Simone once said when she was asked about her growling, "I would never do that to my voice". 😁 Epica has growls and screams but are made by the rythm guitar player and founder of the band Mark Jansen.
Simone is our real life Ariel and is also like an angel!

Some people can just do it. Some can't. Simone can't. So she'd strain and ruin her beautiful voice.
Ever since I was a kid it just came naturally while I was singing along to Pantera. But I have no good way of describing how to do it.
Been in a few metal bands over the years (in my younger days), and still, no idea, I just do it, and it's like singing clean. It's just a sound I make, like singing anything else.
Melody Cristea, 20, Liliac Band. An Independent family band of rockers; ages 14-23. Melody stunned me with her vocals 3 years ago,17, and she just gets better as she ages. I call her voice sounding like crushed diamonds on velvet. And since I've been a rocker chick since the 60s, it takes a lot for me to be impressed. 😝
some fab women that didnt get mentioned in the original video that you MUST check out are - Cristina Scabbia from 'Lacuna Coil', a true metal queen; Sharon Den Adel from 'Within Temptation'; Lena Scissorhands from 'Infected Rain'; Fabienne Erni from 'Eluveitie', Anna Murphy from 'Cellar Darling', Liv Kristine - a legend in her own right and has been in numerous bands including 'Leaves Eyes' and Theatre of tragedy; Vibeke Stene, the original vocalist with 'Tristania'; Noora Louhimo from 'Battle Beast'; Anneke Van Giersbergen the original vocalist with 'The Gathering' but has a solo career now; Nele Messerschmidt from 'Elvellon', and Angela Gossow, the original vocalist with Arch enemy, and in many ways the one who held open the door for the likes of Tatiana, Lena and Alissa and other women besides....there are loads more that I could mention, but these ladies are all fab vocalists and worth checking out, some of them growl, some dont, and some can growl and sing clean

There are at least hundred types of female metal singers, and it's impossible to categorize and compare them like this. It's all about how well singer fits the music they play. They all doesn't have to scream or growl, if their music doesn't need that. There are probably about 10 female singers in metal bands which I would give 10. For me personally, Tarja is #1 for old Nightwish songs and Floor is #1 for everything else. Tatiana is perfect fit for Jinjer and Alissa for Arch Enemy (both not my style, but I surely can appreciate their talent). And Elize Ryd is much better singer, than most seem to think. With my very limited experience, my top 10 list could look something like this:

3. Simone Simons
3. Tatiana Shmailyuk
3. Alissa White-Gluz
3. Noora Louhimo (Battle Beast)
3. Nitte Valo (Ex Battle Beast)
3. Sharon Den Adel

3. Netta Laurenne (Smackbound, Run For Cover band, Laurenne-Louhimo)
Then there are probably another 10-20 who could be on this list, and a 20+ right behind them. There are a lot of awesome singers, who just play the music that is not my style.
There are 2 types of lists like this..the first one is what we saw in the video and what you list... that is a list of favorites. Which is highly subjective depending on what a person personally likes to hear. These lists are all 100% valid.
The 2nd type of list is based on actual talent. And this type of list is FAR more difficult to make...especially if you don't have some real musical knowledge yourself. But for me, when it comes to making a list based on talent, I don't think I would ever rank them #1, #2, etc... at best I would say ... this person is a top 5 or a top 10... mainly because I'm not an expert.
For instance, Floor is certainly a top 5, as would be.. in my books anyway among those that I know... Simone Simons, Britney Hayes. But I only know a small number of them
Simone Simons does not growl, she is an operatic singer. The selected video does not do her talent justice. You should listen to songs like "Consign to Oblivion", "Design your Universe" or "Kingdom of Heaven (Part 1-3)" from Epica. After that, you may revise your rating for Simone upwards.

@Eric Johnson The reason why I like Floor so much is that she always gives me goosebumps and tears. Personally, I would call her the master of emotion. I also like Simone and Tarja very much.
@Eric Johnson She's a great singer, but i wouldn't call her most well rounded. Her head voice is weak, she has to take so much power off her voice to hit the high notes.

Simone Simons from Epica is a 10 out of 10. She is the siren of Metal and Epica next to Nightwish THE benchmark of Symphonic Metal.

I'm surprised Courtney LePlante from Spiritbox isn't on the list. Sure she is a newcomer, but man, does she have a GREAT voice, and an absolutely brutal growl!

4. Mayu, Nemophila This little Japanese girl has some rare grit to her voice and nice scream! I was introduced to the band 2,5 years back when they were doing some Iron Maiden. Told her to work on the english and sky is the limit! She did!
5. Alyssa White-Gluz. Heard some of their latest stuff where she got the chance to show of her cleans. Good power too!
6. Asami, Lovebites. Fantastic metal-band, and the little girl at 1,50 sound much bigger than her size. With no experience from metal, but mostly R'n'B she was a wild card, but has managed to impress a lot of vocal coaches with her power!
7. Noora Louhimo. From the little i've heard: a true powerhouse!

Tarja Turunen and Alissa White made a song together, "demons in you" Alissa's growls and Tarja's high notes match perfectly even though they are different voices. maybe you could listen to this song. They sang it together in a recital.
Not all female metal singers growl but are just out of this world vocalist. Especially in the symphonic metal world but still so do sometimes
Floor always belongs in 1st place. No surprise, because she plays in a completely different league. In this respect, it is unfair.

