- This may hands down be the best egg salad recipe of all time and is jam-packed with onion, celery, garlic, pickles, and mayonnaise on toasted bread. You will be blown away at just how good this is.
Egg salad is a simple bound salad consisting of diced hard-boiled eggs with mayonnaise, seasonings, and vegetables. It is incredibly simple to make and a great recipe to use if you have a lot of leftover hard-boiled eggs.
Egg Salad has been around since the late 19th century and was adapted early on with the use of mayonnaise, transitioning from butter. They became popular throughout the United States because it was easy to make with always in-season ingredients, and it was high in protein and low in carbohydrates.
There is nothing overly fancy about the egg salad but can be customized to your liking and your budget.

My mom always chopped the eggs with a fork and added chopped stuffed green olives. The pimento and olives bring it to another level. Yum!
Wonderful!
I often use chopped olives instead of pickles or relish in salad sandwich recipes.
OMG. I have been struggling with making hard boiled eggs my entire life and I just tried your method (bring to boil, add eggs, cook for 6 minutes, cover/sit for 6 minutes and ice water for 5, and roll the eggs) AND I’m so thrilled to say that not one egg was mangled in the process of peeling them!!! I LOVE YOU!! Thank you so much for this tip!! 👏👏
You don’t need to explain his method in his video. You’re dumb as hell.
Coming abroad from Russia I was shocked to see that most people don't know how to boil and cool fast eggs after cooking to make peeling easier...you don't need ice....just drain out hot water and put pot with eggs under runing tab water....or just soak in cold tab water - it would work as well...now there r egg cooker, which make them cook on steam and they have timer too...since eggs are cooked on steam, the moment it switches off eggs start cooling ...it works well also ( no need of stove or lots of water)
If you don't have ice the cool down with cold water in a jar and shake the eggs in the jar when cooled then put back in cold water The shell will come off super easy
Hhahah😂
Works like a dream.
I chop my eggs with a pastry blender. It works great!
me too!
I love green olives with pimentoes added to my egg salad. Anybody else?
Sounds good!
I've been hard boiling eggs for 60 years and this crack and roll method of peeling them has changed my life!! Thank you.
It works well. I used to do hundreds of eggs at a time this way.
Hi Billy! I used to use the egg slicer the same way you do. Then I discovered using a pastry cutter! It’s great and a lot faster. If it’s only a two or three eggs I put them in a small low sided bowl. If more than that, I use a high sided pie dish. Going to try your recipe tomorrow!! Ciao!
I 66 years old, retired chef. Thought I knew eggs salad but man you taught me tons!
I use the egg slicer to chop hard boiled eggs too, but also find that a pastry cutter works great too.
I’ve always added chopped black olives but never tried capers. I also like the 2 kinds of mustard. Clever.
Guess what's for dinner at my house tonight on this hot summer day. Over 100 degrees in Memphis TN and this is perfect! Thank you so much and please pass along my gratitude to your wife for bringing the egg slicer. I cant function without mine either.
I use the potato masher that my mom used while I was growing up. I hope I never have to replace it. I'm in my 50s... it's the perfect egg mashing tool.
Is it an Ekco? I have an Ekco peeler and potato masher that are probably 60 years old still going strong
@@anderander5662 It doesn't have and brand markings on it, so I'm guessing not. Only thing I know is that it's old and made in Japan. 🙂
I literally bought an egg slicer today because of this video. I made this recipe last week, it was a big hit, but cutting those damn eggs... Egg slicer is the way to go.
Red Onion, celery, mustard, I never realized these were Staples to an egg salad but also I just added these to tuna salad... I also like the things you added the dill, capers, pickles etc I'll have to try that! Thanks!
Life changing way to slice eggs.... take a cookie cooling tray with small metal grates. Place it over a bowl, place an egg on the grate and push it through the grates with the palm of your hand. I'm telling you it's LIFE CHANGING! All the same size and cuts them so fast!
Seriously, buy an egg steamer. One dozen eggs cooked to perfection and easily peeled (no need to fuss with an ice bath).. It also makes omelets, poached eggs, soft cooked. Your recipe with the Dill pickle and Capers sounds delicious! Can't wait to try it.
There’s a long list of amazing CZcams chefs, but I always gotta check chef parisi. No matter what he just always elevates my cooking standard each time 😊
This is how I cook perfect HB eggs. Put eggs in pan and cover with water. Bring to boil and immediately cover, turn off heat and set timer for 14 minutes. When timer goes off, rinse in cold water, then add ice and let sit until they are cold. Try it. 👍🏼
Capers in egg salad, YUM
I made your egg salad recipe after watching your video and loved it! I didn't have any capers but I did have everything else and fortunately, I usually have fresh dill growing so that really made this egg salad delish! I will for sure follow your recipe on this one in the future too.
I have made so many of your recipes and love them all, I am a retired housewife who loves to cook and even though I know a lot about cooking I'm always looking to learn more.
Keep putting out your great recipes and tips I look forward to them each week.
