  • In this video Kirby Allison and Jonathan Sigmon, from Alan Flusser, discuss high-low dressing and how to make sure that your outfit accessories coordinate properly.
High-low dressing is the deliberate mixing of smart with casual. Rather than smart-casual dressing, which is about clothes that fit into both categories. Jonathan and Kirby are both wearing what we would consider to be Alternative Blazers and Jonathan does a wonderful job at demonstrating the difference between smart-casual dressing and high-low dressing.

I'm sure it's a lovely jacket but I can't get Miami Vice out of my head with that look. would never do it.

Light wash jeans are too much difference of formality even with a casual blazer, for me.
Dark jean would work better here i think.

An Sung fair comment and I would agree that your comment will apply to a more traditional ensemble; however I kinda like the style as it is on this occasion.

Good stuff Kirby, when I go to these company mandated "corporate casual" events I still want to outdress.

I can see myself going to Alan for these more casual slack jacket and blazer options. Once you have enough of the standard stuff, it’s hard to find interesting designs that aren’t just a variance on fabric or lapel sizes/styles. I love that they have a bit of focus on that aside from the more standard commissions. Thanks as always for sharing, sir!

I think that the casual stuff might be where Alan really excels the most! Alan's style has evolved in recent years to be more on the casual side and this is an area of menswear fought with landmines which Alan navigates with precision and ease!

Kirby, I admire your understated ensemble here. The alternative green coat ensemble has a 'LOOK AT ME' feel, which does not come together in a cohesive and pleasing manner to the eye. In my lowly opinion, that is dressing for attention rather than dressing well for oneself. I know which I option I prefer.

I have a 70/30 wool/mohair navy sport coat with silver buttons and it’s so versatile. Warm and breathable and so easy to dress up or down.

Kirby, your coats lapel is extremely large. The notch is low. Curious if your coat is an older or a vintage piece? It was great to hear about the famous green coat. He wears it often, and flys from NY with it. The fabric is gorgeous. I would love an electric blue version with nickel buttons. One day.

I really wish they would take their trunk show out west. I think these alternative jackets would be a big hit with the tech crowd. People are always looking for pieces they can dress up and down.

    • @rogerhuston8287
      @rogerhuston8287 Před 4 lety +1

I know people poo poo the tech crowd, I just think people don't understand how to make jeans look good. I have very good Italian jackets, I have made to measure shirts and Cordovan leather shoes. To dress up, I'll substitute the jeans for some nice slacks.
While few people wear suits in Tech (US, they do wear more overseas) people still want to look good. Most just don't know how because when they think fine clothing they think suits.
I would love to see more videos on how to dress well in a casual environment. I don't think a bespoke suit company are people's first choice for casual wear.

So let me ask this: if you have a traditional blue blazer with brass buttons, do you still have to ‘match metals’? In other words, does your watch and belt buckle also have to be yellow in color to match the brass buttons?

Maybe just me, but the olive sportcoat looks a bit too short and skimpy.to my eye. I also don't think a crew neck sweater goes well with a the more formal look of the jacket, without a shirt underneath to boost the formality of the "look." But I think the jeans look great with the sportcoat. I like the overall subtle look of the outfit.

So true. It almost looks like a limp yellow t-shirt. Either way it's not an ideal look. A collared shirt would have vastly improved the look of this hideous green coat.
