    So, a company that has never put anything in orbit nor has a functioning launch vehicle has been awarded a contract to design, build, and land a vehicle on the moon. Sounds like something NASA would do.

      This is disingenuous. Many companies without launch vehicles or experience in space have and continue to build orbital and exploratory infrastructure.
      Grumman had never built a launch vehicle or had launched anything into space, and they designed, built, and tested the Lunar Module for the Apollo program.
      NASA has to spread the money around, and long ago it was NASA who determined that space is too complex for any one company. Contracts are therefore distributed to many different companies.
      SpaceX is just ONE company. They can't do it all no matter what they would have you think.

    While I don't yet have any faith in Blue Origin (and still not all too confident in Starship either... seriously, it needs several additional launches to refuel it just to get out of low Earth Orbit!), we also have to remember that Grumman was lampooned as well while it was struggling, delayed, and over-budget on the original Lunar Module, until finally it worked.
    I have no doubt this lander will be delayed as well, more likely to 2030, but... from a design standpoint, I'm far more optimistic with this than SpaceX's desperate attempt to appear sleek and cool.

      Blue Origin supplied two Be-4 engines to Vulcan last year. And Vulcan is of course ULA's next primary launch vehicle. They had a nominal static fire a few weeks ago. However, the Centaur second stage needs an upgrade after the explosion of a Centaur a few months ago revealed the forward end of the rocket needed thicker shielding. First launch delayed indefinitely.

    • @kokomo9764
      @kokomo9764 Před 10 měsíci +5

      My money is on SpaceX. People said Falcon 9 was a POS and could never become reusable or land back on Earth. So, how many times has a Falcon 9 booster landed back on Earth and been reused? Over 200 times in case you missed that. A single booster has done it 15 times and is certified to launch 5 more times. You SpaceX haters are pathetic. The next Starship launch will show marked performance improvements, and each launch will get better and better until it is human rated. Blue Origin will still be building prototypes that can't fly.

    • @mervstash3692
      @mervstash3692 Před 10 měsíci +2

      @gregorythoman9764 you've lost your money already mate. Consider the contract between SpaceX and NASA null & void the moment Starship blew up the launch pad. There is zero chance it will be ready in time for 2025 missions to the moon. They might not even have permission to attempt their 2nd test launch by then. Then if they ever do make it to space, it's not like they will attempt a moon mission 1st try add on several more years testing all the various stages for the full mission. Then they have to construct all these refilling ships that don't exist yet.
      Falcon does some great stuff, but it's not like SpaceX came up with smaller rockets. We've been doing that for 60 years. No one said it was a POS. Maybe they said the reusable gimmick was pointless considering there is fk all commercial demand.
      And no, they haven't been reused 200 times. There hasn't even been 200 missions yet.
      I don't hate SpaceX. I'm envious of the people that get to work on this stuff. It's just a shame they have a f''n moron in charge. It's his influence that has made Starship the lemon that it is today. Saying "oh well the next version will be able to do all these fantastical things" is not proof of anything. Do you know how many times Elon says dumb sh1t like that & it always turns out to be BS? Literally every time. I could give you a hundred examples off the top of my head.