Looks delicious, Chef Billy. Thanks for sharing your egg cooking, peeling & dicing method.
Since learning your way of making hard boiled eggs it’s the only way I make them now and they turn out perfect every single time! There’s never a green ring around the yolks and they peel like a dream. I haven’t made your egg salad recipe yet but I am going to, it looks delicious❤❤
In 1997 I was working at a place called the Old Consulate Inn in Port Townsend, WA. Our supervisor & the owner of the joint was rash & unreasonable in many ways but one summer day she told me & my colleague to boil & peel 6 dozen eggs for egg salad tea sandwiches. We were gobsmacked. However, somehow, I realized that we could boil the eggs, plunge them in a cold bath, crack & roll the shells...and they'd just slip off.
What a relief!! The rest of the salad was a breeze.
p.s. I lost my egg slicer like yours, so I use my potato masher.
All about getting the egg right! Thanks for sharing that story.
Since I began using 1 Tbsp of jalapeños in place of capers, and a bit more celery for the crunch, I'm making egg salad every week. I'll try it with the yellow mustard too. Thank you very much.
I have one of these. When my grandma past away in 2010 I keep all her cooking utensils. Some of them I could not use because of age and some had rust. I took those and made wind chimes out of them. This looks amazing, will definitely be giving it a try. Thanks for sharing.
That's so sweet. Making wind chimes out of your grandma's cooking utensils.
My mom (RIP) used to make me egg salad sammies. I have forgotten all about these until your video. Thank you!
Omg! This is by far the best egg salad recipe I have ever tasted! This should be your go-to recipe for egg salad. The inclusion of capers makes this recipe over the top. I would dare say this is the ultimate egg salad recipe. This will be my standard from now on. I can’t rave enough about this recipe!!!
Your recipe is over the top in my humble opinion. I was raised with "hard boiled eggs sandwiches" 2 maximum, smashed to bite size with a dinner fork on a dinner plate, add mayo salt and pepper give a mix, serve on Swedish Rye bread, and I'm in hog heaven... Perfecto, The End 👌🎉
Yep, me too❤
@@Gnomes22 if it ain't broke don't fix it.. 😊
I’ve always added dill pickles but the capers sound like a new winner for me. I like your need for your slicer:) I use the smaller gauge net bags when I buy lemons or limes. Just put your egg in the net and squeeze it through. Works great for me.
I do the same thing using a net bag. And it’s an easy clean up.
Chef, I love the addition of dill and capers And chopped up green stuffed olives.
I grate mine on the big hole side of the box grater, works pretty good. The bag idea is brilliant 👍 My favourite way to eat egg salad is on what we call hard tack, hmm maybe you know it by rye crisp.
Learned the hard boiling trick some years ago. Then, came the ah ha of cutting the eggs for the egg salad. I just put the peeled eggs in a bowl and use poultry scissors to cut them to what ever size I like. No mess. And make the fixings in another bowl, and add a bit at a time to the eggs until the proportions feel right. Thanks Chef for your guide into better cooking. (Next time you won't have to call your wife)
OMG! The 6-6 minute egg works!!! I just made it now, it is delicious!
Thank you chef!
Your videos are getting so good these days. Your personality is really beginning to show. Keep up the good work!

Oo
Thanx, Chef Billy, for sharing your egg salad recipe, and the tutorial for cooking hard boiled eggs. Fabulous!
Love how Chef reinforces the basics every episode, great recipe! I hope you brought some home for the wife?
I find dill relish (not sweet relish) in the stores and use it every where I want to add chopped dill pickle.
I have to use an egg slicer, too. But I only slice once. I use a big fork when mixing which chops down the pieces of egg more, but I like the bigger chunks that remain.
I just love this recipe! Thank you!
I love egg salad and like to add a little fresh lemon juice (just a little bit) to brighten the flavor.
Pickle juice works too.
Looks delicious, your receipe is great.
Looks great!
Bro. This was by far the best thing ever peeling eggs, we aren’t worthy lol thank you
A potato masher or fork works well on eggs. The slicer is nice too. Your recipe looks great!
Just used your method of 6/6/5 minutes for making hard boiled eggs … perfect colored yoke and easy release from the shell … also purchased an egg slicer … brilliant … thank you very much chef for these very helpful techniques … ❤
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Simply delicious. ❤
OBSESSED ❤ will make soon🥚
I love the capers and diced pickle idea!
I use a potato masher to cut the eggs into squares...works like a charm
Made this just now and am amazed. Changed my life forever! The problem is, I now have to wait for lunch and I don’t want to. Super yummy!
Awesome recipe thanks will try
Love this. 😊
Thank you chef! This was delicious and the hard boiled egg method worked great. While peeling I didn't even swear! :)
Great recipe!
I have an egg slicer that I love too, but I learned a cool trick during my culinary externship if you're making egg salad in bulk which works quickly and effectively. Put a cooling rack over a bowl and push the eggs through the grates. It works like a charm. I'm not a big egg salad person, but this looks delicious and I will definitely give it a try!
