Actually it does get old. I'm tired of seeing the same 2 teams in the finals every year and every Olympics. In almost 30 years no other country has risen to the occasion. Yawn.

This should not be an Olympic Sport....there is no competition at all outside of two teams, of which the players play together on collegiate teams.
The women get better and better every year. Some of the goals Team USA scored were absolutely beautiful.

As a Canadian, congrats to USA. Canada was arrogant all week. The players and especially the ex-players on the TSN broadcasts were too smug and almost insufferable. Kudos to Meghan Chayka who picked the USA to win based of analytic metrics. The rest of the talking heads deserved a mute button.

I was watching the game and it stings to lose but I have to give credit to USA they won it fare and square it was those 2 bad penalties late in the third that killed it for Canada, but that is hockey. They were legit penalties and the USA scored on both. So congrads to USA this year, but we'll see what happens next year.

I am Canadian and I agree! I did not get a chance to watch. But I read from another Canadian that they were legit penalties. If that's true, they just have to roll with the punches (the punches THEY caused and had no one to blame but themselves). If the US is able to take advantage, they earned the win. Plain and simple!
Think of it this way. Being disciplined enough to not get such penalties is part of the game! It's a skill in-and-of itself!

I went to see the USA women play Canada in ice hockey in 1998. Cammi Granato was to the USA team then what Hillary Knight is now. The 1998 game was played in Chicago and USA won. Both women won Olympic gold medal. May women ice hockey grow. 1998 started it all. The rivalry has been going since. I still love it.

again, Canada fell apart in the final minutes. a defence full of holes, tired legs, and lost concentration. too many older players. USA was on a mission, and won, as I predicted.

Can’t win them all u know Canada outshot US as most times in hockey it was goaltending that was the difference US’s played slightly better! US was due after losing the last two, Olympics is still the main one!

Well, wish I’d watched the game. Some great lessons learned tho. Got up this morning and saw my Canadian neighbor, normally quiet but always affable, getting in his car to go to work. Didn’t even look in my direction even after I said good morning, twice. Must not have heard me. Later I saw the news. Oh geez. Canadians always tell me they like Americans, but……..and I get a lecture on guns, health care, lumber, milk, fishing rights, And treatment of indigenous peoples. A not very self aware lecture, but I endure. But, the one thing you have to understand about a Canadian hockey fan is that hockey between the USA and Canada is war by other means. Serious, uncompromising, no surrender, no prisoners WAR. And losing to those primitives south of the border is a holocaust. I think I can make it better tho. I’ll make him a figurative peace bridge, you know a cake. Half US flag, half Canadian flag………with the score on it.

Complete loss of assignments in the closing minutes. Long shifts, lack of tenacity. The poor coaching, lack of preparation played into the loss. One girl is laughing while sitting on the puck burning up power play time. Get serious or get of the team!

Women's hockey is basically like the Harlem Globetrotters and the Washington Generals. They basically take turns being one or the other there's no other country that plays Hockeyat this level so there isn't really a point to have a tournament when you can just play these two teams in the finals.
Goaltending was suspect for Canada.

I will start this by saying I did not watch this game. As an American, I am excited these ladies won, but as a hockey fan, I can't help but wonder how you get a 5 on 3 with 3 minutes left in the third period of the championship game. Kinda feels like it lessened the victory.

It wants the refs fault. The 5 on 3 was caused by a ridiculous penalty taken by Canada shooting the puck over the glass an automatic delay of game. Canada blew it

Those refs should be jailed for the absolute fraud they committed throughout the entire tournament but all things aside, Poulin had no right to be playing in this tournament. She is way beyond her expiry date and she ate up way to many star player minutes resulting in zero production. then there was Canada's goalie, wow! That was a complete embarrassment. I have no idea how she ended up in the gold metal game after the complete dumpster fire games she had already had this tournament. 3 goals from the blueline glove side were she wasn't screened at all and had complete visibility of all those shots. Looks to me her glove and blocker were to heavy for her as her reaction time was pathetic. That game was a gift to the US
Old farts Poulin with 2P, Jenner with 3P in the championship game. They showed up when it mattered. Nothing from Fillier, Nurse, et al tonight. I think your vitriol is misdirected; there are older and less effective players on the roster than them. Poulin had the second-most points on the team. She's got plenty left in the tank.
I agree about the goalies. Maschmeyer has been the superior goalie to Desbiens imo, but coaches love their tall goalies. Maschmeyer also didn't exactly inspire confidence vs. Sweden.
The D on the first two goals were terrible. First goal, D slides into the corner on a 2-on-2 for some reason, easy toe drag for a grade A chance from the slot. On the second goal, the D had the pass completely sealed off but swung her stick, opening the lane to Knight. Both stoppable shots, true, but shouldn't have been chances at all if not for critical defensive errors.
Kind of a lame effort on the ENG as well. You throw yourself into the net in the World Championship final to keep that out.
