I loved Mother Winslow. My favorite moment was her sharing her story with Laura about the struggles of getting a library card because of skin color and convincing Laura to fight for change.
Even Steve loved Estelle and she was the closest he had to a grandmother figure considering his whole family except Uncle Ernie, Uncle Cecil, Aunt Oona and Myrtle, couldn't stand him. They only loved him when he was Stefan. Even then, it hurt Steve because he found out they were shallow people.
I know that right Grandmother Winslow ! Now, parents supposed to be strict, and grandparents supposed to be fun... Moral of the story is never mess with grandma and her grandbabies.
I loved that he was weighing his options: I'm a fully trained police officer in Chicago, if my mother wants to throw down....BACK AWAY SLOWLY AND LET HER DO WHAT SHE WANTS
You know the best part? As someone else commented here, Richie and 3J were not her real, biological grandkids yet she treated them as such. She was more like a grandaunt than a grandma, but the behaviour was the same: she loved them and treated them well. That's all that counts. Some people don't have loving grandparents, yet she was the surrogate grandma that they needed. For some, grandaunts take care of them and was are the TRUE GRANDPARENTS while their biological grandparents are just blood relatives, nothing else. Ditto with aunts and uncles, who're often better parents than parents. There's something more special than being a mom or dad and being a grandma/grandpa: being an aunt/uncle and being a grandaunt/granduncle. It shows true, unconditional love because they're not from your direct bloodline yet you still love and care for them. Mother Winslow was an example of that and she was fantastic. RIP to this woman and let's all give more credit to aunts/uncles and grandaunts/granduncles.
I still miss this incredibly beautiful, vibrant lady. My grandmother was a big fan of hers. May Miss Rosetta continue to rest in beautiful, serene peace,🙏🌹♥️💝💎.
Gee Morgan Those Kids are my grand babies and I’m gonna spend time with them and we gonna have fun. If you have a problem with that we gonna throw down right now!!!
Steve: Umm, Big Guy. You sure you wanna anger your mom like that! Carl: Mind your own business, Steve! Steve: I will not! Estelle is like a grandmother to me and I will not let anyone walk all over her like that!
The Winslows adopted 3J so he is her grandson by adoption and Richie while he is the son of Harriet’s sister and not related to Grandma he did live with her for all of his life so she is hai grandma as much as she is Eddie and Laura’s
Grandparents are suppose to be that way. I lost my last Gandma a few years ago. Miss talking to her, miss hanging out with her. When I was little use to always love going to her house and having fun. My parents never said anything about me being spoiled by her. Now I have a one year old daughter and my mom and dad are going to spoil her and have so much fun with her and I will never stop them from doing that
I much preferred being around my grandmothers compared to my own mother. They treated me better and knew that me & my mother didn't get along well at times. I can imagine Estelle enjoyed not only spoiling her own grandkids plus Steve. If she lived long enough she would have made a wonderful great-grandmother to Steve & Laura's kids.
No disrespect to the late beautiful Rosetta LeNoire May she R.I.P but the Family Matters episode “Citizens Court why was she wearing a thong??? Lol I took a close up picture when I saw this episode today. Click link below. m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=484929019083695&id=100026998037804&set=p.484929019083695&source=47
Grandparents are suppose to be fun, easy going, and not strict within reason. They should still respect the parents wishes. Otherwise they go home and give the parents a hard time. Most of my grandparents died before I was born or was only one year old. The last one I had was a religious zealot, strict, thought junk food was evil, thought everyone younger than her was a child and cruel yet in that gentle delicate judgmental old lady kind of way. Didn’t scream but condemned you with a smile and soft words. I wish my grandmother was 50% more like Estelle. But Estelle should have at least gave them a semi-healthy dinner, then junk food and a reasonable amount of time to stay up after their bed times. When I have kids I expect and want my in-laws to spoil my kids within reason. I want them to eat junk-food, play video games for hours etc. But I also want them to teach them limits and for them to help them with chores. Without some balance of fun and responsibility than all you got is problems. Like I would say 70% fun and 30% responsibilities and rules for grandparents. Parents need to do 70% responsibilities/rules and 30% fun.
I've seen it over a hundred times in my 41 years of living, spoiling children only teaches them a sense of entitlement and a lack of respect for the rules, mother winslow was wrong
Hard disagree with almost everyone here. It's one thing when visiting the grandparents and they spoil you. Its another thing when that grandparent is living under their children's roof. If the grandparent always overrides the parents' will for their children, the children will always try to supersede the parent. My stance hasn't changed on this since the 30 years I last saw this episode.
Technically, neither of the boys are her grandsons. 3J was only a foster child, brought in by Harriet and Carl. Richie's mother (who wasn't seen in the later versions of the show for no reason explained) was Harriet's sister, and not Carl's sister. Since Mother Winslow is Carl's mother and not Harriet's mother, Richie is technically not her grandson.
So what? She clearly adopted them as her grandsons and that’s all that matters. We really didn’t need this history lesson, especially because it’s just a TV show. NONE of them are actually related. 😂
There was some conflict between JoMarie Payton, Reginald VelJohnson and Jaleel White during the show's run. Both felt like he had too much power with the producers and the show had become the Steve Urkel show. They felt like it lost the original charm of the show which was always about family
I loved Mother Winslow. My favorite moment was her sharing her story with Laura about the struggles of getting a library card because of skin color and convincing Laura to fight for change.
I still love that storyline too. ♥️
Wow funny you mentioned that I was watching that episode this morning!!!
You can tell Mother Winslow was getting older there.
Estelle always killed me😆 she was the funniest lady with the greatest sass and comebacks
jggjgfhfdo
She's definitely not the person that someone should start drama with because if they did, they will pay the price for it.
Like when Carl says “May I remind you 2 that I bring home darn close to 50% of this family’s bacon?” She says “And you eat darn close 90%”
Yesssss love her ❤❤❤
Estelle makes me wish I had grandparents. I also love how respectful Harriet always was towards her mother in law.
Estelle LOVED Harriet. THAT'S WHY Harriet respected her.
@@ladyfire44you forgot O.G.D his cousin from Detroit, he was coo wit Steve
Everyone has grandparents unless they passed away. So you must have meant I wish I had still had grandparents
RIP Mother Estelle Winslow. Sweet, sassy and doesn't sugar coat her words
Absolutely Amen To That, Don't Mess With Mother Winslow
But she does sugar coat her meals.
I know that right Grandmother Winslow ! Now, parents supposed to be strict, and grandparents supposed to be fun... Moral of the story is never mess with grandma and her grandbabies.
“Parents have to say no, but grandparents get to say yes!”

