I don't often wonder what history would be like if Queen Min wasn't murdered. Would she been able to get the nobles and peasants to work towards a common goal to the benefit of all in the long term?
Sadly no korea was like china confusion society empress dowager try to some what reform qing like ban footbinding and so on but people mostly han Chinese hater that so same would be in korea why japan manage was because 1 the shogun aka the only person who could challenge reformes give up his powers so emproro was free to do what he wanted korea had to strong of nobility who was able to challenge reforme china had to many conservative voice and the qing themself where minority so what they did was seen as bad anyways so

The art, paintings, architecture, photography and cinematography here, illustrate the historical developments in the Korea and Japan of this era beautifully. I especially liked the delicate paintings of the royal Josun courtesans. Around this time was the parallel rise, representation in art and paintings of the traditional geisha in Japan, who also served the aristocracy and royal courts there.
Although I didn’t like the betrayal & murder of the Empress instigated by the palace soldiers, I’m glad her leadership and service to her country was recognised later 👑

The front of the yellow/orange 50,000 won banknote shows the portrait of Shin Saimdang (1504-1551). She was an artist, writer, calligraphist, and poet of the Joseon Dynasty, and was the mother of the Confucian scholar Yi I, who is portrayed on the 5,000 won banknote.

There is a great series on Netflix about this period of history in Korea. I watched it years ago. I had to use subtitles. It is well worth the watch. You see how much espionage there was to gain control over Korea.

I would like to know more about the Chinese Royals after the monarchy was abolished there. I don't know if it's true but I read one of the last emperors brothers married a Japanese aristocrat and lived there and had two daughters. One of the daughters was stalked, kidnapped and found murdered

My husband is a Korean~ asked him about her and sadly tho.. some koreans don’t like her.. they said she used her position to literally put all of her relatives in power and in the positions in government so nobody will get on her way or in her plans thats why many yangbans are mad at her way back then.

I was an English teacher in Korea from 1997 - 2018. I knew most of this story, although many of the details were indistinct to me. I heard that there (or, was) a living descendant of the royal family... do you have any information about this?
The descendants of the royal family have lived in the states for decades now.
On October 6, 2018, His Imperial Highness King Yi Seok of the Joseon dynasty, named Prince Andrew Lee as his successor. The current Crown Prince is a Korean-American tech entrepreneur who lives in Las Vegas, Nevada. He had no idea he was related to the Korean royal family. He was born and raised in Indianapolis and only learned of his family's royal connection when a family member casually mentioned they were part of the House of Yi, the former Imperial family of Joseon.
Lee told reporters that he plans to use his position to help empower Koreans. He will use a newly launched Imperial Fund to invest in small businesses throughout the country, with an emphasis on tech development and education.
My goodness! This filled in so many gaps for me. I did not know that modernization occurred in Korea and they were annexed by Japan during WW2 only in 1910 which makes sense since I knew they had comfort women from Korea and that must've been from countries they had occupied. I only learned more of the Korean occupation in the Webtoon, Whale Star. I am glad the dynasty was able to hold out even after Empress Myeongseong died. Her modernization must've laid the foundation for the author, Induk Pak/Park In-deok, who was born in 1896 to eventually go to schools for girls and have American support through parts of her journey.
In 1910, the Japan-Korea Annexation Treaty was signed.
But the treaty paper was all in CHINESE！

Queen Myeongseong was not such a competent and brave woman.
In order to explain the end of the Joseon Dynasty, Queen Myeongseong and her father-in-law, Heungseon Daewongun, must come out to complete the puzzle of history.
The peasant army rebellion is also a civil war in which dissatisfaction exploded due to the fault of Queen Myeongseong, whose finances were destroyed.
She was such an amazing woman! And such a horrible way to die. And no justice for her!
