- čas přidán 25. 08. 2023
- After two months the work finally continues on the 8x8 tracked amphibious vehicle named ARGO. This time I'm getting the engine & gearbox installed, drive chains cut, gaskets made, wheel shafts with new bearings and seals installed, CVT driven clutch disassembled and reassembled. And a worn down sprocket gets a renewal with a little bit of turning in the lathe and TIG welding. Next time - restoring chain tensioners and maybe some CNC milling action (fingers crossed!).

Nice work mate!
That was a long time to wait for this video. You can only blame yourself for that because you spoiled us when you did a video every week. 😅
LEAVE A THUMBS UP HERE WHEN YOU AGREE!
Let us see how many likes we get!
Of course, don't forget to hit thumbs up for this awesome video!
Cheers! We should drink beer together more, it might trigger more projects and videos for the future.😀
@@DonnDIY Yeah, it's a great time. More than we could build 😀
Wow where have you been I thought something happened to you I’m going to be 72 in October and I so much enjoy your content I’ve been watching this whole build BUT WHY DIDN’T you at least clean the engine and paint looks like your a perfectionist on everything you build I can’t wait tell your out in the creeks with thank you for letting us come in your shop
when the paint job is done
Work takes time.
Why would you paint an aluminium engine?
@@deckname5794stop it corroding, that’s why they paint motorcycle engines
My dear 72 y/o friend (I’m 68 tomorrow), may I try to suggest, in the most respectful of ways, that when you write your it’s as if you are talking (oh, I’m meant you’re) about your (meaning: your property of any sort, it’s possessive) you must write Y-O-U-R. However, if you are meaning to use you are in a contraction, you must write: Y-O-U-‘-R-E to mean you are: you’re. I hope this clarifies one of the difficult things about writing in English, British or American. You have a blessed day, sir.
The mam has a life just like yours and also a young family which comes first
My dad taught me this. Man made it, man can fix it..... I live by this...
Love the tooth swap on the sprocket. Amazing what can be done with the right equipment.
Donn, the belt on the CVT should be fairly loose in that application. When at idle the belt needs to fully disengage so the secondary clutch stops spinning. If there is drag and the secondary clutch is trying to spin at idle it will load the shift mechanism therefore making it hard to shift. It’s critical the secondary clutch is not loaded at idle. Looking good! 👍🏻
Thanks for the encouragement, I'll give it a go "as is" and see what happens.👍🙏
I have also never seen a belt install without a fight or a tool
It is always a pleasure to see you working and repare everything ! I said to my partner : "my godness this man can fix everything, nothing can resit" 😂😂
😀
That old Stanko lathe are still good 😁👍
Я думал что один так со звёздочками так делаю, а нет. Нас оказалось двое😂. Работа супер, молодец.
I think everyone is waiting for Lathe cleanup episode, especially OCD types like me :)
You owe it to that old girl.
Great to see your back been a long time no see 😢😢
Never tried using the end of lumber for punching holes but I will now. Learn something everyday.
Thanks to the Internet!🤘
Excellent work mate!, thank you very much for sharing it, I send you a hug from southern Argentina.
Hug from Estonia!🤗
finaly back to the build
I think the second Shim was the try to make it faster. The belt is able to reach a smaller diameter with it. The gear ratio changes.
Now you habe a better torque but a slower max speed.
Sounds logical. In the mud I'd rather have torque. So all good.👍
When you were installing the newly cut chain I thought you had a measure twice cut once moment, but I quickly realized that I was wrong.
When I saw the machined sprocket on Instagram I thought you were creating a new tensioner pulley but then remembered another post you had of the actual tensioner pieces your making or getting made. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great Job Donn, looking good around there, thanks for sharing with us. Stay safe and keep up the good videos. Fred.
When I saw the sprocket repair at first being pressed on, I thought: "No! If I know my guy Donn, he will autogenious tig weld it. Both sides!" I should place bets. That was a beautiful repair though!
You’re still my hero! I hope you and your family are well. Stay young! Hello from New Mexico, USA
Thanks man! I'm glad you like the content!
top job. Good to see you well and still working hard.
Dude. You are awesome. 👍
Glad to see you well ❤️🩹 and back
welcome back, and thanks for posting👍
Nice work. Love what you did with the sprocket @ 16.00 minutes 👌
6:44 not just rubber layer, they're actually infused with rubber (or rather the cork is poured in with the raw rubber and galvanized in sheets). So those gaskets would leak eventually, so it's actually a very good idea to use silicone with non-rubber cork gaskets, especially since these days the quality of cork sheets leaves to be desired. It's brittle as heck, where as old style cork sheet is pretty well bonded. I don't even know what i'll do when i run out of my old roll, cause it's not easy to find.
I'm a big fan of your videos and I really appreciate your work.
Thank you very much!
Another great video Donn. Just wish that snow machine engines had a longer life to them
Hi , super work. Many thanks from UK.
The gear turned out good
Awesome. Your build is coming along great.
Maybe add grease lines to the hard to get to areas. Basically moving the zerk to an easier place to do the greasing.
Look at that, so cool
Great video, throughly enjoyed it.
Excellent work 👍👍👍. Thank you for sharing. Be safe 🇨🇦
thank you .
Thank you ,another great video, i lern a lot and thank you for sharing, always a pleasure watch your project👍👍👍👍
7:52 you could use a large Allen key, like 10mm or any right angle bar that long enough in a drill, hold drill centered to shaft and it can rotate the shaft for you while adding grease.
It's looking good, thanks Donn!
👍💪✌
Thanks for the video. Awesome work 👍
nice job Donn
@19:00 Honestly, I think you should invest in a Kiln. Any hardness in those tooth tips is gone after being normalized by welding. ;)
Fascinating
Finally after so long.. 😂😂
Yeah, sorry about that!😬😀
Great video
Excellent.
Hope everything is good at home .. another Great Video .like the way you repaired the sprocket ..
I always look forward to your videos. Looking great!
Good stuff
Love your videos and your work
Thank you very much!
I want to see you redo a lot of other projects you’ve done too but when you have the chance and have the time and also, I have a question what took so long to get episode seven or revamp episode seven of the safe by tracked machine there you’re on CZcams
Nice looking chain drive cog gear you got made for your amphibious vehicle
Nicely done...
Keep up the good work thank you
Excellent !
Wow been awhile. Great to see
Hello Donn good job well done
I use qn old cuttingboard when doing gaskets. Sometimes the lumber is to soft and when you are close to an edge it rips rhe gasket..
missed you
Awesome as always 👍
Thanks for watching!
как всегда супер !👍👍👍
MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼
Ah ben j attendais avec impatience 👍👍super boulot 👍👍
Looking forward to seeing more ❤😊
3 words I hate...
To Be Continued 😂😂😂
Another fantastic video, thanks for the share
To me those three words mean there’s more which is always a good think.
It’s all about the perspective.
#glasshalffull. 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah, sorry mate, I'm doing my best time wise 😀
Yep, these supply chain issues and getting parts delivered is a real pain. 🤷♂
Dude, some parts are still "in the mail" somewhere. 🤪
Welcome back 😊
Looking good!! Hope your absence was for good things and all is well…
It was.👍
Long time no see. Happy to know that you continue to work on this project. Hoping the suite will not tase so long. 😉
No worries, I personally want this project to be completed the most. So it has to happen. 🤘
buen trabajo
Donn your a metal artist
wow sangat bagus hasil kerjanya❤❤❤
Клёво, новая серия. Лайк!

