Hi Jeffie bear. You are so right. I had a guy want $1400 (and counting) in Quartzsite, AZ for an oil leak. I got it done at my mechanic in Mississippi for $500 cash. I know a bit about vehicles so that is helpful but often it is about tools and crawling around and at 67 I can't do that anymore. There are a lot of thieves and idiots out there when it comes to mechanics. Finding somebody who is honest and kind is like finding gold.
Women getting taken advantage by shops is, I think, more common than we'd like to think. Both my wife and daughter have been quoted extremely high prices for work that doesn't need to be done or for really minor jobs. My wifes reply now is "Ill have my husband call you and discuss the work". My daughter when she was still single I always told her to get a second opinion or let me handle it.
Yes, you are a good father, sadly my dad would tell me the part I needed and the shop would quote me ridiculously high price, so my dad would then call or see him and be quoted a much better price. Once he did this for an alternator and a fan belt for me, sent me with the money to pick it up and when I was there they kept asking me if I was sure that was what I needed and tried to charge me more, so I had to actually bring my dad in with me - he couldn’t believe it was that bad. Whenever used that shop ever again.😢
This is what i was hoping would happen. That Emi would seek a 2nd opinion on the "suggested" repairs. That whole circumstance seemed over the top to me so having an expert honest pair of eyes to check the suggested repairs out was perfect. Thank you for being the honest human you are. This is the exact reason why I, a single mom, wanted to open my own shop. From working on cars, trucks, and farm equipment all my life. I have seen so many woman get screw or the guys saying things needed to be replaced when they didn't. I have had to take my vehicle in the shop for recalls and while in there they try to get other things done, but I know what needs to be done on my own vehicle. Always best to get a second or third opinion from different shops or people. So nice of you helping EMI out.

Loren, we are on the road traveling. We thought we'd pop in. You can tell Emily is very grateful. It's good she got a second opinion!!! Wow, 2,000.?!? In the 90's, a young woman I knew got an oil change at one of those convenient quick change oil shops. Well, her vehicle ran fine before the oil change, it wouldn't start after the oil change. The guys that worked there offered to fix her problem if she got it towed to their friends' shop. She called me and was upset because it worked fine and now it didn't start at all. After a full day of trouble shooting, using diagnostics... I found they intentionally had hit her kill engine button. The reset button is located in the trunk of the vehicle. That switch only kills your engine if you're in an accident over 35 mph. But in this case, they hammered it pretty good to get the switch to kill the engine. Needless to say, she wrote to the corporate office of this place and everything was rectified. It's ashame. You're a great guy, my friend. Good health to you and your wife. Take Care! ✌️
Real honest mechanics are far and few out there, I have one in the town I live in and he'll tell you if it needs to be done or if it don't need to be done and he'll work with you on a price if it sounds weird, it's good that cat lady and chrome have such a good community of friends this is what we all need in this lifestyle
