Dare I say, I live in the Rogue Valley of Oregon, USA. Nearby Klamath Falls grows so many potatoes, alfalfa, wheat, and other crops. But our growing season is rather short with a long, icy season. Even in the Rogue Valley itself, our agriculture and general socio-economy could use a longer warm season. So could most of the USA. Global warming is an all around win, a mutual benefit win-win situation. But we have to subdue these strange adverse weather events, which are not related to the overall climate. This is discussed intelligently elsewhere.
Imagine 100 years from now: Alaska is the most populous state in the USA and Anchorage is the most populous city in the USA. And Florida, Texas, and California are almost completely barren. that sounds so odd
@Ararune They can host a server in siberia and keep it cool using the natural cold, and the Americans (With many in Alaska), Canadians, Scandinavians, Russians, and Siberians can all play together.

How many British or French military bases are either in the US or so close it's pretty much the same thing? Plus this videos points.
"The Nordic countries" bruh Sweden has literally nothing to gain from it, and let's be honest neither does Finland, only Norway, Iceland and Denmark (Greenland) gain substantially from it.
I've been saying this for a few years already. As a Canadian, I understand that some 70+% of the people live BELOW the 49th parallel. There's gonna be a LOT more climate friendly land when the Earth heats up. Sure, all those lush green forests will die from pine beetles and dry forest fires, but it would have a much warmer future. They also have a ton of resources up north too.
The best region for climate stability in the world is the Great Lakes system between US and CA. It's the largest fresh water system in the world and the largest region of arable land in the world. The US and CA also have sufficient energy to remain independent should it come to that. It's the Europeans and Asians who will have it the worst. Let's hope Russia finds a way to be an economic partner once again.
Also, I have to assume China's grand strategy is to gain control of Russia (directly or indirectly) to exploit the changing geography, as China has no food or energy security. I wouldn't be surprised if China ultimately invades eastern Russian in the future.
@@robbiep742 its defo not, fresh water and power is useless when you have to import all the crops and cows when crops are inefficient enough for 100's of millions and cows take more and more water and more feed, also higher chance for diseases in lake systems with warming.
I couldn't disagree more. Climate change will cause so much havoc on the environment, so much disarray on global economy that the concept of "superpower" will cease to exist. Even if massive swaths of land in Canada and Russia become more usable with warming trends, the rest of the planet will be in such a mess, there will be no economy left to sustain anything that resembles a superpower. Indeed, those areas of Siberia will prosper, but the disastrous consequences of global warming will overshadow any economic gain.
Yeah, if climate change occurs on the scale where all of these areas melt and thaw out, then that means most of the coastal world would already basically be underwater. The sheer global crisis this would cause would basically tank the global economy.

One significant hole in this theory: the climate types that far north can be entirely novel. This mostly has to do with the solar radiation of these latitudes. At these high latitudes, the absolute temperature range will increase to be similar to the current temperate zones, but then it becomes a matter of timing. Since the latitude is higher than current temperate zones, the sun is weaker, meaning the energy received at such high latitudes will have different timing characteristics to those farther south. It's the reason why despite Britain and southeast Australia having the same climate type under the Köppen-Geiger classification scheme, the climate of Victoria is far hotter in absolute highest temperatures: it lies at a lower latitude. There can be some completely unaccounted for climate types if this metric is used as the defining characteristic of a climate.
The strong and warm gulf stream current is why Britain has the mild climate it has at its high latitude. That same latitude in the interior of Canada and Russia is brutally cold most of the year.
@@Gamedraco its also entirely possible that the amoc is weakened severely by the melting ice in greenland, causing europe to be plunged into canada like temperatures.

Supposing that will happen (which it won't any time soon btw), they'd simply help fund the Sahara Sea project, which would obviously require lots of water, serving as a buffer for rising sea levels. @@anp1609 You're right, many will perish... but not for the reasons you have in mind. It won't be climate change (which is natural, not humand-induced, has occurred since the dawn of time) because today, we have AC, greenhouses etc. It'll be war. And it's probably going to start soon in Taiwan.
If only permafrost and a short growing season were the only limitations to farming in Alaska. Global tilting might be more of an issue, since the prospects of the winter snowpack disappearing north of the 65th parallel are dismal, which means freezes in May and even June will continue.
Alaska will become the main source of work and food in the USA. The rest of the country will be in turmoil as refugees from New York, Boston, Miami, etc all go inland. But that means that basically all of Alaska will exist as suppor for a chaotic mainland. Which might end on Alaska declaring independence because they would see the rest of USA as a food and resources leech.
All? No. Most? Yeah. Most of us will totally die. Russia will benefit in terms of climate, but also they'll have the biggest migration crisis ever to exist on this planet, with literally all the rest of the planet moving north to cooler climates.

"The Nordic countries" bruh Sweden has literally nothing to gain from it, and let's be honest neither does Finland, only Norway, Iceland and Denmark (Greenland) gain substantially from it.
@@j.k.1198 yeah, they are pretty much ice-free round the year and climate change will have negligible to none benefits.
Alaska (US) also will gain
@@robbiep742 its defo not, fresh water and power is useless when you have to import all the crops and cows when crops are inefficient enough for 100's of millions and cows take more and more water and more feed, also higher chance for diseases in lake systems with warming.
its a bunch of islands which makes it very inefficient, also canada doesnt have the best land upnorth and doesnt have much alrdy populated land there
I couldn't disagree more.

The ice is already melting in some areas in Siberia and there is people/companies that already betting on the lands that will be uncover.

11:10 But you have to understand that the when the Arctic will be Ice free, Beijing and Rotterdam will be flooded with water.
yeah those ports he focused on are doomed
Supposing that will happen (which it won't any time soon btw), they'd simply help fund the Sahara Sea project, which would obviously require lots of water, serving as a buffer for rising sea levels. Dunno why people keep thinking humans are entirely helpless and wouldn't try to do anything at all in reaction to such scenarios, while at the same time claiming humans will be responsible for apocalyptic disasters.
Ehh the arctic sea ice isn’t the problem. It’s greenlands land ice and other arctic land ice that’s gonna screw them