@@PrimesWidom Mother Winslow also said that in an episode when Carl was hard on Eddie and wouldn't lend him something like $200 for rent.

Estelle is right its moments like this where you have to let your kids cherish every moment with your grandparents id do anything to see them again
This was my grandmother, I loved it when she would set my mother straight and save me from getting a whooping.
I loved that he was weighing his options: I'm a fully trained police officer in Chicago, if my mother wants to throw down....BACK AWAY SLOWLY AND LET HER DO WHAT SHE WANTS
Funny how Carl of all people can talk about someone eating too much junk food. Lmao 😂
He probably didn't want Richie and 3J going down the same physical path that he did.

Richie was Rachel's kid and Rachel and Harriet were sisters weren't they?
Oh nvm ur right, Grandma was Carl's mother not Harriets

Estelle’s one of my favorite characters on the show. She’s a sweet, bad ass Grandma.

Face it, Carl. Your mother is determined to be as lenient with the boys as possible.

Uh Oh, Carl, Grandma's Gonna Knock You Out Lol
I miss older black woman being on tv shows they are so sweet and bring so much joy to show WTF Hollywood bring back black grandmas come on Tyler Perry

Mother Winslow was the real deal, love ❤️ her
My grandmother was the same way and I miss her so much minus her jokes lol 😭😭
Now that i think about it, when Joe Marie was on the proud family, sugar momma was a bit like Ms. Estelle, i wonder if she was an inspiration
yes Estelle was the suga Mama on family matters and Harriette was the Trudy on family matters
Laura was Penny.

parents have to say no, but grandparents get to say yes. Carl gets a chance to spoil Laura/Steves kids and Gretta/Eddie Kids
