  • When you suffer from finicky redness-prone skin, you have to have your wits about you. But the thing is, you learn quickly. Hot curry in a warm restaurant - very challenging. Physical exfoliation with anything (even a flannel) - no thank-you.
    Understanding how the environment and your habits influence your skin is key to taming the flames of rosacea and in today’s video I run through the biggest culprits for derailing your skin success, whilst sharing some of my favourite makeup hacks for minimising the appearance of redness and evening out your complexion (if you so wish!)
    As always, thank you so much for watching and for all your support!

    I love your videos! A lot of dermatologists don't seem to get rosacea - it took a lot of trial and error for me to get all of the info in your video. I wish I'd had a resource like your channel ten years ago.

    Korean toners are wonderful for sensitive skin. Their ingredient deck is all soothing like centella and heartleaf and highly hydrating. These are not like the toners of past.

      @@jennifermyers20 I personally would recommend Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner or Purito Centella Unscented Toner. Both are brilliant and then the serums seem to go a bit further.

    • @HereDiianas
      @HereDiianas Před rokem +6

      They are called toners but don't do the same as toners in the West used to do. Korean "toners" are more a mixed of liquid serum and liquid moisturizer. They are additional step you don't need, can skip if you already have a serum and/or moisturize that do the job and want to save money.

      I love them. They do different things, soothe or offer more hydration etc. I'm very happy with Klair's supple preparation unscented water, isntree's green tea fresh toner, I'm from's mugwort essence and my current crush beauty of joseon's ginseng essence water.
      About to try next soon jung's PH 5.5 Relief Toner and I'm from's rice toner just taking up space in my vanity haha

    Amen! Agree with everything shared. Double cleansing is the enemy for my Rosacea-prone skin. Implementing a cleansing oil into my skincare routine proved devastating to my face. I went from having an occasional, PAINLESS rosy-pink to my cheeks, to being HOT PINK all over my cheeks and nose, and burning so badly it was hard to speak. I’ve found a great cleanser for my (now) extremely reactive, extremely sensitive skin (Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser), and a basic facial moisturizer (Vanicream Sensitive Facial Moisturizer). Sunscreen has been….very difficult. After trying everything from Aveeno ($) to
    ISDIN ($$$), the tinted mineral SPF moisturizer (light blue bottle) from Paula’s Choice has been the one my skin accepts best, however, it’s rather drying, and over the course of the day, I can feel the dryness/tightness on my cheeks. Still, it’s the only one (out of the many I’ve tried) that hasn’t caused a noticeable increase in redness or burning.
    The most disappointing product - aside from the Burt’s Bees cleansing oil - was Aveeno’s Calm and Restore Skin Therapy Balm. NIGHTMARE. I was so hopeful, but the next morning the hot pink had turned maroon. I washed it off, and laid it bed most of the day, depressed. It’s been a few days now. All I’m doing is cleansing with the gentle cleanser, and applying the basic moisturizer. First day adding PC sunscreen, as we get a ton of light in our house, and it’s sunny and hot outside. I really wanted to go without the sunscreen for another two weeks. Alas, appointments and errands prevent me from doing so. I’m even wearing a sun hat in the house.
    Anyone tried using Aquaphor’s advanced Therapy Healing Ointment meant for Baby’s on their irritated, Rosacea skin? I could see that going both ways, and after the miserable experience I had with the occlusive “therapy balm” by Aveeno, I am too scared to try it.

    • @Angela_in_CA
      @Angela_in_CA Před rokem

      I had issues with everything in the Aveeno C+R line. The Vanicream routine is my home base, and what works to calm everything back down, if I've tried other things. I have had great luck with the Elta MD uv Clear, for sunscreen.

    Amazing content! Love your approach to treating skin, Dr Sam. My only question is the following: is it okay if I have a little foundation residue after cleansing with your flawless cleanser (noticed while removing extra mascara with a cotton pad)? I wear minimal makeup (concealer, bronzer, mascara) and do not double cleanse, relying on 1 cleanse only.

    Great video as always. The only thing I would disagree on is not getting facials. If you go to a very experienced and holistic esthetician who treats the skin with very calming anti inflammatory ingredients they can be incredibly beneficial for calming redness and inflammation. My esthetician is amazing for my rosacea, super sensitive skin. She uses botnia which is an organic skincare line that is apothecary style so it can be customized to any kind of skin. I think it really just depends on where you go and what the esthetician specializes in. You can definitely go somewhere where they use very strong actives and then have a redness flare because of it.

    Hi Dr. Sam, Thanks for another excellent video! Can a single cleanse thoroughly remove layers of SPF 50 Mineral sunscreen with minimal make-up? I was under the impression that double-cleansing is the only way to fully remove the mineral SPF. I use the Avene gentle cleanser (fragrance-free).
