s nostalgia soundscape that really packs a punch. It’s only 6 full songs, 4 of which are vibey and 2 of which are mega bops. It’s a great palette cleanser before Cape God and gets in and out in under 22 minutes, so you can’t really go wrong with that one. Cape God is absolutely the most different of all her albums and ditches most of the electronic sound in favour of real instrumentation. I don’t think there’s any way to predict how you’ll react to it until you hear it, but it is definitely unique in her discography and very, very interesting. In my opinion, the album is more about crafting an immersive atmosphere and a mood than it is about delivering mega bops (though it still has a few), so it probably takes the longest to grow on you out of all her work. But I absolutely adore it because it delivers such a clear aesthetic mood and vision that I find very compelling. It’s the project that all her spotify photos were taken from, and it matches the feel of those photos completely - a crisp morning in late winter/early spring, in a lush and verdant forest with mist and fog swirling around you and the light patter of rain on the treetops above, just outside of the tiny East Coast town you’ve grown up in your whole life and don’t feel like you’ll ever be able to escape. If you’re in the right mood for it, Cape God gives you everything it needs to! And it’s one of those rare albums where the deluxe edition songs are essential listening.
I agree with you so much, people should take time to listen to the next albums. I remember that super sunset was “meh” when I first listen to it, but I keep playing those song in my head for days, I listen to again days later and I really love it. Is a very good album and Cape God is masterpiece even more with the deluxe tracks

I'm reliving these albums through you right now and it's so interesting. The moment Paper Love started playing suddenly I totally felt like the sound was closer to Cape God than I ever thought. And the vibes are reeeally different in CollXtions I and II, which I never realized before. Your description of CollXtion I being "bright" and boppy is so accurate, and this one really does have more of a groove. Before listening to them through these videos I never realized many of these things, especially now how different CollXtion I is from the rest of her discography. Thank you for doing this videos!
I had the same initial reaction as you, some hit and others didn't til much later. Like you said it's so unusual at moments so it's takes a second to adjust to the sound. Now it feels like a classic album I often revisit when I'm in the mood 🖤
Beth you should check out Allie's acoustic performances of Casanova (the one with words written on her face) and Old Habits Die Hard (with sunglasses at the piano). The melodies are much more powerful!
Amazing video as always!! Lifted is my fave on this album too. I don't skip any songs on this album except Old Habits Die Hard and True Love Is Violent. While this one does have a lot of darker themes, like Lifted abt substances or Simon Says abt an abusive relationship, it also has some lighter themes too. I might say Cape God is darker tho. Really excited for you to react to the next two albums!! Super Sunset has what is literally my third favourite song of all time from any artist.
It's so fun watching you react, it also shows Allie's own struggle with the Collxction series, before the release of this album she released several demos that were eventually cut from the album, but they are still released as individual projects, which let the fans decide on what she would include. Additionally, Old Habits Die Hard, funnily enough, has multiple versions and I am pretty sure they are still out there and released either on CZcams or her Spotify as well. Downtown has also a rereleased version during the pandemic. Casanova also has a duet version with Verité which also has a beautiful music video. All The Rage, Too Much To Dream, Alexandra, Misbelieving are part of this Unsolved Collxction.
I love her debut more than this one but this one got some bops too, my personal favorite is Downtown. Her EP UNSOLVED is great too, love the versions from some songs from this album there.
Allie X released an album before this called COLLXTION II ɄNSOLVED which acts as her basically asking her fanbase what type of songs they would vibe to before she release this one. very interesting method of feedback, with songs that didn't/could have made the album (or demo/alt version), (yes it was released first before she dropped this album you reacted to 😅) if you're interested to listen to it she has a playlist of it in her spotify, you might just like some of the songs in there. i know i did. in your own time or however you want 😉👍

Ok so personally I like this album more than Collxtion I, just cuz it's more vibey and I'm usually in that mood and all that. My favorites are Need You, Lifted and OHDH. I'm so happy that u returned to Allie X! I haven't listened to her other albums yet so I'm excited to board her other albums with you! I also wanted to ask again if u could ever react to 333 (the deluxe version is a must) by Tinashe cuz that album is a masterpiece. And Songs For You too! I'm not sure if it's on streaming anymore, but Old Habits Die Hard was released as a standalone single about a year before Collxtion II came out with completely different production, and the chorus goes way harder! I understand WHY she chose to re-produce it in the style of the rest of the album, but the original was so punchy and Prime-like (as you said!) in a way the Collxtion II OHDH fails to capture. I'd be curious to know if you like that version any better!
particularly i don't think her music got that better (my fav still colx I) but i love her discography, it's something unique like you said and it's worthy to discover it