Made this for lunch today. Delicious!
Oh my gosh...I have one of those egg slicers and I have never used it for this...and I make egg salad quite a bit! You are a life saver!
what kind of egg slicer? Thanks. Have a great day.
looks excellent. i'll try it this weekend. thanks for the recipe.
Yummmm looks amazing !!
Really enjoyed this video I will definitely be making this xx
That was really good!
Delicious! I love egg salad on a croissant with thinly sliced cucumber. Thanks for the hard boiling tip.
Looks delicious!
Watched this on Facebook yesterday- thanks to you I made the egg salad today! And appreciate the reminder on how to hard boil an egg! HA! Tasted wonderful! 👏👏👏
Hi chief,
The timing on the jumbo eggs was great! I needed them for a appetizer plate I made earlier. 😎
Can't wait to try your recipe! It looks amazing. I use my box grater to grate the eggs.
Perfect!!
Im going to try this. I like egg salad but I havent had it in years because its usually pretty sad looking. But this looks much better. I started steaming my eggs a few months ago and it makes a big difference. Plus you use a lot less water and that little bit of water boils super fast. I just use a bamboo steamer over a pot. Add maybe an inch of water. very simple.
So many awesome tips here, and the egg salad looks delicious. Thank you!
I saw that suggestion on another channel and it absolutely works. Perfect peel-able hard eggs.
Thank you. Chopped dill pickle in deviled eggs and egg salad is so good. Will try your egg cooking method next time. I steamed for 12 minutes and only put in cold water as I didn't have ice. That methold peeled 100% easier than all boiling where the shell was hard to remove and took egg white off with it. I might need to get an egg slicer. I didn't know you could slice the yolk with the white and be done.
Off to check out your spaghetti sauce recipe.
I'm in the mood for something simple and this is perfect . No fuss . Thanks for your video
Great, i have been using my steamer in my rice cooker. I have racks that hold 14 eggs. Capers really adds so much. Then peeling just like this video. Great plan
Fresh garlic in egg salad 😮
I use broccoli stalk and leek as well. A dash or two of dry mustard to give it some zip.
Nice
Suggestions for your shopping list: 1. A second egg slicer. 2. Flowers for your wife (who I'm guessing had better things to do).
😂 this!! I would be so annoyed at my husband if he acted like I didn’t have better things to do, because I do.
I could not have been More grateful for posting this video I did this egg salad for my family even my wife’s grandmother lick her fingers I couldn’t thank you enough I subscribe to your channel thank you for everything you do
I’m an egg salad lover. All great ingredients but lots of fresh dill and plenty of celery is the pièce de résistance. Btw, I run my hard boiled eggs through a fine net/mesh bag acquired at the market. I think I bought pearl onions and the bag was a bonus.
Also love tuna salad.
It looks great chef. Thanks🙏❤️🥚🥒
Used to make it a lot. Using a potato masher is a lot faster as the egg cutting device and works very good.
Sounds very good....ill be making mine like that next time!
Dude! This is fantastic!!
Love boiling eggs now! Before your method I would always waste at least one egg stuck to the shells. Now it's all good, thanks chef!
I like the way you chop the eggs. When I make egg salad I use a fork and literally smash the eggs up. I don’t like big pieces of egg. I’ll have to find an egg slicer like yours. I will definitely make your recipe. It looks delicious. Thanks for the recipe.
Great technique for the shells, wanted to add that I saw a chef using a mesh/metal grid cooling rack to punch the eggs through and it’s like seconds to get the egg diced this way.
Omg thanks for the pealing tip!❤
I have the exact same egg slicer and I love it too!
I’ll do this with tuna salad also! Nice video.
I really like my egg salad. And what seems to be key to it is simple onion powder. Try it, you'll like it.
It would be a crime to put this BEAUTY on anything except SOURDOUGH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Making tonight. Can't wait to dig into those capers. Took 62 years to try them, now I can't get enough. Going to try a few olives. I don't like them, but the wife does. Great video my friend!
Amazing
Love egg salad. Chef BILLY.
This is my absolute "go-to" recipe!. I use a pastry cutter to dice my eggs for egg salad.
Love my slicer!
Egg salad tastes great on rye bread toast. I've been making this same egg salad (minus the capers, and maybe too much mayo. And no dill. Will try that.) my whole life. I even use the egg slicer! Classics are best.
You are marvelous love the egg salad iowa
I’ve got one of those egg slicers.. love mine
Thanks❣️
Great job. Love eggs
My Aunt always diced up black olives in her egg salad
That sounds good.
Looks fantastic. Cant really dig the old school 70’s/80’s pool side egg salad with big chunks of everything we hated as a kid and love now tho!👍🏻🤘🏼
I like bigger egg chunks. It gives it a hefty chew. No need for that wire thingy if you go big. Thanks for the recipe!
Subscribed! ❤️
Omgsh, gotta try boiling my eggs like that, thank you!!!!
It works