Absolutely! Nobody is even close to Floor at #1 but it's hard to choose after that. Tatiana, Brittany, Lena Scissorhands, Elize Ryd, Alissa White Gluz, Angela Gossow, Melissa Bonny, Charlotte Wessels, Carla Harvey, Anneke Von Geirsbergen are all amazing.
You still haven't heard Melody Cristea of Liliac.

Hi, SImone SImons from Epica (incredible band) does indeed have a beautiful voice, but she doesn't growl, however Epica has guitarist Mark Jansen who sings the harsh vocal parts, check out this song from Epica, you will see what I mean :)

Floor is the best singer on the planet for me, besides this, Floor writes cool songs.

Elize Ryd is a great singer and wonderful person . She helped Nightwish in a gig in the US when Anette Olzon went sick , Elize got two hours to get into the songs .... Metalhearts !
Symphonic metal just isn't my jam, I like things with more edge or grit to them. That being said they are fantastic singers but if I have to choose between Nightwish or Otep...well it's gonna be Otep 99 out of 100 times.
The best female singer with a natural grawl is melody of liliac she is feeling amazing that would be number 1 for sure the other I heard on here use a distortion box to give them that grawl melody has a natural grawl just facts dont believe give them a listen there a family band an she played with the drummer from Dio an black sabbah ...
Melody Cristea of Liliac has natural grit and rasp in her vocals and she can do some growling and opera. However, Melody's fry screams are far and away better than any of the vocalists on this list.
Growling is meh. Certainly not the standard I use to judge my female metal singers. Tatiana from Jinjer is the exception.
You really should check out the metal female singers in Lovebites and the song Holy War, Nemophila / Revive, Unlucky Morpheus / Black Pentagram, Hanabie / We love sweets

As a total Nightwish fan, especially Floor I still think you should listen to Alissa White-Gluz performing Handshake with Hell where she proves that she has a super clean voice too as well as growl possibly better than Tatiana.
Floor is amazing live. She can sing the phonebook and I would buy tickets to see it.

Given the list and your ratings, with an understanding of when the video came out; I suggest checking out Melissa Bonny (even given a runner up mention from the original) She's done a lot since then. My three absolute favourite female vocalists are Floor, Simone and Fabienne Erni (Eluveitie). I can't choose between these three wonderful women with amazing voices.

As far as I know, Jinjer is still hunkered down in Kyiv.

No need to apologize for having an honest opinion! You weren't rude or mean, just honest. And that's great.
My own opinion is if they growl, I don't listen. Art is a VERY subjective things. So that's just me, I'll never acquire the taste for it but I'm glad fans can get the type of singing they want if that's what they want.
But if they have strong clean vocals and they can actually sing, then I'll at the very least appreciate their talent. From my view, some of the best female vocalists include Floor, Tarja, and Whitney Houston (obviously not even close to metal). Just from vocal talent and voice quality. Others would include Ann Wilson and Pat Benatar.
For another that will blow your mind check out “Dissension” by Nemophila.

Seriously, there are some women of metal from Japan who could easily be on this: Fuki (Doll$Boxx, Unlucky Morpheus, Light Bringer, solo, etc.), Rami (original frontwoman of Aldious), Kimi (Bridear) , Keiko Terada (Show-Ya, solo), and many more.
I only growl in my sleep, according to my husband. Sorry but I don't like super heavy female growling. Idk why. It's a definite talent and I respect it.

It's a matter of taste. Floor and Simone are in the same league. Simone's voice is so beautiful crystal clear and gives me so many teary eyes, goosebumps and chills down the spine. Floor is the most versatile of all female vocalists.
Melissa Bonny is a contender for no 1

This list is definitely missing some big names, like Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation, Angela Gossow (formerly) of Archenemy, and Lzzy Hale of Halestorm
Lauren hart of Once Human has powerful growls. Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy before Alisa is also amazing. Just depends on if you like clean vocals or growls. I like both.
Tatiana is #1, she is the metal goddess. That segment shows 3 voices of hers, the clean, the brutal growling and the insane belt. Her ability to sing all three and seamlessly switch is insane. She is on her way to become a giant in metal vocalists.
Practically every band I listen to. Never got into Epica, but damn always enjoy them.

Girl where in the world did you got the idea that you need to growl in metal? Best metal bands in the world do not growl, they scream. Iron Maiden, Helloween, Judas Priest, Dream Theater, Sabbath. Yes growling is cool for extreme bands but is not a standard.

Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Col) is missing in the list
The less they growl the more i like them. Best example is Melissa Bonny (really miss her on that list), i really like her but before "Ad Infinitum" she just did way too much growling for my taste, and i was so happy when she started Ad Infinitum and there uses it only very seldom.
I hope Alissa White-Gluz also comes to that point, their last song (Handshake With Hell) was at least a step in the right direction.
I mean, some growling as a special effect here and there is ok, but doing it all the time is just annoying, the same as nobody whistles all the time, even if they can.
Oh, and Simone Simons is at least a 9 for me. Also miss Sharon Den Adel.

Can't really argue with this list. I'm annoyingly picky with female lead singers in any rock band, but when she's good....she has my heart for life.