Show 👍

🤘🤠
See masin saab parem kui uus!
Loodetavasti sinna lähedale. Mega ront oli ikka. Oksjonilt ostsin eelnevalt vaatamata. Kui oleks päris elus näinud, ega siis vist poleks ostnud ka. Aga noh, nüüd saab loodetavasti vähemalt korda.👍
👍
i use a small wooden cutting board 10x10 inches for gaskets
Hakkab looma! 😋
Vaikselt-vaikselt.👍
👍👍👍
Tho i admit, i've no clue how long it would last, you could at least try, since there's no harm in doing it. Using PET (from bottles) make sleeves that slip over the joint where the cork gaskets are, and with a heatgun, shrink them down to the hub over the cork. Again, no clue how long it would last, but PET is pretty strong and should at least protect the cork for a while.
Love the level of detail in your work. Is this machine for fun only?
I'll try and utilize it in different ways - pulling ski trail groomer, plowing snow, driving in swamp etc. And explore the wilderness.👍
Hey,my boys alive !!! Was wondering if he had gotten conscripted or something..
Not yet, hopefully never.
Bro when you are heating the steel you are expanding it Inside the alloy heat the alloy to expand the alloy to pop it out if you want to fit steel in a tight spot put it in the freezer it will shrink
Waheyyy !!!
1M subs soon...

judging by the way the "factory" driven star was processed, no funds were allocated for heat treatment at the "factory" ...
why are you take so much time to upload videos keep up the good work
Due to personal life.
Why are you still using a diff plus brakes for steering instead of fitting just two CVTs off of an ATV and do differential steering by forcing a differential ratio with them? Would also eliminate the need for a gearbox, as you could alter the ratio and the ratio between them with two levers.
Just needs an RPM governor, to keep the engine out of the red line and in the optimal power range all the time. :)

I didn't know you can tig weld with no filler.
Можно, если свариваемое тело позволяет заполнить место сварки! С тонким металлом так не прокатит.
Great video Donn! Do you have a link for that gasket material? Thx!
I bought it from a local hardware store in Estonia.👍
😊👍💯❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Boa tarde tudo bem amigo
👍
Guess I need to explain my comment to some people I said CLEAN ENGINE AND PAINT WHAT NEEDS PAINTED ON THE ENGINE LIKE SOME COMPONENTS THAT WERE PAINTED FROM THE FACTORY
Missed you! Where have you been hiding?
At home 😀 Sorry for the wait!
11:16 is there a crack through the piece at the 1 on the left?
5:55 wait, you need to Loctite it in, or it will rotate around with the grease port, wouldn't it?
Maybe. Note the groove. It will grease anywhere the hole is so long as the grease doesn't become too stiff and dry. If Donn keeps up his maintenance (which I'm sure he will) there will be no issues.
@@TheMetalButcher but doesn't that mean the bearing housing spins instead of the bearing itself? 🤔
